Hi Jen, Hi Austin, I'm Khris and I'm alcohol ummm oops, wrong forum. I've got a lifted disco Explorer that I completely knocked the alignment out of on my Halloween dezert trip trying to drive WAY too fast with too many people in it. I'm hopefully buying some Donahoe radius arms tomorrow evening and getting it aligned next week so I can knock it out again. Then later I'm going to get the front beams reworked and sitting back on stock brackets with those funny coil thingies that Austin talked about. I'm currently a facilities engineer but have recently begun aggressively trying to get my foot in the door at a fab/design shop. Oh, I've got a POS Honda Civic with 230K miles that I can't blow up!!! I've got pictures of it a foot in the air though and it still drives straight unlike my Exploder, maybe I'm building the wrong vehicle for the dirt. I ride dirt bike almost every weekend and I used to ride BMX street and dirt jump before I blew my knee up a 2nd time recently. Ummmm, I'm 6'2", 215lbs, blonde hair, blue eyes. I go to clubs and bars on the weekends when I'm not at the dezert. I like the beach and the pretty pretty girls. My dog's name is Jessie, she's a Black Lab. I don't have a girl friend right now but I've been seeing this chick kinda for the past couple weeks so we'll see where that goes. I'll be at the Malibu Dan's preparty/dinner and drinks thing tomorrow so say hello. Ummmm, is that enough Jen? Oh yeah, and I live in Ramona (San Diego county)

Me nombre es Shaun. I am 22 years old, have a 98 tacoma 4x, and live in Redondo Beach, CA. I am Inland Prerunner member #10. Any time I can get away, I'm off to the desert with my wife Michelle. I help out Greg and Jen from Prerunners.com anytime I can at offroading events. You will see me racing in the stock class at the Sandblast in December, or photographing this weekend in Lake Havasu for the short course race. Well, I think that covers it.

I'm Pete from Alpine & 39 yrs.old. I race a 5-1600 when we can, and help our friends when we can't. We'll be working FAIR pit B this weekend. I work in the performing Arts biz, so it is hard to get enough week-ends off. I can usually be spotted at the races in a lifted Jeep Cherokee with a big cow-catcher bumper on the front, a purple and yellow 5-1600, or a large Coronado motorhome with the Coors and Beer mug flags flying.

November 15th, 2001, 18:52
I'm Rory, I've got a 1999 Ford F-250 with stock cookie cutter Firestones (one that exploded on the way back from Baja at 80MPH), kinda has the LUND look, all that ugly stuff, but soon to be outfitted with some real tires...BFG's of course. I'm 31, have 2 kids, Lindsey who's almost 16 and Hanna who turned 8 months today, married to my wife Tracy. I'm a full time Fireman/Paramedic in Bullhead city, and have a side buisness called "Racers Only motorsport designs" where we provide custom racing artwork for t-shirt designs. We also set up a booth at Tech at every SCORE event (and anything else we can hit)and sell our clothing, and I also chase for Collins motorsports at the Mexico races. I've co-rode in a 5-1600 to a class 5 unlimited. My first and only race that I drove was the 2000 SNORE AVI 250 where we placed 1st in class 5 (so we were the only entry, big deal, a win is a win). Right now we are in the final stages of building a 4 seat prerunner with 20" of travel at all 4 corners, King shocks, Toyota motor, and all the good stuff. Hopefully it will be complete by the Laughlin race or in the worst case, San Felipe 250. Thats about it, great idea Jen, nice way to get a feel for who's out there.

Next year goin off to college to do some engineering and after that hopefully make a good living building off-road race trucks and race cars. Hi, I'm Todd Zuercher and I live in downtown Phoenix, AZ. I've been a serious(professional?) fan for many years(first race attended was '87 Parker 400). I'm also an occasional pit monkey for Ace Motorsports(F150/Expedition/Explorer vehicles). I'm 32, single, and I have a large black lab named Buddy. I have a '91 Toyota 2WD truck-stock, my daily driver. My fun rig is a '69 Bronco that I use for driving around in the desert at much slower speeds than the rest of you :-). My interests in racing lie primarily in vehicle suspension tech and off-road racing history. To keep gas in the trucks, I work as a manufacturing engineer at General Dynamics in Scottsdale, AZ. We design and build space communications equipment that, among other things, ensures that our GPS units work.

I'm Thom Singer. I'm a third generation native Californian. Spent my school year summers under the tutlege (sp ?)of my business machine repairman grandfather in Central Oregon's high desert. We did everything from house fab to farm implement repair. Even worked on a V-16 Cadillac once.
I currently work for Wilwood Engineering as a design engineer. My degree says "Prototype Engineer", what ever that means. Actually all 7 of the diploma's CSU, Chico sent me say that. My first caliper design, a radial mount European Rally application, is about to be released at the PRI show. B4 Wilwood I worked for several different concerns fabbing & crewing drag race cars, vintage road race cars, restoring vintage road race and touring cars, prepping race cars, etc., and was one third of a team that designed and built an engine dyno cell which I currently live about 75 feet from. Some nights I fall asleep to the tune of 500 HP. I'm Jeff Polley - and yeah, it's pronounced just like the infamous "polly want a cracker" line. I'm 24 and currently attend UCR. I've got another year or so before I have to get a real job... unless I go back for an MBA. My dads side of the family got me into desert racing. My aunt Beth used to help run the Mickey Thompson Stadium series and when I was a little kid I thought that was the most kick ass thing ever. We need a stadium or shortcourse series like that! I was into RC cars as a kid and always dreamed it would be fun to be 1/10th scale my size - when I realized you really could ride in something resembling an RC car I was hooked. I'm building an 83' Bronco that will be my beating toy of choice. I've always had more fun prerunning than racing so I decided I'd build a nice prerunner now and then get some buds together to run a buggy later. I'm not a River or Glamis rat but I do make it to both at least 2-3 times a year - Glamis on Thanksgiving has become a given - if it's Thanksgiving, that's where I'll be. I might take my snowmobile out there this year... if you see someone on a Blue Yamaha sled it'll be me. Some people ask me what the ALOHA is all about... I try to get the hell out of California any chance I get - it's usually off to Hawaii for a few months at a time, hence the Aloha.

I spend at least an hour in front of a computer five days a week - and a bunch of that is right here on RDC, the best website most people have never heard of. I have a very unusual typing style reminiscent of the old-school typists - it's fast as hell and usually leads me to long winded replies and e-mails. I do all sorts of internet and intranet based marketing for both B2B and B2C. Need a network? Website? Want to electronically keep track of inventory? Need some marketing advice? How about a better way to communicate with customers? e-mail me - I always reply.

