I am hearings some rumblings from some of the teams that I have talked to about a possible change in the starting time for this year's race. I am hearing they are thinking about starting the race later so that the vehicles will finish after sunrise in La Paz. Are there any confirmations of this or is this just speculation??

It's so that the majority of the race will be run in the dark so teams can't cheat with their air support. http://www.race-dezert.com/vb3/attachments/old/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Spoke with Sal just the other day and he told me that the bikes would go at safe light and that the Trucks and cars would follow at around 9:30 or 10am.

Maybe it has somthing to do with safety??? I know there have been complaints about catching bikes and having a bigger time gap to let them get further away.

I doubt they would catch the pros such as team Honda. Maybe the quads and slower teams, but it would be scary to have a TT bearing down on you at night.

it safe to have them come up on you at night. you will see the lights coming. during the day in the dust it,s alot harder to see behind you.

For sure it is gnarly for the quads to be caught by any car. I can tell you from catching some of them that it is also gnarly being in that position and being worried for the people you are catching.

The bikes aren't as bad as they can at least be in one track line, the quad guys have big sack as they are never in a "quad" line, always on one edge or another!

We are leaving in a couple of hours for our second 'to the tip" trip. Meeting up with Scott and Jessee for a little pre fun.

SCORE MEDIA CONTACT: Dominic Clark

November 4, 2004

The race will start on Thursday, Nov. 18, in front of the Riviera del Pacifico Convention Center with motorcycles and ATVs getting the green flag at approximately 6:30 a.m., followed by the car and truck classes at approximately 9:30 a.m. Vehicles will start one every 30 seconds in the elapsed-time race.

It looks like it was all speculation! I don't think Dominic would have put this out today unless it was a done deal. I guess we now know what to plan for now http://www.race-dezert.com/vb3/attachments/old/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

IMPORTANT START LINE CHANGE!!!
November 05, 2004
The 2004 Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 will NOT start in front of the Riviera Convention Center due to too much water in wash. THE START LINE WILL NOW BE AT THE END OF THE PAVEMENT ON AVENUE RUIZ. The motorcycles will start at 6:30am and the 4-wheel vehicles will start at approx. 9:30am.

Sorry for all the cut and paste posting but I thought this was relevant.
