Toyota announced their race teams for next years NASCAR races...a Napa car driven by Michael Waltrip, a Caterpillar car driven by Dave Blaney and a Red Bull car, rumored to be driven by Robby Gordon...Now given his relationship with Chevy and Hummer this struck me as kinda odd...but who knows...maybe next year it will be the Jim Beam Land Cruiser in the Dakar!!

There's an article on Nascar.com also where they rumored Robby as part of Team RedBull, the other rumor is Kevin Harvick joining him as well. The '06 season hasn't even started and I'm already looking forward to next year!!

Hmmm...I'll have to go look at that...figures it would be a maverick like Robby that would join on with Toyota and not give a damn what others may think about it...Good for him if it comes to pass...

This would be huge for Robby, He is a bottom feeder for GM money even with the H3 program as compared to the other GM teams. Toyota/Red Bull will infuse major dollars, he could always buy out of the GM deal with tons of money to spare. To Red Bull it makes sense, Robby is it's most reconizable driver in North America and he has a shop and cars that can be retrofitted with the Toyota body. The hang up is if Robby doesn't finish in the top 35 in 06 it makes it more difficult to get in in 07 and you start from scratch.

True, but the good thing for Robby is running DEI motors this season. He used them for the last two races of '05 and had a top 15 and a top 10 finish. I'm looking forward to him having a top 20 finish this season and sweeping both road courses:D

So, why would RG go from being a team owner running GM to being a driver for a Red Bull owned team running Toyota? Just because Red Bull is running Cup doesn't mean RG will be a part of it. RG was not part of the multi million dollar Red Bull VW Dakar team this year to no effect on his off-road program.

The Chick that runs Toyota's marketing loves Robby. But I do have a feeling that we will know much, much, more AFTER the Honda 500 in May.

If I remember correctly Volkswagon asked Robby to come back for this years Dakar. But he declined so that he could put his own team together. Also on his Dakar truck he had a small Red Bull sticker on the side and he was wearing a Red Bull helmet.
Also from what I understand about Red Bull on large budget programs thay are always owner/partners. Like Red Bull F1, Red Bull Cheaver IRL team. So maybe the Reb Bull #83 Nextel cup car will be all Red Bull and the other could be the Red Bull Gordon team. I would have a hard time beliving Robby would be willing to let John Story go in order to have Red Bull's Marty Gaunt be the team's general manager. Also I would assume Red Bull would want both cars under on roof, and Robby has is own shop which he plans to expand in the future.
Just my thoughts

I belive that Robby has a personal services contract in place with Red Bull. Look what Dale Earnhardt did, He raced for RCR and owned DEI, car ownership is where it's at. If he finishes in the top 35 at the end of the year, I would think that he would transfer the 7 points to the 83 and run a second car as a partnership with another driver, with his other current sponsors with a different number, but who knows for sure. I just wish him the best for 2006 and hopefully a top 20 points run.

None of this ever made sense to begin with but everyone just ran with the speculation...........why would RG change horses midstream after working so hard to build what he has? The old adage rings true, if you hear hoofbeats, it's probably just a horse and not a zebra.

That is true, why would he change when he is already having a tough time getting going with what he has.
However, if the DEI motor program plays out and the rest of the team is up to snuff, than I wouldn't put switching bodies and motors for next year as; not an option.