Aloha

Ahhhh, I'm Kreg Donahoe the son of Bill Donahoe husban to Paige Donahoe. I'm 32 last I checked. No Kids yet. My Family has been Racing off-road for a while now. 1971 was my Dads first race. He Started Racing With Vernon Roberts from Hemet. They raced everything in a Jeep form in the early years then started running a Dodge Class 4 truck in 86. My first Race in a truck was the 85 Fireworks 250. I rode with My Dad in a jeep j-10 pick up.. 600 hrs and 10 inches of wheel travel with 4 ranchos per wheel... (and I LOVED IT) Been hooked ever scince. In 88 Paige and I started our own team Called Totally off-road racing. (Totally was a pretty cool word in the 80's.) We raced a 7 4x4 toyota in score and hrda. Then in 90 Toyota motorsports stepped in for us and we raced a class 3 toyota 4runner. In 92 I went to work for Walker Evans Racing as a fabricator. That was my first of three tours of duty with Walker. I think we built something like 7 differnt trucks at Walkers during my sentance. (Trophy trucks, CORR truck,Nascar supertrucks,)At the same Time Dave Winner of Fabtech bought a 7s Toyota (the old sage counsel truck) and asked me for some help. So I helped him prep and drive that truck for a few years. In 95 I opened Donahoe Racing Enterprises. We have been going pretty much non-stop ever scince.Under the Donahoe Racing Banner I have had the chance to Race a big Class 8 truck as well as campian a year in Trophy Truck. Out of our shop in Anahiem we build Race trucks, Pre-runners and sell suspension products for everything off-road. Some of our clients include. Brady Helm, S&S motorsports, Walker Evans, Bob Gordon, Mark Post,Leo Brown, Craig Turner, Steve Kreiger, T&j's, Frank Hiens,Martyn Atkins,Fabtech Motorsports,Jim Price and Bruce Lanfield to name a few. Lots of good teams have made us look good over the last few years I thinks we are up to 16 championships and 105 race wins. We just opened a new Showroom and are planning on having a big open house so look for that soon. Ahhhh I'm just stoked I get to do what I love. And I get to do it with the best people in the world. Peace out

I am in my 4th year going on my junior year at the University of Arizona out here in Tucson.(5 year plan at least) I am majoring in finance and entrepenuership. I am 21 and have been into offroading/the dezert since I could only afford a 2wd ranger when I was 16. Working at Mission Yamaha through highschool and now on my summers has helped to keep me into offroading. Now I have a 00 tacoma prerunner with some mild mods that help me get around the dezerts out here, which there are a lot of. I always look forward to coming home to cali, but its nice to point my truck in any direction and be in the desert within a half hour. I love learning everything that I can about offroad racing and do as much as I can myself to my truck,... since I'm broke. and I always am ready to help out at a race by chasing or piting etc. and try to make it to whiplash races when I can

well i might as well join the party!

i am ollie penchansky, the better half of penchansky brothers racing (pbr), my identical twin brother ivan (not stewart) and i own and drive "butch". "butch" is a nelson and nelson creation that was driven by larry ragland and jimmie johnson. we bought him wrecked about 5 years ago and have been trying to race ever since. it is the same old song and dance, no $$$$$$$$$ to support our sick truck!!!

i am 29, have a smoking hot wife "audra"(just got married this year), and just got a black lab puppy named "liberty". we live in culver city, ca (los angeles) we also bought a house this year with a 3 car garage where the race truck lives. i also have a '01 chevy silverado disco truck, '76 chevy prerunner, a suzuki drz400, and don't forget the honda z50 mini bike. i am a video editor in santa monica and do work on television shows.

we didn't race at all this year but plan on doing some races next year (we had a really busy year, no excuse but...). we are working on some $$$ sponsors for next year and if that works out maybe we'll do more than 1 race. we have raced mdr, bitd, and score.8br>

My name is Mike Kim, I'm one of the very few asians in off road racing. I am 21 years old. I used to race with R&D motorsports and I used to work for them as a fabricator as well. I have since left R&D and am deciding which team to hook up with for next year. I own a 96 tacoma (used to be 4WD) that has a ATS long travel kit in the front with SAW coilovers. I have 62in. set of deavers on the back with King bypass shocks. I am in the process of gutting the truck right now to fully cage it. When I was 17 my friends and I went out to a MDR race and was hooked from then on. Basically now I just love getting in dirt to play with whatever goes fast. Hope to see you guys out in the desert.

Hi my name is Curtis Guise, I am 26. I live in Brentwood, CA (not next door to OJ) about 1 hour east of San Francisco. I am currently single and I am one of the crazy ones that drives many hours to the races. I started playing in the dirt about 12 years ago racing BMX bikes, then moved on to cross country mountain bike racing for team Action-Tec, then raced downhill mountain bikes until about a year and a half ago. I recently just got back into riding again (need to get back into shape...) My first truck was an 83' Toyota when I was 16, then I bought my 90' Toyota about three years ago which now has one of the great Total Chaos kits on it. I started building an 82' 2wd Toyota as a prerunner about 5 or 6 years ago, but about 2 years into it I decided to start racing it. The truck is now in the 7 open class and has been registered for the street since day one. I did my first race with MDR at the Lucerne night race probably about 4 years ago. We finished with no problems! When I started building that truck I was in machining classes and considered starting my own small fabrication business called JD Fabrications, but it mainly just turned into my race team. (a friend just told me that in a recent mag there is someone in So Cal using that name, wonder who that is?) The truck has been for sale, and if it ever sells I would like to build a real nice pre-runner and then maybe race again in the future. The JD comes from my graphic design business name called Juice Designs (most of you might have seen the banners on this site). I am also a full time graphic designer at a sign company in Concord, CA. Juice Designs was started about 10 years ago when I used to airbrush bike helmets for friends. My main focus for now with Juice Design has been video editing. I have also designed many of the RDC advertisement banners, the RDC logo, S&S Motorsports logo, just to name a few. As well as providing all of the RDC stickers and having stickers, t-shirts and other products made for various companies and race teams. Many of you probably know by now that I also did the design, editing and part of the filming of the new off-road video called Dezert people "the movie" with filming and great work from Klaus and Nicole. I also recently editing a short team video for SMD Motorsports as well as most of the editing for the SCORE Primm Mini Metal Bash (which is out of my hands now, and the teams should be getting it soon ;-) )
My hobbies include: BMX street riding, mountain bike riding (maybe racing again soon), going to as many desert races as possible, pitting with team Locos Mocos and making all the stickers and banners for the races we pit at, racing my truck when I have the $$$$(hasn't been for a year now :( ), snowboarding, wakeboarding, filming all of these sports and hopefully doing videos for all of them soon, a wakeboarding video is in the works..., driving my 64' Lincoln Continental when it runs good...,& riding my XR 400, I have always wanted to try rally racing, but again that requires $$$$$

Good idea Jen!

ok-here goes. my name is martin gill(martin in socal) i have a wife(michele) and 2 sons(dustin miles gill which will be dusty ,iles when he starts racing, my wife still hasn't figured it out haha and dane gill) we live in th ebest kept secret of sputhern california, big bear. i started my offroad life when i was about 6. my dad had a glass car that we used to drive on beaches and trails up in santa cruz(where i grew up) and then we started going to sand drags and obstacle races. pismo was huge back then. started riding 3 wheelers when the biggest ride was a 90 with solid rubber wheels. i am still looking for a green honda atc 90 of the 75-76 vintage if anyone knows of one. my dad got stalled in his business as i approached the teen years, so the buggy sat for a while. about age 13, i wanted to start driving and my dad said if i got the buggy running, i could have it! about 3 weeks later i rolled it in a big field with 3 frinds and my sister on board. have been hooked ever since!one of my co-riders and i went to reno to see the end of the forst frontier 500(skipped school and camped in his '63 rambler in weeks nevada) started pitting for a 1600 car that ran in vorra about the same time. did some prep work out of the shop and started the first of uncountable race car projects(reduction box 5 car!) raced with a couple different 1600 cars, then moved to southern california in 1987 to be closer to the sport. built and raced a couple of 9 cars, a 7s toyota, have had another prerun glass car, a baja bug, and have a desire to get back into a 9 car(the 12 year old wants to learn how to race!). am currently working on a '87 ranger chase truck and a 12 car chassis sits in the garage. i have been a firefighter since 1984 and currently work in riverside county(even get to eat a farmer boys in woodcrest when we cover station #8) currently assigned to sun city, but am close to a captains promotion, so i don't know where i will be next year. i work hard for a land use rights because i grew up in a county you can no longer offroad in, period. when offroad vehicles are outlawed, the blm will never be able to catch me! many friends know me as fish(gill). i hope to see offroad become a premier sport for racers and spectators.

