We are racing Terribles and it will be our first race in BITD. Have any of you guys raced this race on a bike? We are riding a XR650 and have a few concerns. What division, what class, will we get caught by Trophy Trucks?

We are thinking of riding the Sportsman Open class?

How often do you gys do rider changes, we were advised to change every 40 miles or so.

I would race in the Sportmans class, I recently raced in the SCORE 250, and it was three of us, we changer riders every 80 or so miles, and yes the TT's will catch up to you. And that will all depend on how much after the last motorcycle leaves, at the 250 TT left 2 hours after the last M/Cand the caught up to me at RM 140, but that was because I fell and broke my wrist, so they wouldn't of caught up to me until RM 220-230. Good luck. Oh yeah and the guy before also had a fall so that slowed us down alot

Who is racing with you?

Blue Man
March 25th, 2005, 17:43
Eric Behrse and Robbie Thompson.

In BITD the first car leaves 3 1/2 hours after the first bike leaves and the race is 230 or so miles for bikes. I was told the TT will not catch us unless we have a mechanical or crash. I need some conformation from someone that has raced the bitd stuff in the sportsman class.

We are also looking to put a SCORE Class 22 (250s) together in 2006. Or is that class 21? There are a few HBMC guys intereseted in SCORE for next year. You wasa play Kritter.

Your info is True on the TT's, I have raced with BITD for years and you shouldnt have a problem...Kritter giving the big boys a fit would be great!!!!

We race it on a quad. In the expert class and did not get caught. If you dont have any problems you should be able to do it. From what I understand we are starting in town this year instead of Johnnie. We tried to switch riders every other pit which is about 80 miles depending on what our chase vehicle is doing. Good luck and hope to see ya out there. Look for the Q64 Honda 450r.

Thanks for the info, also do all of you guys do the pre fun run? We are going to go out to just ride the area before the race.

March 26th, 2005, 06:15
You should do the prefun run. That would increase your chances of finishing without being caught by a truck or car. I also wouldn't change riders so often. Maybe go 100 miles or so. This gives a guy a chance to get in the groove and make some good time.

Andy I wouldnt announce you are going to prerun...I dont think BITD allows it and thats why they have their own pre fun run.

aside from the pro class...dont the quads finish faster times then a lot of bikes? I would think the BITD layouts would be advantageous to quads for the flat sweeping turns, fire roads, etc...

BITD is much safer then score in regards to bikes because Casey has his kids racing which makes him be that much safer then promotor xyz.

If you guys have a drop out...let me know im always game to race moto sickles.

Blue Man
March 26th, 2005, 13:37
It is actually imposible to prerun the course, there are locked gates and private property that you can not get on. We are thinking of going up and leagally riding in the area. I have been told it is much more silty and the rocks are larger? We will try to do the pre fun run.

Blue Man
March 26th, 2005, 13:38
BITD does suit the quads well. I was told by Dianne that the start is Pro bikes then quads, Expert bikes then quads, so on.

March 26th, 2005, 15:21
Silty is an understatment! The silt is knee deep and the rocks hide well! I have never seen silt like nevada...gotta be the heat.

March 26th, 2005, 19:17
its pro bike then pro quads then all the res of the bike classes the the expert and am quads. what sux is a lot of expert quads are faster then a lot of the bike classes. but we are quads and we are just an after thought. lol! though at parker there was almost as many quads as there was bikes.

Kritter
March 27th, 2005, 09:25
I would think the quads have a major advantage as there is nothing technical where a MC would smoke a quad...and if you do catch them the road is easily wide enough to pass...

How fast do most of the quads go? I know most of the open bikes are geared for 105-114.

desertratt
March 27th, 2005, 09:54
you'd think the roads are wide enough to pass a bike. at this race theres not a lot of places to pass easily. i have had to force my way by a couple times. as for top speeds, its like the bikes. it depends on which one it is and and whos riding it. average is 80-90mph.

All things considered it was a good day. We pitted for N14 (Grider/Blais) at #3 and were backups at #6 and #8. N1 had a good day and we couldn't catch them. Had to settle for 2nd, but both Andy and Chris said they were still suffering from "rally-racing".

