Mike,

See the other post from Steve(SMD) Give them and PCI a call, i am going to do the same for our trip. Also I have international service on my Nextel, worked pretty good for the BajaMex 300 in 2003.

For the 1000 last year, I had both Iridium and Globalstar and neither one gave
reliable service. Lots of network busy, call dropped, etc. Maybe so many racers
where using them it overlaoded the system. Whatever.

A couple weeks ago I used the Globalstar several times down there and same deal.
Calls dropped. Took many tries to get through, etc. But eventually it worked
and was better than nothing.

I have 1 Iridium and a bunch of Globalstars .. but we rent / sell Globalstar and i carry a Globalstar.. both are like cell phones of 15 years ago. a bit frustrating at times..

But Globalstars work with a lower orbit sat system so it is some what better. (less distance for signal to travel).

I also have been using a tel cel prepaid but this past weekend tried a Movistar and was very pleased it had coverage in Valle T and in and out to 3 poles to Ensenada.

Sat phone tips.. make sure it can see the horizon.. no leaving it in the seat of your pu and wonder why it does not work.

Put the antanae UP (unfolded)

Because sat's and cell's are hit and miss i highly recomend a "relay or Disaptch" person in the USA to be a clearing house. maybe you got a signal and call out but the guy you are calling does not.. so it saves a lot of time to just call a USA relay person to be messanger and "last known position, and where you are going to next" relay.

If you get a Sat Phone activate your Voice mail and prerun how to use it before you go to baja.

Shannon @ AWI rents and sells, 858 650 3456 or Scott @ PCI sells...

if you have any more specific questions feel free to e-mail me..

--We use voicemail from our cell phones and leave messages for each other...giving time, location, plans, etc.. Your chase crew can always check their cell phone voicemail with the SAT phone.