If your gonna go, go BIG

First dez race I got to pit for the Class 8 Bragg Boys (JM is the dad) at a MORE race, got to go to Parker this year. I'm an wannabe small-time fabricator and currently in a police academy. Okay, I'll type-in.

I started Off-Road.com in 1996 when I was living in Hawaii because I missed the Baja and dez trips. It was strictly a hobby site but quickly became a business. We try to run it like the later as much as possible. I started off-roading on a dirtbike when I was 12 years old or, 32 years ago. I first traveled and camped in Baja on a regular basis with m family when I was 9 years old. I started getting into the SCORE, Baja race deal when I was a pit crew member and later pit-captain for American Honda, @12 years ago. As of late I have jumped in the right seat of pciscott's Protruck and look forward to similar rides in his new Trophy Truck. My near future plans are for more rides with Scott and most likely a JeepSpeed deal with Fidel Gonzales and Eric Lane in that series. Long term I am working to be knowledgeable enough to create the best opportunity to get my kids (3 boys, 1 girl) into off-road racing as serious competitors.

Cheers

Hey there - Kurt Puhl here, from Vista, CA. 39 years old, married to a great lady named Chris, we've got 4 great (sometimes) kids, Zach 13, Stephanie 11, Jake 8, Dana 4 1/2. I'm a General contractor and Real Estate developer. For years we have been playing in the desert, dirt and sand (just got back from Ocitillio Wells a few hours ago). I'm new to the racing side of things thou, 2 years ago I decided to take the playing to another level, after spectating 1 race I was hooked and got myself a 5-1600. Not knowing the first thing about off-road racing we `ecided to enter Sportsman at MDR last year - 2000 - and just have fun as we learned. We had great fun and learned tons, also we were extremely lucky winning 3 races and 2nd in the other 3 and taking the 2000 Sporstman class championship. This year 2001 - raced 5-1600 class at MDR, didn't have as much individual race success, 3 - 2nds & a third but managed to stick around enough that we backed into the 2001 class championship dispite rolling and DNF at the last race. Have met many great people at the races and hope to met many more of you in the future. Later

Hi, I am Eric ZIzzi, of Gilbert Arizona. I have only been involved in off-road racing for the last 1.5 years (Nevada 2000 was first race) Man was I hooked! I have been involved in off-road since I was a kid in the form of motorcycles though. In 2001 I raced the first half of Whiplash and an mdr race in my 10/12 car.

Oh yeah, I am 33, 1 wife, 2 kids, and a third on the way (in the form of adoption) - Thus For Sale sign on 12 car :). I plan on racing a 1/2 1600 class in 2002 though. Professionally, I am a web Programmer by trait and own my own fledgling company as well (thus further explains For Sale sign on 12 car).

Side Note:
The coolest part of off road racing is all of the other racers out there having fun. I can't think of any other sport where going to your competitor for help is not only tolerated but treated with the same caring and intensity as if they were your team.

Ok, I am done now.. No really, I am :)

Hey everyone, my name is Paul Blangsted. I live in Snowmass Village, Colorado. I work for the Fire Dept. here in Snowmass and am not married. I went to my first off-road race, Baja 1000 in '96 and was hooked. Built a class 7s Toyota (Fire Guys Racing) with a buddy and have been working our way into the racing world for the last 3 years and having a blast. If you see us at a race come and say HI, we'll be in Laughlin next. Later.

My name is Greg Gagnon, ill be 30 in a month. I am building a 93 ranger. I help Jen (jendiggitydirt, she's my girl ya know) with running Inland Prerunners, although she really does most of the work. I love the techical side of desert racing and I'm facinated with going as fast as I can for the least amount of $$ possible. I am the lead machinist in a mid-size shop in "lovely" San Bernardino, we do prototype work so most of our machines still have handles. We speacialize in engineering/ building seizemic testing machines and fixtures (lots of magnesium). I've never raced anything but had plenty of fast stuff ('90 GSXR 162 rear wheel HP, 125 cc shifter cart, '97 cr250 with a built 500 motor, TRX 250 with a 310 motor,'58 cj witn a 302/ c4, and a few fox-body mustangs, my lastest has around 300 hp but is mostly built for auto-cross). But my pride and joy is my '93 ranger. I truly belive in thinking "outside" the box and I'm trying new and different stuff on my truck often. Anybody ever made I-beams from 7075? that's next for me. My budget for the truck is les than $15k including the cost of the truck, and my goal is to go as fast as the "high dollar" prerunners out there. Lofty I know, but i'm gonna try. I'm also into Hi-fi stuff (anyone into records and tubes?). I have no children and live with Jen. Im lucky to have a girl who is into this stuff as much or more than I am. Hell, on our first "date " we ran about 30 miles of desert. I have to say that most of the people I socialize with are people I've met from being involved in this sport and I think its great. Enough about me...whose next?

There are so many new people on this board! I just looked at the "Who's Online" section and more than half are names I don't recognize. I thought it might be cool for everyone to post a HELLO here and maybe a sentence or two about who they are. I'll go first:
I'm Jen from Riverside. I'm 29 and my boyfriend Greg and I are offroad racing fans and get our trucks in the dirt whenever we can (I have an '84 Ranger all prerunnered out). We are MDR volunteers and love short course racing, too.
Ok, who's next?

I'm Mike Holvey 23 yrs old from Huntington Beach CA I just got married in April of 2001, no kids or even a bun in the oven yet. I drive a bone stock 2000 Silverado still trying to decide what I want to do with it. last season I bought a new long travel car for Glamis having alot of fun with it. I have been going to glamis for 22 yrs I got involved in the dirt scene in 96'. I rode shot gun in my friends class 10 car for 2 yrs. HK Motorsports was started in about 99' I think? in Steve's garage doing entry level lifts and basic fabrication never got much farther than that. We still do most of our own stuff with help of everone over at Camburg Engineering. Still hoping to find a money tree some day to support my addiction to Motorsports, but untill then it's back to work.

November 19th, 2001, 14:57
I am Douglas Powell, I don't post much but do enjoy reading all that is going on, courtesy of this great website. I am a 26 year old Manufacturing Engineer having graduated from Oregon State University in 1998, and now work at Xerox near Portland Oregon so as to support my racing efforts. I competed in Formula SAE and SAE Mini Baja in the mid 90s while in engineering school. At my last collegiate race in 98 I met Ivan Stewart and he looked over our car and convinced me to come see a SCORE race. I went to Laughlin in 99 and it took about 5 seconds to look around contigency at all the cars to realize what I want to do the rest of my life. I met George Seeley and Charlie and Dennis Nuckles at that race and they have served kind of as race mentors. Being that I had just designed an A-arm buggy for Mini Baja, I thought it would be cool to race in class 10. I bought an older car from VORRA racers Dale Smith and Dennis Kordonaway. I got together 5 other engineers from the area and formed Team Powell (see us at http://www.teampowell.com (http://www.teampowell.com><A)</A> ) I raced it at Laughlin of 2000 and realized it wasn't competitive, so we have been constantly updating the car and occasionally racing it so I can get some seat time. Since then I have met lots of great people and have never looked back. I met Ty Godde at the 2000 Baja 500 and helped him finish the Baja 2000 last year which was a kick in the pants. Future plans for the team are to race the 02 San Felipe and 02 Baja 500 to get some more seat time and see if our latest upgrades to the car can make us competitive. Down the road a bit, we plan on designing, engineering, fabricating a kick ass class 1 car. Racing from up here in Oregon is kind of tedious, so I keep my eyes open for jobs in the Carlsbad area, where the waves are excellent for body surfing. Hope to meet a bunch of you at the races!

