Wow man, you're early! We have to get through Primm first!
Can't really recommend you a good place to watch until we know where the course is going...

The race course has not been announced, so until then its just speculations on where to spectate. Once we know the route I am sure people will share the good spots on here.
On what to take over the border into Mexico. You may bring food, limited alcohol, no firearms and just personal belongings. You will be fine. Do some searches here and on google on Baja travel to get more detail. Ensenada is a large town with plenty of hotels. Over the years I always got a room locally on the event days without reservations. Just be prepared to go to a hotel a block or so away from the sightseeing.

About your question regarding border crossing with your girlfriends trailer, there's no problem, just have all registrations with you at the time of crossing, depending on how many days you plan to stay, if more than 3 you have to buy a tourist card, for each of you who cross the border it costs close to 20 dlls and you can get them at the border, or even in Ensenada, thats no problem.
Regarding the route of this years B1K, it will leave from Ensenada, then Ojos Negros, Then it will take a new road towards Pine Forest of Sierra de Juarez to a place called Cordillera de Molina, there it will get down of the pine forest to the Laguna Salada area, close to Mexicali, after that it will go towards south to cohabuzo junction, saldaña, chinero, borrego, and then to San Felipe, then again up north west towards San Matias, up to Mikes Sky Ranch, then to coyote ranch, down towards col. vicente guerrero close to Sto Domingo mission, after that back north towards rancho buena vista, and close to rancho Coyote again, then down by Simpson Ranch, Valle de trinidad, towards the pacific to San Vicente, Erendira, Sto. Tomas, Uruapan, then up to Ojos Negros by la Lagrima Hill, Tres Hermanos, Ojos Negros, and finally Ensenada.
Depending on your funds and if you would like to camp or be moving from one place to another to chase an specific car, there are a lot of places to watch the race, starting from Ensenada there will be the same jump in the wash as with the Baja 500, obviusly depending on weather, if the wash is full of water bye bye Jump, Ojos has a section of jumps very popular but you need to camp one night before the race, another good place is San Felipe, if you like the pacific coast also the road from Erendira to Sto Tomas it's great right on the beach and with a lot of places to ride your quads or bikes.

i am sure you will find plenty of spots to watch. good spots too, but i am not sure if you want to do it behind the wheel of a bike or a quad. especially if you want to go from spot to spot. an enduro i can see happening becouse it is built for the highway. me personally, we watch ojos negros, go to the goat trail to watch them again, maybe trinidad to watch them again, and so on. not sure how fun it would be to have to haul a trailer from spot to spot. my opinion.

hey umm...how old do you have to be to get across the border w/out a parent?
im taking my gf she 17? what do you need to get across?
oh and can i take my own gas? for like my dirt bike and quad?
pciscott
August 28th, 2005, 22:31
All you need is an ID to cross the border as long as you do not plan on flying home. Gas is a big issue, If you have a built in tank in the bed of your truck they do not hastle you. Any fuel even a 5 gal can is enough to get you in trouble. You can buy good gas in Ensenada, just expect to pay a few extra dollars per gallon than normal. Have a great time and be smart. I have been going on trips to Baja since I was 16 and I am still around, respect of the locals is also some good advice. I would rather be south of the border than any where else on the planet. Viva Baja!

Don't worry, after Ojos Negros the course is going trough Tres Hermanos way and then to Pine Forest (Sierra de Juarez), I mean, early in the morning .

Where would be a good spot to watch after Tres Hemanos that I could go to after they come through? WEll Ill know Ill be traveling on race course by then so I dont know if I can drive on the course but could I hit up some highway and go to the pine forrest? I know as we left tres Hermanos and went through the Old Compadre trail we did go through some pine forrest briefly. I just dont want to stay at tres hermanos and only see the race cars/trucks go through once.

Another question regarding Mexico. How are they down there about having true "street legal" cars. Our bug is registered and insured, but far from street legal. No front window, turn signals, mud flaps or fenders but we do have the basics like taillights/headlights and brake lights. Are the cops cool with us cruising that around on race weekend, or would it just be a hassle?
I have never taken our car down there, and while spectating the baja 500, we thought it would have be fun to take it down there.