In case any of you were out and about today I was in the F-250 with the Motosat dish mounted on top of the camper shell. As I was pulling out of Pit #8 someone waved at me and shouted something about "Bufeo" and "Baja" and "Race desert" but I didn't recognize you. Sorry, I should have stopped but the traffic jamb along that stretch at Johnny was monumental and we were heading toward the Finish at TT, and I just waved back.

Bufeo, I wish I was able to meet you this weekend, racing is hard work, I hung out with Blais last night and wished Andy was around. We had a good day until pit 4, I got us to 2nd in class and a crash put us into 5th (last), we could only salvage a 4th. This was our first BITD race and we learned alot in a hurry. We are now a two man team and we want a win bad. This was the most satisfaction I have gotten from racing ever, 100mph makes you feel all weird inside, I got off the bike at pit 4 with a heart rate of about 150, it was cool. Baja here we come in 2006.

Congratulations for finishing, and you're right. Racing IS hard work.

Sorry we didn't get a chance to connect also. I didn't hang around long. We were back here in Prescott by 6:30 pm. I want to leave for Baja tomorrow a.m. and have several things to do beforehand. Andy, Anne, and daughter Marley had to rush back for some commitment in Santa Ynez.

I enjoyed listening to Chris, Andy, Johnny, Mike, and Chuck talking after the race. Chuch had a pretty bad crash, I hear. Broken collarbone or something like that.

Did you or your teammate get flagged to a stop at any of the highway crossings? Chris did, and we saw another moto get stopped, but they stopped highway traffic for the trucks and cars!!! I don't understand that.

Team Guilty/Alba Racing finished 3rd after it was all said and done. We came over the finish in 2nd place but after adjusted time we got 3rd by 1 1/2 minutes . We had a good day. No wrecks!!!!! Bike ran great, suspension was awesome, it was harder than XXXX to keep straight. We think the tires had too much air in them and the alignment was a bit toed out. We were in the lead from a bit after pit 1 to pit 6. I got passed after pit 6 in a rocky wash section.
Tony Barazza, nice to finally meet you!!! Sorry I couldnt hang around long at pit 5......

VTR, congrats on your good finish.

Those pix are at Pit #3, where we were set up. In fact, as I was loading the last piece of trash into my truck I called out to someone setting up that I "bequeathed the location" to them :)

Was that you guys??? If so, what a kick. I regret that I didn't take a little more time to see who was following us. I was in such a hurry to get to Pit #6 that I forgot my manners.

We were in the red Ford F250 with the tire rack on it. There were some people to our left that were packing up. We were out of that pit fast and headed to pit 4 so I didnt see a whole lot there. We were parked near where the course veered to the left at the end of the pit if the vehicles came towards you. We were the 1st expert quad through there.

What a kick! Those pix could have been taken by us. We were the "...some people" packing up. See that orange marker in the photo. I know the placement--if you get my drift.

Damn, sorry we were so close, yet so far. Glad you had a successful race.

Marc-

TOTALLY cool finally getting to meet you face to face (although, your face was inside a helmet) LOL!

I thought it was awesome that the first time we meet, you were waiting for Eric to come into the pit so you could go to "work." Congrats to you guys for a great podium finish!

Look forward to seeing you in the future. Maybe we'll get to hang out and visit a little longer next time. LOL!

Take care buddy!

Eric-

I totally forgot to mention that I was trying to get your attention and give you a thumbs-up as you came into Pit 5. I'm a pretty small target (especially in a bright red t-shirt LOL!)

I liked how you were hooping and hollering as you came through that rough section at the entrance to the pit. You looked great and sounded like you were enjoying being first quad on the road.

Congrats again buddy!

PS - Cool I got to meet Chantal while you were "working."

Put together a video of the race. My server is strange and some people it works for and others it doesnt.... No rhyme or reason  ......... If it doesnt stream off the server try right clicking the link and "save target as" on your hard drive somewhere. Its a large file (31mb). So if your on dialup  ........ Hope it works. If someone else can host it for a while or let me know whats up with my server???? The host says its working ok.......

Thanks, VTR, for posting that photo, but no, we had already vacated the premises by that time.

On edit: Sorry I was so slow in replying. Just got back from Baja last night and heading back down in a wk.