I'm Sean Breaux (yes, my last name is indeed pronounced "bro"). I reside in the lame inland town of San Dimas, CA. I'm 20 and in my third year of college. I would like to get into fabrication as a career, and am currently reading all kinds of suspension design literature. I spend too much time in this forum reading/studying posts, although I don't post much myself. I've been addicted to the dezert scene ever since visiting Glamis a while back, and I am bent on turning my '98 Ranger into a dezert worthy machine. I finally have the money for the front end, its just a matter of choosing which shop to have build it. I know all about every existing setup for my truck, but am hoping to luck into a prototype price. Any shop looking for an a-arm ranger to design a long travel coilover setup on? Send me an e-mail, I got the money in my pocket. If not, I'll probably go with the new H&M setup. Enough about me, I'll crawl back in my hole now....

Kritter
November 19th, 2001, 17:36
Hi, my name is Kris A.K.A. Kritter, Animal, Beefer, whatever. I have been into offroading since I was born. I grew up around trucks because my Dad was in a 4x4 club, which helped out with a lot of races back in the day. I started working on trucks with my Dad and riding motorcycles at age 3. Ever since then, I have wanted to be an engineer and in 6 months I will be graduating with honors with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I hope to get a job with GM or Ford in their chassis development sector or a local performance development company. I like to design. If anybody needs some design software letme know. I used to be a personal trainer and triathelete but then gave that up a year ago to finish school, drink beer, and get fat.

I currently work as an Intern Engineer at General Electric Jet Engines...the same maker of the engine that fell out of the plane last week in NY...that was not a natural engine failure as the media would love you to believe! I was told today that November 30 would be my last day because of cutbacks following September 11, which killed the airplane industry leading to termination of the internship program at my facility. If any of you need an intern or gopher I am your man. PM me and I will send you a resume.

I also help out with DMS Racing's class 7s. I began with them in July and have been helping with pit/prep and calling maintenance to clean up the flood. Hahaha. Some people on here know what I am talking about

I currently am in the process of building a Ranger, but the process is very slow due to money constraints. I would really love to build it myself, but I do not have the tools or the time.

I currently live with the Fam. and my girl Karleen in San Dimas, CA. I like to work on my truck whenever possible because it keeps me busy and off of RDC. When time/money permits I head straight for the desert, Glamis, or Bigbear in the winter and none other than Havasu in the summer.

I have met quite a few people on here and think that this community and website is one of the best things I get to do all day.

Below is a pic of me and my girl last year. I don’t have any current pics and I don’t look much like this anymore, but hey, it’s a picture and nobody else has added this touch to the thread.

Hey, my name is Jason Hutter, and I live in Snowmass Village, CO. (If you can find Aspen on the map, that is close enough) My first race I ever saw was in San Felipe when I was in Pre-School I think. I had always remembered that race and in high school, racing became a passion. I started out by hangin' with Full Tilt Off-Road in San Clemente, CA. I was living there at the time, and would go to the races to help. I am now a fireman here in Snowmass Village, and have built a Toyota 7s with my co-worker and buddy Paul Blangsted. We are starting to get some cool sponsors, but before the sponsors it was totally funded by Paul and I, and the pit crews were and are family and friends. I love the races, and stop-by in Laughlin to say hi!

Later,

I'm Dani from Long Beach. .... aka.... Danihoe .... The Princess .... or that stupid biiatch with a big mouth, which ever you prefer.
I grew up jeeping all over California and Nevada with the Trail Masters Jeep Club. I have a 47 Willies Jeep that I restored --- it's just needs to be painted.
I became interested in off-road racing several years ago. Since then I have made many many great friends that race. I have participated in many different off-road clean-ups and events of that sort. I was one of the founding members of CORDR but I quit because of one person who doesn't approve of freedom of speech and was not okay with me just being me.
Occasionally I piss people off because I am not afraid to say what is on my mind. And of course I tend to bring up things that nobody else has the balls to say. I don't kiss peoples @sses and you'll know if I don't like you. Usually the people I piss off are just big wussies any how.
At the races you can find me handing out clean-up fliers, partying with my girlz -- DezertChk & Sweetthang, and cleaning up everyones crap on Sundays.
That's about it.

Cool thread and a great way to get to know everybody. My name is Ed. I'm 35 and live and work in the Dallas, TX area. I work for the U.S. EPA in the division responsible for cleaning up contaminated sites. Some of our staff is involved in the anthrax cleanup. In fact, our agency is the one that discovered chlorine dioxide gas kills the deadly bacteria. Even so, I work behind the scenes as a lowly, paper-pushing, staff attorney.

I have a beautiful 8 year old daughter who lives with her Mom in Florida. I'm trying to get her interested in off-road racing and off-road recreation in general. Unfortunately, there isn't any off-road racing close to where I live, and I'm either too broke or too busy to take time off to go to any races. I'm just a spectating fan and try to live vicariously through the rest of y'all by reading the threads on this great forum, reading articles in the mags and buying and watching videos with all the cool action. I drive a disco-ish, Tacoma Prerunner "wannabe" to and from work each day, and have grandiose plans of turning it into a true desert prerunner as soon as I win the lottery.

My interest in off-road racing started when I used to live in Imperial County, CA a few years ago when I worked for INS in another lowly, staff attorney position. I would sometimes bug Border Patrol to let me ride shotgun with them in their green and white Ford Broncos along the international boundary line. Whenever there was an alert, we'd race across the desert, bouncing around with its stock suspension. Sometimes we would see a few, cool-looking desert prerunners playing around in the desert near Ocotillo, just south of I-8. Whenever the Baja races would finish, I'd go hang out at the Calexico Port of Entry to watch the cool race trucks, chase trucks and prerunners go through.

I learned alot by reading through these threads and through e-mails with Kevin Hutter, Jason's brother, who's been kind enough to educate me on some of the technical and suspension related stuff that makes prerunners and race vehicles so capable. I have a better understanding and appreciation as to what goes into building such vehicles, as well as the sacrifices and work that alot of y'all put into the sport for spectator fans like myself.

I hope to one of these days make a trip back West to watch a race or two and meet some of y'all in person. Take care!

Hello, my name is Sheryl Cannon. I've been involved in off-road racing since 1973. I am currently building a full size prerunner to run in the MDR, BitD, and Whiplash circuits. I am a reported for Dusty Times and cover the MDR Desert series, the Xtreme Int'l Short Course series, and I cover lots of extra events too. I am the Treasurer for the Coalition of Off-Road Desert Racers. I do marketing and promotion for racers. I'm on Davis Motorsports (DMS) 7s team. Oh yeah and my real job, I'm THE RacnCPA. I'm about the only CPA in the business that has a large client base of every type of racer from the little guy racing on a shoestring budget to the corporate sponsors that you all receive your contingency from.

In the past I was the General Manager for DANCO Racing from 1992 through 1996, and am very proud to say we were LaRana 7s champions for four consecutive years and then moved up to Class 8s and were the 1996 Glen Helen 8s champions. I'm the crazy chick some of you may have seen in Sean McKenzie's truck at the 1999 Estero Beach race, who did the spectacular roll right in front of the grandstands, AWESOME! I've sponsored many groups and causes over the years. From Desert People the movie (and the old color stills in the beginning were from my Parker 1970's collection and others from the 1981 SCORE Riverside Championships) to Inland Prerunners to CORDR Desert Clean-Up I and II. The list goes on and on.

