OK, basicly the title is a little confusing, but what I want to do is make a setup for my bike so that It can not be started without having a key in it. It is a 2005 honda crf250r. Right now it someone wanted to steal it or they could just jump on it and go basiclly. I thought of maybe having it wired to the kill switch or something so then you put your key in and turn it to the on position then kick start the bike, and when you get off just take the key with you. Make sense? Is this a good idea or is there already something out there that works better? I guess I could just get a cable lock too. Also, what is a good kickstand for my bike or do people even really use kickstands?

Don't waste your time with a key switch. It is more work than it is worth. Just run a cable thru the rims. Get a ProMoto Billet kick stand. They are the best. http://www.promotobillet.com/shop/item.asp?itemid=47

Ditto, exactly what he said!!! You could get a disc lock but the dirt bikes are so light you can still just carry them away. Are you going st. legal or something? It's nice to be able to throw a cable thru your bike and around a post or something pretty perminant... I'm a couple weeks from registering my CRF450 for the st. and really only plan on riding it to the convienence store or video store or something like that...

Kris, how hard is it to register in AZ.? I want to do my '05 and ride it here (Cali) off road with a plate instead of a red sticker.

I have a 93 DR-350 and I need the same deal with the key switch. It was originally a dirt version that someone had converted to street legal years ago.I was going to run a cable anyways but I would like to have a key just to deter the would be thief. On a side note anybody out there that is solid in skills to maybe do a tune up that won't take me to the bank? Thanks for any help.

At first I thought a key would be a good idea but now that I think about it I guess a cable lock works just as good or better. Thanks.