USUALLY the Federales won't bother you. I drive my 4 seater all over the place down their and it's not even street legal. As long as you are obeying their laws and not being an idiot they PROBABLY won't mess with you.

Just make sure you buy Mexican Insureance before you cross the border. American auto insureance is no good down in mexico. And if you get in an accident without it, you will be in alot of hot water. I would also recommend getting the medical coverage added to you mexican insurance. My good freind just got in a bad wreck down in San Quintin and broke his neck. If he didn't have the medical on his policy, he would probably still be in the mexican hospital waiting for someone to come down and pay his bill (or much worse).

Here is whoI usually get it from, they are right before you leave to mexico going from San Diego it's the last exit it tell you all over the freeway that it's the last exit. There prices are good about 18 to 20 dlls a day. One time I was a bit under the mexican bug and I hit a car, they took total care of it.

I saw the map but it looked grainy so does anybody know how far south Santo Tomas is from Ensenada? Does the course go by it this year?
cosmo
October 10th, 2005, 20:39
Santo Thomas is app. 15 to 20 miles south of Ensenada on hwy. 1. Very easy to get to.The course should come down the hill and go right down the hwy.(heading north)to Urapan where it jumps back into the dirt(after passing thru the village). As for the Live Drawing, they are having a pit contest as well as other events? Someone help me out here.So I know they want YOU to come out and play. Hope this helps out.

I'd like to prerun with someone on the weekend of the 22nd from mile 400 thru Ojos Negros. Once during the day and once during the night. I was thinking to run Friday during the day, rest and run Saturday at night. I have a capable XR650R and should probably be able to download the course into my GPS by then. I'm a serious racer, have fun and get it done. I did the 500 a year and a half ago, leading MORE class 10 points and am in the 1000 this year. So, if you are capable, wth a good bike or car and would like some company, give me a call. Please only those who are informed and aware of what it takes to pre-run should call. Thank you. There are two places to purchase auto insurance in Calexico before you cross the border.YES! have all your bike etc. registration in order before you cross. It's usually not a big deal, they will want to look at the reg. #s on your bike and match them to your reg..Pallets,coolers etc. should not be a problem.Carrying fuel though, they actually made us turn around with our 5 gallon gas cans. They DID ask us to pour it into their own 55 gallon drum,no thanx. If you are not carrying much you might try "arranging" it on your trailer with your gear.Or,try saying it's two stroke(mixed with oil) that way they hopefully won't want it for their cars.As for spectating, find an access trail before(west) of the Zoo road as El Dorado is strict on access. travel about a mile in(all sand 4wd or quad/bikes) and you'll pick up the Powerline. That is the course as it heads into San Felipe. You'll also find teams pitting on the Old Puertocitos road as the course turns south.Easy to get to the Puer. Rd by going in on a dirt road (1/2 mile in) from the Pemex station above the sand dunes in town.Or go south about 12 miles to where the course is on the hwy before it jumps into the Matomi wash.Caution here as it will allready be getting dark and you will have to travel AGAINST race traffic someto get back to town! Have fun Go #1610 Jeff Quade!!

Tell me your not planning on burning the pallets.
Leaving the nails in the desert is no bueno for those that like to use it.
This last trip through on Thursday we didn't get stopped but the time before they were telling us we would have to pay an import tax and food was one of the items. In the end they charged the "import tax" on the spare off-road tires I brought down.
Course will parallel the highway to San Felipe so there are a ton of spots to watch if you want to get in with the bike or quad.
Have fun!!

Huh? "close and parallel to the hwy"?
Correct. Not sure what you don't understand from "huh" so I'll take a stab at it.
First you might want to pick up a map off the SCORE site.
Take a look at the San Felipe area just south of the junction of HWY 3 and HWY 5.
From RM210 to RM220 the course is "close and parallel to the hwy".
Better?