I've owned four race trucks in my time. 1964 Ranchero Class 6 built by Henry Arras, 1973 Ford Bronco Class 3, 1996 Ford Ranger Class 7s, 1996 Ford F-150 Class 8s. Can't wait to get the new racetruck up and running and get out there!!! Continued at a race near you . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

I'm Ann, born in the South, the poor daughter of a share cropper. Grew up in a single wide with the hopes of a double wide with no tires on the roof to keep the tar paper down. One day, Pa decided we was moving to California, we packed the ol Chevy and California, here we come! After breaking down quite a few times, we made it. After that trip, my Pa got smart and bought a Ford. Ol 350 Betsy hasn't broken down once.
My first race was San Felipe many years ago, where I watched my brother eat TWO "death dogs" that are served on evey corner. I vowed never to eat them after smelling the results a few hours later. I happily slept in the truck that night.
I am still looking for the two Germans that tagged my parked and defenseless truck "Disco Truck Queen" at an MDR race last year. I think they were driving a white TT Blazer...seen at Slash X later that evening...Oh wait, I think that's the one that managed to get it's rear window covered with stickers left over from the SEMA show...How did that happen-who did that? (teeheehee-luv ya guys)
Anyways...life is too short NOT to have fun. See ya in the Dezert!

Hello, I'm Terrie....If you go and spectate at the MDR races, I'm sure you've seen me....I'm the lady that races the yellow class 10 car with the orange flames and the mean black panther on the side of it. I have an all female team, and this year, we placed 2nd in the MDR class 10 series. I'm the last person you'd ever expect to race...off the track, I'm a stay at home mom, 5' 1" tall, 105 lbs.. I have four kids...two young girls and two boys that are already grown up. For years, I've watched my boys compete, racing dirt bikes, and guess that deep down inside, I had the urge to race also. I'm not coordinated enough to drive anything on two wheels tho. I bought a buggy four years ago, ran it out at Dumont and Glamis, and decided I needed more "driving" time so made the commitment to race. I started racing three years ago after I brought the buggy up to todays racing requirements (new fuel cell, fire wall, etc) and raced as sportsman novice in shortcourse and desert & then the following year, I bought Brady Helm's class 10 Sway-A-Way car and ran as pro class 10 and won the desert championship as well as the o/a desert points in the VORRA series. This year, I painted the car yellow and ran it at MDR. The rougher the course, the better...I guess I like pain! I try to 'ironman" all of my races. We raced (and finished) 9 races this year, for a total of 2,350 miles and I drove every mile but 150 of them. Next year I plan to race the Nevada 1000 and hope to drive the whole race (I'll have a back up just in case tho!!!). I also plan to race 5 shortcourse races. My first race of the season will be the Parker 400. Deanna is my co-driver/navigator and she's great at keeping me out of trouble! I love my car!!! It has just completed 32 races and finished all but one (wreck at Baja 1000). CAN'T WAIT TIL NEXT SEASON...the down time is driving me CRAZY!!!!!! I love RDC (been a visitor since it started) and I'm an member of IP (I'm Yikes on their chat site). Jen and Greg are toooo cool!!!!

SEE YA'LL AT THE RACES!!!!!

Coool.

im geoff. im 21, and a mechanical engineering student at arizona state. Im a riceboy at heart and have a civic. I work at a fabrication (chassis and turbo systems) shop. I started my own company making parts for hondas. Our shop is responsible for 2 wrc cars and our biggest bragging right comes from our 902.6 wheel horsepwer supra. Its in this months issue of sport compact car i anyone cares.

I worked a lot on a crawler (my roomate's xj) and our shops sbc powered CJ. I wanted to build a prerunner and found this place. I got a pos pickup truck that is long as hell (long bed extended cab 87 toy) and i started to cut it up. Once i can find more time ill actually make some real progress.

I ride BMX (street mostly) and have a 5 foot mini spine at my house. I also used to race downhill and am just getting back into MTBs. Surfing is my favorite thing to do, but living in the desert makes that tough.

overall, Im impressed at how much of a family sorta thing you prerunner guys have. very cool. thanks for the site, its a hell of a BBS.

Hi there....Is your Tech sheet filled out?
I'm Art "ThE TECH DUDE" Savedra. I'm not to shy about leaving my e-mail or real name.
I guess I've been doing this tech stuff for 30 years now, it really started out to be a great hobby and now it's ARTS "All Race Tech & Safety." I've teched vehicles from NASCAR at Riverside Raceway, Long Beach Gran Prix...you know the first ones. After a bunch of years with SCCA racing I got hurt, Burnt in '78.
Then I got hooked up with SCORE in 1980. Under the watchful eyeball of Bill Savage in 84, I'm the Tech director for MDR, Estero Beach raceway, PIT, ACE and work tech for SCORE, SNORE.
I'm married with children, wife Susie (aka) "Killer"....trust me don't ask! Our Guy now 17 drives our two 5/1600's, one a 1965 Baja "Stars & Stripes" and the other my own 1969 Baja "Show time" built and maintained by B&H Racing, we race at SNORE & ESTERO BEACH. Our girl, Ivy Rose now 14, loves answering my office phone and doing the office thing for Dad (me).
Our great sponsors are Signpro's, MSD, K&N, BFG, Instant Mexico Auto Insurance, B&H Racing, Central Body & Paint, Lone Kid Racing & ARTS. Our other drivers are Big Bob, Rick Elis, Billy "Wild Bill" Worthing. Pit support by firends, girlfriends and family.
You can find me at most all Desert races in the Tech area...with Big Red, Poyo, David, Billy sometimes Tony Saavedra and Bill Markel....a great team of friends and family. I really don't want these racers to meet all the good looking nurse's I have met in the hospital over the last 23 years.
I do a lot of volunteer work by talking to kids and parents about burn care and fire prevention for the Alisa Ann Rush Burn Foundarion in both California and Nevada.

The details of my life are quite inconsequential...My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low-grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a 15 year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink, he would make outrageous claims, like he invented the question mark. Sometimes, he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy - the sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical: summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring, we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent, I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds. Pretty standard, really...

My Name is Dave Guthmiller owner of Advanced Machining Dynamics. Yes, that's right, another good german boy ;-) I've been around off road racing since 1981 and by todays standards I'm considered an old dude. I'm 41 years and have been happily married to my wife Michelle for over ten years. Ive attached a pic of us with our old WW I British Tiger Moth we used to own. (had to sell it to finish the RV-6A project...) Since I make TT parts all day long I spend my weekends as far away from racing as possible. I'm an avid aviation buff and have been a reserve deputy sheriff with San Bernardino county for the past 20 years. I'm currently assigned as a reserve pilot with the Sheriffs Aviation division. I'm also vice president of Inland Fish & Game Conservation Association a 1000 member gun club located in Highland California. I only hang out here on Race-dez cuz John Bitting makes me.... :-O just kidding john.

My name is Jeff Matlock (31) and I live in Vacaville, CA (Nor. Cal.). I am married to my wife, Denise (30), and have two son's, Zak (11) and Tyler (2). I am a Deputy Sheriff for the Napa County Sheriff's Department. I have been following desert racing since the mid 80's, mostly on T.V., since I live in Northern California. For the past 5 years or so, I have been attending the short course races for VORRA at Prarie City OHV (just east of Sacramento, CA) as a spectator. My wife and I attended the 2002 Laughlin race and were very impressed. That was definitely the big leagues of desert racing. Hopefully, I will be buying a Class 9 car soon and begin racing with VORRA, both short course and desert. Any tips or info would be greatly appreciated. My other hobbies include hunting, camping and working on cars. I own a 1997 Dodge 1500 4x4, extra cab, short bed that I want to start making into a pre-runner. i would like to put coilovers on the front. Not to many kits available for the straight axle, though. To all, be safe and drive fast! (in the desert of course).

