She qualified 4th, after nearly being on the pole. Good to see a talented woman get a chance to drive at Indy, (even if it isn't a Champ Car). With David Letterman as team owner this should translate into big TV ratings for the Indy 500. It will be interesting to see what sponsors her car has on race day.

BTW since Mario will be there and Paul Page will be there maybe we'll see a plug for "Dust to Glory" at the Indy 500?

She got more freakin' press than a Guantanamo Koran. Letterman's been involved for a while now, and they won last year with Rice, who everybody wrote off. (Still no press, because he's vagless.) I honestly was hoping they'd keep her in the pits so she didn't end up in the Coke stand... Good to see Bobby still wears the nads in the equation.

At the Long Beach Gran Prix a couple years ago she had a bet with Tommy Kendall about the Lights race she was in. On Sunday morning he had to make good on his wager: Kendall walked through the pit lane while Danika had him on a dog leash.

Many, many of us offered to take his place on the leash.

I really am impressed by her ability on the race track.. but her "acting" on television is horrible. I have to turn it off when she starts reading her lines. What is strange is when she's talking on the fly she's fine... give her something scripted and it's like watching paint dry while someone drags their nails along a chalkboard.

Aloha

LOL...couldn't have said it better......sorta like watching the Teutels (sp?) on American Chopper....."You know, I gotta be honest with ya....".... drives me nuts....

Danika can drag me on a leash anytime, anywhere.....couldn't be that bad with the mini skirts she wears...... :D

Just in case y'all don't know about this: http://www.danicaracing.com/ I got it out of the "Women in Racing" article in the Oct '00 issue of Grassroots Motorsports.

Quote of her mother's in her profile within that article:
"If you want to be the best Lawyer you go to Harvard. If you want to be the best race car driver you go to England." Sorry, but her answer to the Q of other passions was: "I don't have time for anything else other than racing, testing, and working out."
Sounds like we have some work-out buddy volunteers?

The thing is she doesn't wear makeup on the track. It's a credibility issue. She can't wear makeup, because the other racers wouldn't take her seriously. Sarah Fisher raced at Indy a couple years ago and the pre-race interviews included a shot where the cameraman did an extreme closeup of her face (for some sort of dramatic "look at her intensity" thing), and you could see every pore, every blemish. Racer or not, she's still a woman and that is probably the most embarassing moment of her life. Ask your girlfriend, sister, wife, or whatever how they would feel knowing the whole world just saw you like that.. They would probably need some sort of therapy.

In person she looked waaay pretty, athletic, and capable of kicking ***.
Not surprised that someone offered her a ring.

I recently read an article about a study that found that sex b4 any sort of physical endeavor increases the testoserone level in women. This had the effect of increasing their ability to perform. The opposite is true of men. I'm hoping that Danica's new hubby is going to need to call in reinforcements on occasion......

I'm not saying she's ugly, she is decent looking, just not all that spectacular. Take the make-up off and she's nothing special, but I guess that's true of most.

I don't agree. She looks great with or without make up. Plus the driving factor.

I kinda think the shots at the track look better than the FHM ones. Not sure why though.

Have you guys heard that Robby Gordon is complaining about her having an unfair advantage because she weighs less. That seems pretty lame to me.

Have you guys heard that Robby Gordon is complaining

Maybe just a technical observation?

She may be 100lbs... But 50 of it is balls.

We will see what happens when the green flag drops in the big show. She may lose 49.5 lbs of those balls.

Angelle Savoie ? Same technical advantage?

According to the news he said he wouldn't race against her until the rules addressed her weight advantage.

Even The Pole sitter thinks the IRL needs to look at it.

obviously weight has an advantage when racing but you can put the lightest driver in the fastest car and if they can't drive, the weight benefit means nothing. It boils down to skill as a driver, shaving a couple of pounds off can help only if you can already run with the big boys (and girls). Either way, cars have to meet minimum weight specs, so maybe Robby's just imtimidated or maybe he asked her out once and she said no!!! haha ...maybe if Robby lost some of his ego he'd do better.......jm2c.

let the battle begin......ready,... go!!!

I just think its lame that theirs a whole thread on RDC about him not being able to win pavement races and it seems like he's saying its because he has to race against a female. Has he ever come in second to Danika or someone else with her "advantage" if not he seems to be grasping for straws.

Most people do when they feel they can't justify themselves or their actions...too much pride is a **cked up thing and rather than admitting fault they point fingers...

>>Robby Gordon accused Danica Patrick of having an unfair advantage in the
>>Indianapolis 500 and said Saturday he would not compete in the race again
>>unless the field was equalized.

It's kinda funny that it takes a 100 pound woman to bring this out. It wouldn't be that hard to equalize driver weights. They've been doing it on racehorses w/ weighins forever.

That said, last I checked Robby wasn't even racing in the Indy 500 this year. It sounds like he was looking for a bit of press on this one.

And as somebody that could lose some weight myself... maybe if Robby lost some weight he wouldn't be giving away 100 pounds to Danica Patrick.

I mean there's gotta be a fair number of 130-150 pound IRL drivers compared to Robby's claimed 200 pounds... why hasn't anybody b*tched before this?

It'll be interesting to see how she does in the race... it'll be even more interesting if she wins and they put in a rule where all driver weights are brough up to the same level. I mean, they've outlawed competitive advantages at Indy over the years, right?

Pro stock Bikes, And even NASCAR have driver:car weight ratios to level the competition. Maybe if the IRL followed suit the field wouldn't be full of buck-O-five South Americans.

Here read this artical. It is more unbiased towards Robby's statements. Rather than an artical posted by a rival network.

"The lighter the car, the faster it goes,'' Gordon said. ``Do the math. Put her in the car at her weight(100 pounds), then put me or Tony Stewart in the car at 200 pounds and our car is at least 100 pounds heavier..."

wow...I didn't realize Robby was a mathematical genius as well....

i agree with robby on this one and not just cuz robby is my hero. in that type of racing 100lbs is a big deal we all know this. and this isn't the first time robby has complained about weight issues. i seem to remember a few years back robby complained about how christiano de matta was much smaller than him and it caused some issues with robby and fairness. NASCAR, if i remember correctly, puts lead weights in the car to even the field. i think thats a great idea for that type of car.

They should fix other sports also, what about basketball, they need to put up 3 hoops, each one above the other, one about 8 feet high for people under 6' , one at the height now for people 6' to 6'8'' and one about 12 feet up for anyone over 6' 8''

Im sure with a little thought we could level the playing field in all sports :D

I never knew NASCAR leveled out driver weights... and that spiel from Robby posted in the other thread sounds a lot more reasonable.
