View Full Version : Baldwins - The ultimate way to pre-run

The Baldwins just took delivery of their brand new 160 foot Delta yacht and helicopter and are having it follow them down the coast as they pre-run. Then after they finish for the day, they are having the helicopter fly in and pick them up so they can spend the night on the boat. The next morning it will fly them back out to continue pre-running. After they are done, the boat is gonna head around the point and meet them in La Paz.
Talk about doing it in style! http://www.race-dezert.com/vb3/attachments/old/images/graemlins/cool.gif Bling-Bling!!

Where do they dock that thing?
There are not many slips that accomodate such a vessel in Newport Beach.

It was actually down here in San Diego at Driscoll's Boat Yard loading up with supplies before it left a couple of days ago. I don't know where they plan on keeping it long term.
The thing is beautiful and cost mucho $$$$. The helicopter alone could have fielded a TT team for a couple of years.

Talk about the ultimate chase vehicle!
Wonder how many "friends" want to help them chase now. I met Jason at the 96 1K...maybe I'll hit him up. http://www.race-dezert.com/vb3/attachments/old/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Scoobs, you are making some fairly inflammatory insinuations. Care to elaborate on the details?
Perhaps before you do, consider that these folks may have had assets and investments in various places. Some completely seperate from the former home building endeavors. Hell, maybe they took what was left in the mid 90's and invested it all in Ebay or even better, in Southern California Real Estate.
Me thinks that you have been talking to people whom have extremely limited business and financial experience (if at all). Couple that up with some degree of envy to conjure up just another requisite boogey man.

I am sorry for the comment.I just remember when they got caught it sounded so fishy. But people like the Balwdins have connections so its easy to make money again.

highjack the threat again but here is some food for thoughts:
The next time someone blames a wealthy person of beeing wealthy and you hear things like "Well, its an old wealthy family and he just got the money from his parents" , "If I only had 1 million dollars, I would open xyz biz and it would do well" etc... basicaly when someone becomes an "expert" do the following (I have done this with a former roommate):
Give your friend $10.00 to either blow away or to invest and double within 7 days. No matter what you don't see the money again, they have full control over it and can do whatever with it, but if they find a way to increase it, they will have to tell you how they did it. You tell them that if they can double it you and them will go into biz then where you will invest more money into their moneymaking ideas.
Also the deal is if they can't double the $10.00 in 7 days they shall never talk around you about money making ideas.
Lesson learned will be that if you have a hard time ballancing your checkbook now that you are broke, you wont be able to manage large amounts of money neither. > Whoever is wealthy today is so because they don't waste money. They invest money the right way, you and I are not capable of otherwise we would also be wealthy by now.
Next time you rag on the ultra wealthy in our sport remember that they worked much harder for it then your and your family did.

Contrary to popular belief, the method of wealth accrual is not simply a function of having "connections" or "being in the right place at the right time".
Here's a thought, in this sport, there are people who have a little money and piss it all away on desert racing. There are also people in this sport who have a lot of money and piss a little away on desert racing. And then there are a bunch of people who have no money and piss what little they have away watching other people piss their money away while they sit there with their penis in their hand dreaming about being capitalized enough to piss away money on desert racing. Kinda interesting huh?

Baldwins gang prerunnning in San Felipe.
A good friend got married in SF this last weekend (nov 6th), small party by the beach next to Las Misiones, around 100 with an open bar and nice party athmosphere, 8 +/- Baldwins crew members go hit the bar, waiter complaints to the groom, my buddy says "whats wrong with you ? Let them drink what they want, chill, its my party and im having a blast". Baldwins say thanks, offer a $1000 dlls gift to the groom, groom refuses to take money, Baldwins say "You dont want the money ? Lets see what your wife thinks......" Wife takes gift with pleasure, obviously.......
I just love Baja....
