Hey Guys

I was wondering if anyone has any more accurate info of the course, for a Garmin GPS unit, asides from what the Score site has? I have a Garmin 276C and the only info giving on the Score site that can be downloaded to my unit is in 5 mile increments with only the RM as waypoints.

Does anyone have or know how to convert the very detailed Lowrance file with all of the info, so that it can be used in a Garmin unit?

Does the lowrance files give you info on the actual course?

Thanks

The best GPS is the pre-run , or call Scott at PCI he would know the low down on
GPS formats, and sometime before the 1000 he will have downloads of the course,
as a matter of fact I do believe he's having breakfast in ensenada this morning.

Thanks Guys

I was able to get all the course data, but my GPS keeps truncating it when i upload it and it cuts out 50% of it.

Thanks

Thakns Jerry

I got all of the waypoints into the 276c but i cant get the tracks.

The 276c holds 3000 waypoints but is also supposed to hold 10,000 point track logs, so in theory loading this should be a problem.

As of now, i have the entire track log in my computer in my Mapsource software, but when i try to transfer it, it truncates it to only 700 pts

Any ideas?

Thanks

The track log size from score with the lowrance are borrego-san cruz 9907 points, oasis thru mud flats, 1012 points, san cruz-stadium, 9992 points, start to borrego 9709 points.

Looks like it might be time to get another unti! :D

When using OZI, how do you open the .usr file or the .low file?

Thanks

I use the 276 in the car along with a lowrance 5000 c, The 5000 let's you see the track aka course turns. PCI take's the units apart and glues a board inside of it. You can also use it to find fish! Good luck!

Hey Jerry

I just figured most of this out, it can be done, but its fairly time consuming, if your interested, shoot me an email: speicher@san.rr.com and i will email ya the steps on how to get the track into the garmin unit. Its kind of a PITA

He is the gist of how to do it via the Score instructions. Works pretty good but needs to be tweaked a bit:

If the Track size is too large to fit into your unit do the following.
· With The track control open and a file loaded into track one, click on the small "+" symbol and the click on track filter.
· Select track 1 and another empty track position.
· Select the maxiumn size points your unit can handle for one track.
· Click Ok. Presto. Your new track has been configured. You will no see it listed.
· Double click on the new track, rename it and save it.
· Move the correct size track for your unit to position(track) 1 and continue with item 6 above.
· If all else fails, Oziexplorer has a pretty good help file.

A heads up for anyone interested, Larry @ LB Maps has done the leg work of converting these from Lowrance into Garmin and has them for download on his site.

I just downloaded them and put them into my Mapsource software and they are very detailed

now that would be cool..

Topo USA lets you do most of that if your in the states, to do it for mexico you would have to import GIS data

You can import and export GPS data into Topo USA-5, you can use it on a PC or a handheld like pocket PC, i think you can overlay satalight photo data also.

Thanks for the info and images Chuck! Delorme has a good thing going, that 3d Imaging is amazing! They have great software if your running a laptop in your rig as well, we used to use it in Jeeps trekking through the woods of New England!

I think i found what i need for what i am doing, but as i get into racing more, i will be looking for more detail such as the maps above. I am a Land Surveyor by trade, so access to GIS stuff is fairly easy!

Its pretty cool software, you can run a GPS track from trial view or above or anything in between, an amazing number of trails and dirt roads are allready in the map software, i have looked up places i have been and found trails i didn't even know where there and later went and checked them out.

Its an excellent tool for pre running on the PC and getting a feel for the land layout, it would also be good for rescuing broken down race cars by finding access points.

Checkout the forums to see all you can do.
