Disclaimer: Just a couple of items I wanted to throw out there. I don't know if they are true or just talk so take it for what it's worth.

Pflueger landed Monster Energy Drink as a sponsor. Painting the truck black.

Simons making a return to the sport.

Anyone with more info??

Hmmnn...I liked it when Pistol painted the Speedway truck black. Very nice and that would be way cool if the Simons got back into racing again.

I'm pretty sure it was Rockstar. I know when I went to get a GPS download they had cases and cases of Rockstar and also a ton of hats that they were giving away.

Yum I love Rockstar and Jagger. When I go to the races Ill easily drink 4 cans of Rockstar in a night. I think that Rockstar is trying to sponsor more people as I was watching the UFC fight and Randy Couture was sportin Rockstar swag.

If the Simon's made a return that woud be effin great, they were always fast and put on a good show. The last race I saw them at was Laughlin 96 when we helped them roll the truck back over........ahh yes good times.

Okay, I'll bite. Are you seriously saying the Simons are getting back into racing or is this another "class 1 Ferrari testing in Barstow" joke. If it's true, PAB is going to have to give up his #16 on the TT so the Simons can have it back, just wouldn't be the same with a different # on their TT! What has anyone heard on this?

Where is this skepticism coming from? I'm sure that no one would make up a lie that this on Race-Dezert, that's what the Cheeze is for.

On a serious note a friend of mine suffered from a mild stroke, fully recovered, from drinking Monster/Red Bull energy drinks and Starbucks all the time. The doctors told him they will play havoc on your blood. So be careful how much of them you drink at one time and how often you drink them. He drank it all day long like they were water, so just be careful. I love them as well but will tone down on the amount I drink as well as how often.

I'll second that.......used to drink two Monsters a day (obviously too much) and I started getting panic attacks about 15 minutes after I finished one!!!!!!

They're great drinks but only in certain quantities.......

When Red Bull first came to the US, I had unlimited access to the product. I used to drink them all day long. Not ever taking the time to read the label.
One day, I decided to not drink them at all, for no reason. For the next two weeks, I was in a fog. I had a hard time maintaining a task, and just felt lethargic.
You've gotta be careful with what you put in your body.

It is too bad that Alan Pflueger, who used to be a regular participant here, decided to lay low and not post anymore after the controversy about the Helicopter/jack incident at last years Primm and the Baja 1000 chase problems that followed. He was an asset to the board, sorry to have lost him!:(

I hope it's true about the 28 truck's deal but I believe the 400k number is totally unrealistic. You could be the title sponsor of the Score series for years with those kind of numbers and get tons more PR than ever sponsoring a single vehicle. I'm sticking with Red Bull the King of Energy Drinks because of it's quality contents and it works. You get what you pay for.

I heard this from someone who has ties to a couple of parties involved in the making of this deal. I am not saying it is 100% true, just the last thing I heard of the deal. I thought it was kinda high myself, but I am not going to call this person a liar just yet. And yes, Steve's old truck has already been back-halved and is sporting Pro comp colors. Word has it Travis is looking for a different sponsor though.

Unfortunately they were run off by rude posters. The staff of RDC has always tried to maintain a higher quality of posters. I know we have lost a lot of "contributers" but not one of them has stopped reading. Our readership is HUGE and no matter where I go or who I talk to they comment on a current topic on the board. If you guys only knew who was reading this daily you would be suprised. That is why when things get posted on RDC that are concerns, changes are made and topics are addressed by the appropriate people. I feel we still are the place to go for current information on desert racing.

For the sake of the post, lets pretend it’s true, and $400k is the number.

Steve S makes a point that you could sponsor the series for that type of $$ is true, but depending on the goals of the sponsor a car might be a better deal. Pictures of the truck on a Monster can, TV commercials, point of sale displays showing the truck make more of an impact for this type of product. The money Target is spending could easily get them title sponsor ship for several races in a couple of series.

You could race the Indy 500 yourself for less $ in a pretty competitive ride, or just sponsor a car for a fraction. The 500 this year reached 300 million + households in 200 countries. If every man women and child in Mexico watched the Baja 1000 the viewership would be a 100 million people. So if this deal is true, my guess is someone sees something in desert racing that makes them think it will sell some main stream products.

So if it’s true, why the 28? Maybe they spent money for a professional to go find a sponsor, or maybe
Mr. Monster drinks kid drug him to see D2G and he liked it so much he called his advertising agency and had them look into the sport. So Mr. Ad agency guy goes to a desert race in his Lexus to see if there is any one there that looks like they could promote a product. If you’re a marketing company at a race that doesn’t know jack about off road racing, what team sticks out?
Sure a large budget helps, but the obvious things about the 28 truck is not that big of a deal to pull off.

The truck photographs well because of a great paint job, so it gets photographed more. If your truck is white (sorry Robbie) Mr. Ad Agency walks past you to the 28. The paint is probably more than a reasonable desert racer would spend but maybe not that much more. The crew is always matchy-matchy too, but that doesn’t cost much. Their driving suits match, and they did even before they had a Alpinestars logo on the truck too. The 28 is fast, but they don’t win every race, it’s about the show to sponsors.

However the deal goes down, AP was sharp enough to put the paper part of the deal together, which is usually the hardest part.

So this long-*** post really doesn’t have much of a punch line, except I would take this deal and turn it into one of your own. If it’s true…

Well put. I am not trying to start ridiculous rumors on this forum. I just heard this from someone I consider to be a pretty reliable source. Offroad racing is getting bigger and bigger each day. Just look at all the new race cars and trucks out there, not to mention all the media coverage it is getting compared to recent years past. $400k, although a huge number and somewhat hard to believe, may not be that far fetched. I once watched an interview with Robby, and he said when you factor in all your regular race expenses and all the logistics to race the Baja 1000, you are looking at well over $500k to race. And that is just 1 race! Whether the $400k number is true or not, it is a small slice of what a team spends to race a trophy truck for an entire season. I say, good luck to Monster Energy and Team Pfleuger. See you in Primm.

Thats not a very fair comment.... I don't think you could find a nicer group of people in racing than the Pflueger team. That team is all about the fans. Everyone of them is totally approachable for any questions that you could have about the truck or team and go out of their way every time for the fans to get the picture that they want, the posters, the stickers, or the autograph they desire. Best of all.... that team is there because of their love for the sport and their desire to be apart of a team that is more like being a part of a family.
