The exhaust valves are stainless but I don't know if that will help since the intake valves are still Ti. Does the 450r have all Ti valves?

It shouldnt have the problems as severe since it has a milder cam and lower rev limiter...

But as with all high performance 4 strokes, there will be maint. required and valve jobs...

Its not an XR...

Anyone know, how much oil they hold? Still going to have to keep the oil and air filter clean.

Unfortunately I haven't ridden the X model in probably about a year and it's way different now than when I rode it. From the other guys at work that have been on the development team, they say it's great. Everybody was expecting a detuned 450R, but the 450X is a completely different bike with way different characteristics. Most of the reviews that I've read so far have been really positive, so hopefully sales are good!

Now...that damn Suzuki 450.....I'm dying to try it. We're supposed to get ours anyday, but it hasn't shown up. I've put in so many laps on quads at Racetown the last 7 days that I'm ready for 2 wheels....I'm sick of 4-wheels!!!

I want to get one of these bikes, does anybody have a report on them? reliability, rideability, mods?

I tested both the Suzuki and Kawasaki back to back. Both are awsome but I prefer the Kawi. I will stay with KTM until the Kawi comes in a 5 speed.

matt - the honda is a great all around bike, is it the best trail bike out there, it depends on who you ask. i love my ktm but am really looking at the new husky(comes plated). check out www.thumpertalk.com if you haven't already. if you decide to go orange my brother has a hook up on some out of state 450xc's.

Check out the honda forum on thumpertalk.com
from what i've read, the valve issue is still causing headaches... that's the reason i went with a blue bike, couldn't afford an orange one!! :)

I just talked this over with the owner of Semi Honda, what they have found is changing the oil, using very sticky air filter oil and not over reving the motor will help. Changing the valves will decrease the problems but also decrease performance due the the after market valves being heavier. Yamaha has the ti valve locked for a while. I am going the stay with my Yamahas for my little bikes, but I love my XR 650.

450's are having very few problems compared to the 250's.

From all the stuff I've seen with the valves, all I can say is keep your filter clean and use good filter oil (the old honda oil is awesome). If you're going to use no-toil (the same as the new honda filter oil) make sure it's the only oil used on that filter, and that it is oiled fresh the day before you ride and no earlier. The chemicals used to make the oil permeate into the filter evaporate over time and leave less oil to catch the fine dust particles.

I've had a slew of (I think I'm on number 9 now!) 450R's and never had a single valve problem.

And the 450X is a great bike. Sure some of the KTM's are better at certain things, but the 450X is a pretty darn good all around bike. I've even got a license plate on mine!!

Oh....that's right, I'm biased though!

baja designs sells a sano Oil tank that can increase oil capacity. The trick on the crf450r was to use the valves from the Honda 450 quad, increased reliability.

I've never had valve trouble on my Honda either! Oh yea, I don't have valves.