I'm Armando Guzman, co-driver for Rob Reinertson and Rick Johnson in Pro-trucks 234 and 243. I started racing a street-legal Baja Bug back in 1989, my goal was to finish the Baja 1000 at least once. After many tries, my dream came true in the Baja 2K, when we took second in Protruck #243, after 46 hours of the best off-road course that Baja can offer, and where I had the privilege to ride with Rick Johnson from Guerrero Negro (where the helicopter crashed) to Insurgentes. Before I got to Protruck, I raced the Stock Mini class for 4 year with Rob, and we got several championships to brag about, both with score and BITD. I still have my Baja bug, for sentimental reasons, and I really enjoy the ride we get out of the Protruck. I have a wife and 3 kids. One of them, Tony, is also racing now, so the second generation of desert racers has started. So Go desert or stay home and hope to watch it on tv!

I'm Tim Price from Marin County in Northern Calif. Every year we tow our "Baja Bros." 2-1600 Lothringer down for the San Felipe 250. It's our only race. Our "Baja Bros." team consists of my wife Stacey and my brother and his wife. They drive a Jerry Penhall-built Toyota prerunner. My own daily driver is a Penhall-built Ranger prerunner. Jerry also built our very first race car, a gorgeous Raceco Class 9 two seater. Unfortunately, the older I got, the more driving that car felt like I was getting beat with a two-by-four. My first taste of Baja was flying down in my dad's Cessna 172 in the '60's. I first drove the Baja Road in 1972 back when Baja legends like Papa Diaz, Arturo Grosso, Anita Espinosa, and Papa Fernandez were still alive.... and before a lot of you were born, I'd guess. My occupation for the past 30+ years has been advertising creative director. I've worked on Levi Strauss & Co., the California Dancing Raisins, Nintendo and a lot of others. I once thought up and guided a TV commercial featuring Michael Jackson ("the gloved one") by phone from Punta Pescadero in Baja Sur. And I once put off road vehicles into a spot for Armor All. I can't get enough of Baja and off road racing. And I seriously doubt I ever will.

Ended up blowing up the transmission so I got a job with JG Transwerks worked there for awhile doing teardowns and helping them prep there 1600. The next year I bought a single seat mirage 1600 and started building the car. I raced that car until last year when I bought a 2 seat Bunderson. The car is almost finished and should be race ready in a few months.

I'm "Billy Z" (Bill Zimmerman) of TEAM COCKTAIL RACING. We run a Class 11 bug in MDR races. You may also know me as the front man in the TEAM COCKTAIL rock band, we played at a few post-race parties in our pit, and at Slash X a few times for various events.

Our group does alot of camping and 4-wheeling, and we do about 9 or 10 ATV trips to Glamis and Dumont each season.

I got into desert racing in the early 80's when a friend invited me to be part of his HDRA checkpoint crew. That first trip we manned a checkpoint in Baja on the big dry lake bed, with Robby coming at us at 140 mph, and locking them up for 300+ yards (usually blowing by my little stop sign) to get his stub in the can.

We did all the desert and short course HDRA races for Walt Lott and Danny Cau, as well as many SCORE events. The coolest was Riverside raceway, where we served as rollover crew in the center of a hairpin turn. Two huge mud puddles on each side, water balloons raining down on us. We ran across that muddy track with only a little yellow flag to protect us while trying to roll over a class 8 truck. Wild times.

My friend Scott Schroder always wanted us to race, and he began building his VW "herbie" car. In the '90's we were racing MDR races and even entered the BITD Vegas to Reno.

Off-Road Racing is a blast, and I hope to be involved till I'm farting desert dust.

Hi I am Bolca Grande II and I am glad to tell you a little about myself.

I am a dynamic figure, often seen scaling walls and crushing ice. I have
been known to remodel train stations on my lunch breaks, making them more
efficient in the area of heat retention. I translate ethnic slurs for Cuban
refugees, I write award-winning operas, I manage time efficiently.

Occasionally, I tread water for three days in a row.

I woo women with my sensuous and godlike trombone playing, I can pilot
race cars of all types with unflagging speed, and I cook Thirty-Minute
Brownies in twenty minutes. I am an expert in stucco,
a veteran in love, and an outlaw in Peru.

Using only a hoe and a large glass of water, I once single-handedly defended
a small village in the Amazon Basin from a horde of ferocious army ants. I
play bluegrass cello, I was scouted by the Mets, I am the subject of
numerous documentaries. When I'm bored, I build large suspension bridges in
my yard. I enjoy urban hang gliding. On Wednesdays, after school, I repair
electrical appliances free of charge.

I am an abstract artist, a concrete analyst, and a ruthless bookie. Critics
worldwide swoon over my original line of corduroy evening wear. I don't
perspire. I am a private citizen, yet I receive fan mail. I have been caller
number nine and have won the weekend passes. Last summer I toured New Jersey
with a traveling centrifugal-force demonstration. I bat .400. My deft floral
arrangements have earned me fame in international botany circles. Children
trust me.

I can hurl tennis rackets at small moving objects with deadly accuracy. I
once read Paradise Lost, Moby Dick, and David Copperfield in one day and
still had time to refurbish an entire dining room that evening. I know the
exact location of every food item in the supermarket. I have performed
several covert operations for the CIA. I sleep once a week; when I do sleep,
I sleep in a chair.

While on vacation in Canada, I successfully negotiated with a group of
terrorists who had seized a small bakery. The laws of physics do not apply
to me. I balance, I weave, I dodge, I frolic, and my bills are all paid. On
weekends, to let off steam, I participate in full-contact origami. Years ago
I discovered the meaning of life but forgot to write it down. I have made
extraordinary four course meals using only a mouli and a toaster oven. I
breed prizewinning clams. I have won bullfights in San Juan, cliff-diving
competitions in Sri Lanka, and spelling bees at the Kremlin. I have played
Hamlet, I have performed open-heart surgery, and I have spoken with Elvis.

Well, I guess its time I introduce myself! My name is Travis and I am 21 years old (21 = big trouble). I was born and raised in San Diego and I currently attend the University of Spoiled Daughters (USD) where I plan on finding my rich future wife who will support my racing problem. If that doesn't work out, I plan on going to law school next year and eventually becoming a venture capitalist. I saw my first race by accident as I was on a surf trip with my dad at Punta Cabras on the same weekend of the Baja 500. Have been hooked ever since. Got involved chasing at the Baja 2000 with Syko racing where we finished 4th (at least we finished!) Got to ride for the first time at Laughlin where we won!! (I think I am good luck...at least thats what I tell Dave as I eye that right seat in our new Protruck!) I have mildy built 98 F-150 4x4 that can handle anything thrown its way, just maybe not that fast. Nevertheless its serves it primary purpose of surf trips deep into Baja. I want to thank Klaus and John and all the other RDC guys for giving us a place to "hang out" while we are suppose to be working! Hope to see you all at the races!

I am Jeremy from WI. Not too many desert racing fans from my neck of the woods but we do have the CORR races near my home. I first went to a corr race two years ago and have been hooked ever since. My low cash flow keeps me from doing any racing but I am a big Carl Renezeder fan. He runs a first class operation. I have been in the desert once but not for a race, someday I'll make the trek south. I'll be at the Crandon race so I'll look for the prerunners.com people.

