don't know but I'll take last place anyday if to get paid like they do just for qualifying...

He's the "All-American Kid" to many and it'd be prety hard to believe that he'd get dropped from a sponsor and couldn't find another.

I'm with Woody, he gets payed more than I can ever imagine for finishing last, i'll take his position anyday.

The classic is when they quote him in D2G saying "I only race nascar to race Baja" lol

He has some kinks to work out but he will get it together.

By the way, RG made a great move doing his own deal. It's a building year right now. Things should be on track by race 20.

Can't wait till Dakar!

that's a long way to wait to get things together.
he's at least gotten in the show by the skin of his teeth the last few weeks. not sure what put him out this week. hope the sponsors are willing to wait for it all to come together. i wish them the best.

Rob has full sponsorship for this year no matter what happens. He also has a single full sponsorship for next year with one of his many current deals. I will not say who but he does. Rubs will have it figured out. John Menard will make sure of that.

I've never seen so many pit stops! I got to go to my first Nascar race at PIR on saturday and I was listening to Robbby for a while. He was pissed at first, but then he just decided to use the race for tuning and adjusting.
Each re-start he would get three or four cars ahead and then as the speed built up they would pass him back. I think his motor is lacking...
I'm not a nascar fan, but in person it actually was pretty cool!!

Yeah, in person at the track it's actually pretty damn fun. Actually if you do the camping for a couple days at PIR and get the entire experience it's a lot of fun...

Yes.. basically it turned into a test session. He needs to do that more.

Lack of power might have something to do with the lack of an RCR backed powerplant.

I also agree about his choice to move on his own. (BALLSY like always)

I am not that informed about what he is using for power, but after this year I would not be surprised t see him as a contender.

RCR motors are dog doo...At the last dyno in Atlanta they where over 20hp less than the other big teams.

One good thing about RG's motor problems is he has a lot of cars now.(he hasn't wadded any but one up). The car he backed into the wall at Texas was sent to Hopkins and a new rear clip was put on in one day. In the Garage Robby's cars are considered the best workmanship. All the other teams comment how nice they are. The new Tire and Spoiler package has put a little chink in his plan and the Menard motors have the Crank issues fixed. Menard is working hard on putting the power band in the right spot now.

RG's Current car count:
2=Super Speedway(Daytona Talladega)
2=Road course (Glen Infinion)
4=short track (less than 1 mile)
6=Intermediate (cookie cutter)

14 cars, pretty damn nice

Like I said I do not know all that much about his cars/motor

but I do know that Robby has had a good long relationship with menards.

They provided the power for his indy racing days, and I have also seen a menardie decal on his trophy truck awhile back.

anyways best of luck to him

Interesting...

Since, I thought BAJA was his FIRST love?

Besides.. Mr. Gordon could finance...
WHATEVER...HOWEVER... WHENEVER... He feels like it!!!

I am sure that ....
He is his OWN man... Sponsorship helps.. - Don't get me wrong..

But.. his name synonomous with BAJA? -Along with acting up.. a little bit, -Now and then? HEE HEE:D

Just curious.. I am sure that YOU will correct me if I am wrong?

Yes Robby could race Baja whenever he wanted. But he also now loves Dakar, Indy (he is not running this year) and NASCAR. Baja is a challenge to Robby. But NASCAR is a WAY BIGGER CHALLENGE to him. Robby likes to run with the big boys. If Robby just ran Score and nothing else he would be unstoppable. No Challenge...He would be bored.

Score can't compete with the Bucks of NASCAR. Especially since he has his own team. Score has been dwindled down to a Recreational sport. You can't make serious money. Robby is a race car driver. That is how he supports himself. NASCAR is the highest paid deal right now.

RG's relationship with Menard goes back to Indy. I went to the 500 w/ my Dad when I was 17, and still have the Gordon Racing hat. Menard races to win, and after Indy/ CART/ IRL/ Champ Car has gone into the toilet, he wants to be back into the big time. If he didn't see something in RG, he wouldn't be involved. Give it time.

sorry, but nice wasn't fast enough today. when the radio asked what they where doing to pick the car up from practice (#42 quick), rg said: pray. with rg not being a religious guy, you know that wasn't a good sign.
heard that the crew chief bob temple and rgm have parted ways. this isn't a good sign. i've seen this rodeo before.
let's hope something can help turn this program in the direction it needs to go.
there's no doubt he can drive.

oops, i was wrong. i just watched qualif. and they said the #7 was 46th out of 47.
bummer. well at least the car is in one piece. there will be some that won't be able to say that sun night.
they did out run a few other cars, so that's good. just need to find another second of speed.talladega is a hard track to be down on power. every hp counts and if you are down just 5-10 that's huge there.

Nicks...Lake Norman? Kewl.

IMO Robby needs a 400lb crew chief that can just high jack the team and tell him to shut the hell up and drive. And, they knew the plate program was weak from the get go.

Menard continues to work on all aspects of the engine program and while some people may not see it, they truly have come a long way in a very short period of time. I’m optimistic about the package they are bringing this week. They have found quite a bit more low-end torque which should help us get off the corners better at Darlington and also the short tracks like Bristol and Martinsville. I have had very few complaints on our mile-and-a-half motors. RG.com

I hope that is good news, I wonder how the test went for the 600? They only posted the top 10 speeds. I know at a test it is not about test speed, but what you learn about the car and the set up.

in my opinion nobody really likes robby in nascar he is just another california boy. i think he should have stayed in busch for a little while where he was doing pretty well and also stay down there to gain some friends (on the track) so where when we makes his move to cup he will have people to work with when they eventually move up like kaine and truex... dont get me wrong robby is seriously my idol but i think he just came up to fast and ran his mouth a little much. just my two cents

While perusing the NASCAR website this morning, I stumbled upon this interview with Robby:

http://www.nascar.com/2005/races/tune_in/05/06/claireb.rgordon/index.html

I would be nice to see the old Robby again, lots of TV time, causing trouble, crashing cars, and making every race. I have yet to watch a race this year without Robby in the show. There are plenty of others things to watch on TV, and I don't have to listen to hours of useless commentary on FOX.

We'll all see if things improve at Sonoma (6/26/05) and Watkins Glen (8/14/05).

HERE IS A QUOTE FROM RG.COM

“Among the many things we have learned over the last 10 races is that there is no substitute for proper preparation and attention to detail,” said John Story, general manager of Robby Gordon Motorsports. “We were clearly one of the better cars at Darlington during Friday’s practice session, and then made a series of mistakes to the car while prepping it for qualifying. We took what should have been a top-10 qualifying effort and a car and driver capable of racing for a top-5 finish and missed the show. What happened there is inexcusable and shouldn’t happen at this level of competition.

NicksTrix
May 9th, 2005, 21:46
well let's hope they learned from their mistakes and can get in the show at richmond and hopefully run well. RG has run well there in the past.
