I'm piecing together a hydraulic power unit for a tubing bender (JD2 model 4) and was wondering if anyone could advise me on what hp and psi range of unit to look for? I have been looking at Northern Tool (www.northerntool.com) for a unit, and they seem to have quite a few that range from $250-$450, all of which are 1600-2000psi and around 1hp -- is this sufficent to use for a tubing bender?
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Andy

Here's the unit I'm using on my bender. Not a JD but is like the one LeDuc builds using hossfield dies.

The only problem with that last set-up is it only puts out about 2500psi. This means you have to run a fairly large dia ram to get the tonage. Also that one looks like it will only go a little past 90*.

Just get a JMR mechanical... It is no sweat. That thing is bad to the bone. TRUST ME!

10,000psi, It's what all the Enerpac/SPX rams use. Somes with the dry brake hose and filled with fluid. Plug and play.
heres mine 2" bore ram w/ 2500psi pump will do 2"x .120 cromemoly no problem.the best part is 90bend in one shot.about 18 sec. for full extention.