I'm Aaron, 27 years old and Orange County has always been my home. I have been engaged to Roxane for 4 years, yes we are getting married, when I don't know but she is definately the one for me. I have been a Good Guys car audio installer for 4 years. Before that I worked at Orvac Electronics for 3.5 years while attending Fullerton JC for analog and digital electronics and carpentry classes. I have been interested in mechanical and electronic things since I was little. I have always had many hobbies but it was rc cars that probably got me interested in suspension technology and then trucks. The best thing I have done in recent years was attending my first Inland Prerunners meeting! I have learned so much and met so many great people from those meetings. It is fun to be a part of something like United Prerunners, I'm sure Greg and Jen never thougth it would go from a few trucks jumping in a parking lot to several hundred members! If I was ever to get into racing it will probably be in the pits. Thats where my interests are, in the designing, building and testing of the trucks more then the actual racing. I always race against myself, building up my truck a little better and pushing it a little harder every time out. I don't need to prove that I am faster or better then someone else. As long as I try as hard as I can, I am happy with that. Thanks to all of you that make the off-road community such a wonderful group of people!

Hey my names Ryan and I'm 17, I work at Eckhart Trailer Hitchs in Oxnard were I'm a welder. Right now I'm working on building either a 7s or class 1400, since In don't know what the new motor rule will be for 7s. I bought this ranger(see the attachment)behind my parents back and am building it to prove that it can be done and that I want to race. It will hopefully be driving it on the street by the end of Aug. and be racing it by this coming May. At the moment the truck is just a frame with a motor and tranny, if you read the shop section you know that I'm boxing it in and I've been posting pictures and asking different questions. Sofar I've only gone to one race, the Kartek 400 and had a pretty good time, I'm going to try to get out to more races. See you guys on the dirt, when the beast is done.

If you want something bad enough, you'll do what ever it takes to get it.

Hey Jen! My name is Bill Schmitt (officially William F. Schmitt III). I am 31 years young, and live in the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I am married to wife Colleen who is an elementary school teacher. We have one son Will (William F. Schmitt IV) who's almost 2, and another unknown on the way in April. I work for Waupaca Foundry in Marinette, WI, as a Predictive Maintenance Technician. I take vibration readings, thermal image scans and oil analysis tests on our production equipment to try and predict failures.

I started out racing asphalt circle track, but got bored after 8 years of going in circles. I started racing Off Road in ’97 with the old SODA series in Wisconsin. I had a SODA Class 12 buggy. I ran that periodically until last year and sold it. Well, I practically gave it away ($1000 complete with spares) just to get it out of my shop to make room for my latest project.

Now, I’m building a ’99 Chevy Silverado Sportsman Stock Truck for the CORR Lucas Oil Series. I didn’t have the time or the money to finish it for this year, so I went to work for a friend of mine (Ross Hoek, #815) who races a Ford in the same class. I learned a lot about what I have to do on my own truck for next year. We ended the season 2nd in points, with 3 wins and 9 top 5’s in twelve races. And we were the first ever CORR Stock Truck to qualify for the big Borg Warner race last weekend in Crandon.

When I’m not racing I enjoy: being with my family, hunting (deer, pheasants, grouse, rabbits), fishing (walleye and trout), cooking (most of our meals), gardening (vegetables), and I do a little farming too (chickens & rabbits).

I ran DDay and have nothing but positive to say about the whole experience!! I built my truck with "bang for the buck" in mind. The I-beam idea was all I could think of since the other kits for the mini didnt offer much. I have pics and info if anyone is interested is talking or seeing my truck. I gotta say that this sport is great and hope everyone can keep on rocking. Anyone in San Diego..lets hit PV like it was 1999!

my name is Ryan Towry and i am 18 from Camarillo, CA, but i recently moved to Spokane, WA (a very cold desert) and have been riding dunes and motocross for 5 years and am now researching my new project, a 86 yota, so any toyota guys out there got secrets or weak poinnts (yeah right its a toyota, lol) you can PM me, i would much appreciate it, i also have to warn you all that i may ask alot of stupid questions because all i know about dezert racing is fast and sand so bear with me, thanks. by the way i have learned that it is hard to weld when it is 10 degrees outside, you have to be able to feel your fingers to weld, just though that might help someone, lol.

hi, i'm jim brannen. i am 27 yrs old, and i love off road motorsports. i had my first off road experience at palm avenue on an atc 110. (anybody remember palm ave.?) that was a long time ago. since then i have been off-road as much as i can. i work for ace parking in san diego, ca - parking is big business. i am trying to save some money so one day i can get a house, then the next thing on the list is a race car. right now, i drive a 1986 ford ranger 4x4 prerunner, built by perry mcneil. i have had it seven years now, and i can't say a bad thing about it. i really love the truck. i've taken it to all the races in baja that i can get to, and the same with fud races. i also like to drive it at glamis and occotillo wells. i have been looking at race-dezert.com almost since it's inception, and i can't believe i waited this long to join the discussion boards. i love the shop talk, and i am always learning. see y'all in the dez!

my names dustin franks, ive been addicted to RDC for way too long and i figured its about time i post my lil bio. im 20 years old and i got into the off road scene right about the time i started driving. i had a killer 93 F150 prerunner, and i recently bumped up to a 2001. its a serious work in progress but shes gonna turn out awesome. i go to cal state san marcos, and im a professional longboarder . I travel around quite a bit and get the occasional shot in the magazine(if you want check out the longboard mag cover for october 2002). im tryin to get surfing to pay for a tricked out prerunner but so far it aint hapenin. I spend a lot of time in mex which has kind of fuelled my passion for building a desert truck. i really wanna get a ride in a "real" race truck or prerunner to see what its all about, so anyone with such a vehicle ill offer you and your whole family free surfing lessons if you let me sit shotty for awhile. hehe, its worth a shot! -dustin

Who am I ...well let's see I've been alot of different things, but now I'm almost 36, married, 2 kids, and what does the dezert mean to me? Let's see.... I got married in the pits at the Johnson Valley 150 in August of 93 (La Rana) - now that should tell alot of you who I am, won the class 200 championship with that guy named "Jeff" from McKenzies in '94. BAM!! Now I'm just a guy who lives in Seattle and misses the dezert and lives vicariously through all of you who still get to go to the dezert on a regular basis; and trying to convince these Northwesterners that bulged fiberglass is NOT a bad thing - oh yes folks it's true - someone actually said that a pic of a Dakota with fenders looked liked a viper. Freaks!

Im Mike Clark, from Escondido, CA. I run a small fabrication business called ESB Fabrications, where i build bolt-on front suspension for toyotas. http://www.esbfab.com . im ALMOST 21, my trucks running right now (FINNALLY) after 2 years of work, and right now the plan is to sell that damn 4 cyl and drop a v8 in it. i raced motocross for a few years and still try to ride once in awhile, and have been into offroad trucks for about 4 or 5 years now. check out the website if your interested in building your toyota.

Well I guess I could introduce....myself. Better late then never. My name is Dave Tounget, I am 21and live in the toilet bowl of So cal....hemet, those who live here know what mean. I have been around race desert from the begining but a member for less than a year. My family puts on the Sand Drags in Southern Cali and will be doing a race on the infield at laughlin next month. As for me I work for Leager's INC and will shortly be the head welder. We make A-arms, swing arms, race chassis, etc for quads, 99% of the aftermarket kits out today are a copy of our work. In my part time I have a good sized fab shop that I and Larry Minors fab man share, everything is tiged and junk steal is never used, and as long as we keep to our moto of no junk we hope to someday be our own boss and a house hold name in desert racing.

Hope to meet all of the regulars around here some day.

