The letter I have from Dominic Clark on behalf of SCORE says it's NBC, but I'm sure if you are looking you are going to find it. I also discovered that OLN is showing the 98 (or 99, not sure now) BAJA 500 in the evening tomorrow. I think it was 5 and 7, but again, you can figure that out by looking. Since I'm at work I can't figure it out now.

In case you missed it you didn't miss much.

Highlights:
- Corky McMillen got mentioned. The team driving the car in memory.
- Incredible helicopter shots
- Jason Baldwin got honored towards the end of the broadcast
- Some nice shots of Robby Gordon pushing his way towards the front.
- Nice Cameron Steele onboard shot.

Lowlights:

- More interviews then race footage. The amount of interviews shown would work fine for a 3-4 hours show.
- One hour broadcast is too short too show a 700mile race
- Where are the killer ground shots from Borego, Zoo road, Ojos, The Summit etc ?
- Narrating mistakes, Cars become Trucks, Names get mixed up.
- If I wouldn't know better only 5 Trophy Trucks, 2 Class Ones and 3 bikes raced.
- After every commercial break time gets wasted of a recap of what happened.
- The race started in Ensenada and ended there, but where did it go?

Sure, I can pick it apart too. Who can't? But, overall, it was a good thing. I'm glad to see one of the major networks stepping in and putting off-road racing into the lime light.

I fired off an e-mail to NBC Sports to let them know as much. I didn't quibble over details. If they receive enough positive remarks, maybe they will try again.

Come on guys... NBC Saturday Worldwide... I give NBC a thumbs up for getting offroad racing back on tv. Something is always better than nothing. Maybe some of you none sponser racers can pick up on this and get some sponsers. My highlights were Bebo's interview, Baldwin's 3 wheel motion, BJ's axle @ speed, Robby being Robby, Scott what course were you on and of course Corky and Jason godspeed. To everyone involved on getting this out on NBC and everyone else great job! By the way tonight on OLN 7pm Baja 500. Thumbs up to OLN also. Cya @ New Years Dunaway Dash- Go Bebo TT

You mean SCORE has more classes than an open motorcycle class, TT and CL1 ?

I totaly agree with you. All of us can pick this apart was well as we can D2G if we wanted too. The point is, desert racing is getting mainstream media coverage. Sure it was mostly TT, Class one and Bikes, but that's what it will take to get people to check out the sport and start to explore the other classes.

Hopefully this will bring us one step closer to bringing some money into the sport. I know for the most part we all do this for the love of the sport. It's not like were doing it for the money. It would be nice to be able to offset a little more of our expences.

I also agree....BUT I have seen post on other boards from local 4x4 guys about d2g and today's NBC show that have a very positive tone and if that what these shows are doing .....opening up others eyes to this wonderful sport....then they are worth the time and effort....

I think we all agree that any TV coverage is better than no TV coverage. With that said, it's OK to be critical of the errors made during the show. Feedback, and yes, that includes negative feedback, will help make future shows even better. Not that this is feasible, but how about releasing a really nasty 160x120 video demo (with full audio) before the actual television release for a select group of racers to watch. Errors could be found before it airs.

From a purely professional standpoint, how can something make it to air with so many obvious to us errors?

The TV show while not perfect and even Sal mentioned frustration last night about certain things especially the color commentator comments.. (4x4, Class 1 Cars called trucks etc.) at the SCORE Awards Banquet, the show is a huge step for Off Road Racing Sport!

We need to be THANKFULL 1st.. to NBC, & Sponsors, then constructively positive in our critique & comments and we need to put them in writing to SCORE and Aurora..

I think it was a HUGE improvement over Baja 500 show.

We need to also suggest off road industry / sport figures to do color commentary in the future, like… say……… Cameron Steele..

Klaus, Desert Bull, anyone do you have the proper / correct e-mails, FAX, Address’s of where to send our comments to???

I fall under the "anyone" classification, but I sent my comments to sports@msnbc.com. Received a reply "Thanks for your interest...and your comments. Your [comments] will be forwarded to the appropriate editor... ." I don't know if there's a shortcut, but this one is an address that I've used successfully before.

Tivo + "Record Keywords" = BAJA-TECATE-SCORE-CORR and your all set, you will never miss an offroad show or race on TV again! :D

It was great to watch! Sure, there were a few mistakes but its not something NBC does every day, week, or month. They will get the hang of it!

Its a huge step in the right direction!

I am only a spectator/fan, but I also agree someone from the offroad community should be doing the commentary!

While there's not a big list of qualified producers to do justice to off-road racing, nonetheless, I'm thinking of several and at least one company; FXF Productions, that could have offered ten-times better coverage and narration than what we just saw.
It's the first time that I can think of, that I actually turned the TV off out of frustration.

It's incredible that at this late age in our sport we are still dealing with amateurs. It's not like our entry fee is only $38.00, so that we get in-kind TV coverage.

There are no more amateur racers and teams in a Baja 500 or Baja 1000 races. Theses are professional people investing huge amounts of dollars, and they should at least get equal professional coverage.

Sorry, the "GO-Pass-Jail" card was issued long ago.

I cant beleve the negateve feed back!!

WHO CARES if they call a buggy a truck, trucks and cars 4x4s or drivers riders. The truth is, the person who knows nothing of this sport, now does. Someone who does not know anything is not even going to notice the mistakes and for those of us who do, correct the people you are watching the show with. Easy, problem solved.

I was called by two people who just happened to see the show and told me they had no idea. They probably thought I raced "Monster trucks", sandrails or "Dune buggys". So I say good job NBC you got the point across.

I actually liked the show. How about the Robby footage & commentary of that sequence it was quite entertaining.

I hope no one from NBC reads this thread and they continue doing what they are doing for the sport of 4x4 racing!!

Thats just my 2 cents

It was much better than the 500, and even though they can't show all the classes, I think they did a good job of covering some of the stories that happen at a race like the Baja 1000. Even though they didn't have too many high energy action shots, I think the coverage should appeal to more of the general public.

I think they did a great job. If I was wearing a hat it would be off to them. My take on the 4x4 and truck comments are them trying to make sure the audience differintiates between 4wheel vehicles and the motorcycles, and not by just using classes that only "we" would understand.
It was great to see the interviews, the history with BFG, and the locals. It was awesome to see Chad running so good with the top dogs of the sport. When the truggy pulled into the stadium you can see the excitement in the team and Troy and that gave me chills.. I hope we get to watch every race on TV. I will be sending a thank you to both NBC and aura360.

I thought they did a decent job. When you take an announcer and ask him to announce about something he has no clue about that what you get. Face it, it was on National TV across the US. Pretty good for a South Western series. It just sucks that the last 2 major telecasts have had memorial's at the end of them.

I just watched the 1000 on OLN it was ok but the coverage was very poor. They didn't cover anything but fluffffffff for the marketing guys. They didn't even mention or show the problems at the summit. Is it just me but most of the race was decided by who could get through the summit the fastest without any damage. Well at least they tried.
