I have an MC1 4210 with a 4200 module (& 009 dist) on a high-compression 1600 vw. I'm not sure if its wired correctly (or module is bad) because I can rev over 4200. Engine's running fine but there does not seem to be any difference in performance whether the MSD is connected or not. Would there be a noticable difference? Current wiring: Red to hot side of solenoid, Black to trans ground, White to hot side of coil. Thats it, all other wires are taped up. Is this correct?
Thanks,
G.

Found an old wiring diagram. Mine is not installed correctly. Any reason for just the white wire to coil? Any reason not to install correctly? Will I be able to tell a difference?
Thanks.

My one and only experience with VW ignitions was the owner bought "stock" bosch points, which actually have rev limiters built into them. Had to get a high-rev points and voila. Don't know if that's your problem or not, just thought I'd mention it.

Also with any CD style ignition like an MSD you can close up the gap to around .005" as there is not a lot of current flowing thru the points with a CD ignition so no chance of burning up the contacts. This will give the MSD/coil more saturation on time increasing spark energy at the plug. This will allow for a firing a bigger gap and better ignition/power characteristics.

we used to use the points with the white tracers on them, maybe rabbit points??

I like to use the per-lux ignitor instead of the points. Nothing to wear out and the msd liked it just fine.
