I have bought a yearly policy from Bernies Mexican Insurance. They are based out of Rosarito, but have an office in San Ysidro as well. They insure the driver and not the car, so it is nice for people who travel down in different cars. Its not that expensive and usually pays off after 7-8 trips down. I believe you are covered as far as San Quintin (SP?) and if you are going down further you just call down before you go, pay a few dollars and they extend coverage depending on how far down you plan to travel. I have been real happy with the service and rates and have been using them for about 7 years, however I've never had to file a claim with them.
If you want their number, pm me and I'll look it up.

Jr is right its the driver not the vehicle. You have to pay extra for the vehicle. I pay about $70 a year for liability and such. Bought mine in Rocky Point and I don't see any stipulation about where in Mexico I'm covered; perhaps because its considered mainland, not Baja.

Jeff,
I buy an annual policy from Instant Mexico. Seems to me if ya go down four times you're breaking even dollawise, plus you don't have to stop and buy it each time. On a year such as this if you go to La Paz you'll definitely save money.
And I have made a claim. My 4Runner was stolen in 2001 in Ensenada. Instant Mexico treated me great and gave me more than my car was worth.

Yo Jeffro-
I always buy my Mex. Ins. from Instant Mexico Auto Insurance. They've had my policy on file for years.
I just call their toll free number before I my trip, give them my policy number and then verify all my info. After that, they verify my credit card number and fax a complete copy of my policy to my office. No stopping on the way to Baja! I've done it this way for years and love it! Never had a problem and super-convenient.

Jeff,
Was that full coverage? If I hadn't of had full coverage when the 4Runner was taken I'd of been screwed. And it only covers the vehicle, not it's contents. You'll need a homeowners poilicy to cover your vehicles contents.
In my case the Toyota was worth about $5500 and the contents about $6500!

Yes it was $130.00 liability or $151.00 full coverage.