OH well.. what the heck, I'll finally post on this subject. I'm Rob, 34, from Thousand Oaks,CA and work in Santa Monica,CA. I've been off-roading for over 10 years now and have been a spectator / participant of off-road racing almost as long. I've chased for VCDSA Racing in the Baja 1000 back in '98 and also helped support a friend of a friend for a number of MDR races. If it wasn't for my kids wanting to ride and a divorce, I'd probably own something worth racing right now. But instead, both my boys have bikes, I have a new bike and a new truck to haul all the toys. And the 89 Blazer sitting in my driveway is looking more and more like a toy to build and break every day. So for anyone in the SoCal area who needs a body to help support or chase, feel free to drop me a line. Might give me the motivation to put Deaver's on my Blazer, upgrade the running gear and cage the bloody thing. Cya in the dirt.

My name is Shane Boulay. I'm a 25yr old student at Wyoming Technical Institute going through the Chassis Fabrication and High Performance Engines program. I've wanted to be a High Performance Off-road Fabricator since I was twelve yrs old watching the VORRA Yerington 500 race from my backyard in the desert! I finally got tired of dreaming about how cool it would be, so I got off my ass and did something about it. I quit a $15 hr job to go to work at AOR (Advanced Off-Road Research) for $8 hr as an apprentice fabricator. I loved every minute of that job, I got to help build the Fireguys Racing 7s truck, and learned quite a bit there, but I've got big goals and after 9/11 the economy slowed down and they didn't have the work for me. I'd been busting my ass for a year and finally got a full scholarship to go to Wyotech, and it was the best decision that I ever made. My goal for school was to build a competitive 7open truck for my final project at school, which I am in the middle of building right now. I couldn't do this on a student budget so I spent six months drafting up a sponsorship proposal to help Wyotech students with their projects, and all the time and effort that I put into that has paid off more than I could ever say. I have been able to reach a lot of companies that are willing to help the students here with discounts and parts donations. but that is just the icing on the cake! I have made invaluable friends and contacts in the industry that I will have for the rest of my life, and that alone is priceless. I want to thank all of you that have helped me out, you guys know who you are! To top it all off, my 7 truck is progressing well and fabricating it all has taught me a tremendous amount, by allowing me to apply what I'm learning in school. It will also be my "rolling resume" when I graduate in two months and hit the job market. Thanks again, and hope to see you at the races by September if all goes right!
Shane
P.S. Hopefully John or Klaus will give me a title soon :)

Who am I? Good question. I'll try to stick to the important stuff. I live in Texas. I'm married, have 3 kids and my mother-in-law lives with me. I spent 6 years in California when I was in the Marines. That is where I first saw prerunner stile 2wd trucks. I thought they were stupid then (most of the ones I saw were pavement pounders). I came back to Texas and the company I went to work for gave me a F250 to drive. I had too much fun driving that truck down the dirt roads at 80+ mph. After that I watched a few desert and CORR races on TV. I remembered the pictures of the Ford Rough Riders team and I went out and bought me a Ford to build. A 77 F150 SuperCab. I then I went searching the net for ideas. I found a little board called Prerunners.net good board but full of kids. Someone on prerunners.net mentioned RDC. I learned more in one week reading post on RDC than I had in a year elsewhere on the net. Oh yeah my name Stephen Hall, but I go by Steve.

I don't live on the edge. I fell over long ago.

Hello, My name is James 'Harpo' Walker I'm 35 yrs. old have a great family and have lived in Barstow most all of my life. I've been involved in off-road racing for over 30 yrs. My father, Johnny Walker, along with several other businessmen, started off-road racing in Barstow in the early seventies. He also was the owner of several successful unlimited race cars all known as "The Spirit of Barstow" from 1971-1979. The first was a 1971 Funco SS1 and the last three were all Sandwinders. "The Spirit of Barstow" has had several well known drivers such as, Don Roundtree, Dub Smith, Bob Maynard, and Brian Skipper. The car won several big races and was very competitive. After my father retired (when I was getting old enough to drive) I began racing with J.D. Ward/Terry Jeffers in class 10 and 1/2-1600. We were always competitive and did fairly well for the budget we had to race on. During that time I also raced a Quad in the La Rana Desert Series winning the class championship in 1994. I'm now with the Rick Johnson/Rob Rinertson Protruck team. This is a great team with a great bunch of guys. So if you see one of us in our red T-shirts at the races, come say hi. I love to meet new people with the same passion that I have for this great & exciting sport of off-road racing.

Hey guys, I'm Preston Young with Cryo Science, first off let me tell you that we don't freeze dead people. But we do freeze engines, transmissions, disc rotors and pads etc...Below is a little bit on what we do, some of the baja teams we’ve cryo’d for and the benefits of our process. Let me know if you guys are interested.

We use the most advanced computer controlled cryogenic process to make your engine, transmission, brake pads and rotors etc… last up to twice as long, up to 50% increase in strength. Cryogenic treatment is the freezing of metals to -300 degree's for an extended period of time. This treatment can double the time between rebuilds for your performance engines and increase the strength of parts treated as much as 50%. Cryo metals are also a excellent dissipater of heat, so turbo charged and nitrous run cooler engines. For more information visit our website www.cryoscience.com. We're working on updating our website also.

We're located in San Diego (Oceanside) Calif. We cryo for H&M Offroad Motorsports-MDR class-7 Champions, Chris Wilson motorsports-1999 Class 8 Baja 1000 winner, Hammes Brothers racing engines- their engines won the Baja 2000 Protruck class and the Las Vegas Primm, Spirit-Racing/Race For The Children-They won the Vegas to Reno 500mi offroad and the Baja 2000 full-stock class.

hi all i`m Brian new to posting but i`ve watched the boards for a couple years now, I live in pennsylvania but my goal of moving to california will be fulfilled next month i`m 22 and a fabricator by trade, new to the desert racing scene living on the east coast i dont get to see much, just completed my first pre runner but it was sold to a man in havasu last week, most nights i can be found in my garage or at a track helping someone out, the pride i feel from seeing someone race and win in something i`ve built is more satisfying then anything i`ve ever experienced, i`ll be living in ventura so if anyone wants to hang out dont be shy. Would also like to get in with a race team to learn more about desert racing come on now who doesnt like cheap labor with skills http://www.race-dezert.com/vb3/attachments/old/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I have a 92 toyota pickup 4x4, with total chaos caddy kit, deavers and destroy shackles with sway aways. I got into prerunners about 4 years ago. Its not like san diego or anything where i live. Very few prerunners were out here at this time, theres a little more now though, but not much. I heard about prerunner trucks from, im not sure where, but from there i was hooked. Fixing my truck up since being 15. I go to and enter my truck into alot of the rialto events. Jump comp. etc. I love going to the dunes most out of all though. Ive got alot of people out here into prerunners, me and a couple buddys have started DESERT MAYHEM. you'll hear about it soon enough. We have stickers and shirts already with an awesome video editor also. I also love going to the lake to go WAKEBOARDING. I like riding QUADS too. Hello All!

I'm Wes in Paso Robles, CA, originally from Burbank, CA. I've been into off-roading since I was 12 every kind, bikes, several motorcycles, 2 Baja's, a '72 Blazer, and a 2 seat Sandmaster Panzer 2 seat desert buggy I bought in '78.

The first race I attended was the Mint 400 in Las Vegas in '81 or '82, and worked the check points the next 3 years. The picture by my name is my buggy after her 2nd rebuild my son was 4, now he's 25 and it's time for her next rebuild/upgrade.
I'm looking forward to being a part of this group, and maybe getting together sometime in Mohave or somewhere for some dirt play. (after the new suspension upgrade, of course... http://www.race-dezert.com/vb3/attachments/old/images/graemlins/wink.gif )

My worst days off-roading are still better than my Best days at work!!! (see attachment)

Take care...
