I think the name "Hummbuggy" the guys over on the Robby Gordon NASCAR site use is more appropriate than little monster. The GM ad campaign for the H3 says the little monster is named “Trevor”.

Why do NASCAR people say "gas on"?? Did some body turn it off?

I really thought that robby had it this year. Out of all the cars robby probable had the fastest.

Actually the Hummbuggy was quite a bit slower than the Mitzus and the diesel VWs! If you think RG had it this year you've been listening to too much RG hype, and need to do more research on the Dakar. The Dakar is much more about stratigy and team work than mashing on the pedal and driving agressively RG style. RG was lucky to get as far as he did and was a long way from even finishing the event.

Craig, just one person's opinion.

Care to place bets for 07 yet?

Has Mark signed? LOL

Let me say that both Mark Miller and his teammate Ryan Arciero will be making exciting announcements soon. It would be improper for me to discuss their business prior to them going public. I will also say that I’ve been told there will be a press/media event when the announcement is made. I’ll wait until then to place my bet. I don’t want to take advantage of you again, it was a sucker bet.

My guess is I don't think Red Bull and VW will be together for 07 and I'm sure the Nitto program will be cool. It will be cool rooting for a second AMERICAN team. I can't wait to see what unfolds. Very Cool. Any Idea how long we will be stewing?

And, yes I will still give you the 12 hours. It will be your turn to fork over the hundred bucks . LOL

So let me get this straight, for $100 you'll take Rubby with a new untested team, against Mark, Dirk, and a team that even got Rubby across the line, AND youl'll give me 12 hours? I'll take that bet. Loser gives the money to Malcom Smith for the orphanage in Valle de Trinadad.

Change that "new untested team" to team that has yet to finish, and you've got the same deal as last year.

So Fly, what are they going to call the Humbuggy when it gets re-configured as a Toyota?

OMG I've seen a couple of those on the fwy, they are just plain FUGLY. That curved windsheld looks like it came of a an old Sabb 900.

Fugly is an understatment.

I'm pretty sure RG will still have the Hummer for January.

On the tight trails of Europe, yes. But out in the desert of africa, where you could put the pedal down, it was smokin those little rice burners. Too bad it broke, or it would have been at the top of the mountain.

What's this about Toyota? The Hummer is just way too sic to change it to Toya!

No actually, out in the desert of Africa the combination of the FIA mandated restricted intake on the big gasoline V-8 and the heavy weight of a fully loaded Hummbuggy left it slower than your so called rice burners. Both the German ones and the ones made in Japan. A prime example was Stage 6 from Tan Tan to Zouérat. The stage was flat and fast at full throttle all day with no problems reported by RG. The best the Hummbuggy could manage was 11th place. The competition simply walked away from the restricted V-8. There was a good reason Fly got to thinking about intake manifolds and crankshaft design needed to improve the Hummmbuggy’s HP.

Yup, RG could have used another 125hp. I think RG will have a much better showing this year knowing what he knows now and even from it's first day out testing. He did pretty good last year right out of the box all things considered. But, looking back I think a great deal of the performance came from the driver's seat rather than the overall car's performance. It WILL BE way better this year. Team, Car the package as a whole.

Fly you are so......so......so optimistic! And yes he did leave room to improve didn’t he? I don’t know, with all of RG’s NASCAR woes he may be getting spread a little thin. Maybe he should concentrate on doing one thing right rather than being “Flash Gordon” for the fans & media in a bunch of stuff.

Craig...Did you ever think that NC doesn't want or need RG involved too much in the Cup day to day opperation? Trust me when I say...It's a good thing that RG has other hobbies. Just like all the other Cup drivers. just because it is Robby Gordon Motorsports doesn't mean that RG has to make sure the floors are sweeped.

I really know that RG is going to smack the crap out of the racers this year in Dakar. He has had many months of lost sleep and time to think about what will need to happen for this year. In true Robby form...He has won in everything he has raced and he will win Dakar. Period the End.

All the while, VW will just polish their turd.

He may have posted an 11th, but I'm sure he had to pass countless cars and bikes and drive in dust the whole time after his hub problems on stage 4, while the top guys were already up there in clean air pulling farther away. Didn't he go from 130th-something to 69th on stage 5? That's friggin fast.

For power, doesn't FIA mandate a 500hp limit on the car class? I thought that's why he wasn't pulling enough power, even with the smog limitations.

Ahh... it goes like this when racing in the dirt... only the one guy in the lead doesn't have dust. Those 10 guys that beat RG all had the same dust except the one in the front.

Fact is there wasn't a single stage where he didn't lose time to the winner. In your "friggin fast" stage 5 he was 19th friggin fastest for the day. His best finish was a 5th place on stage 3 where he was still 1:30 behind the leader. So even though he was jumping around in the back of the pack from you say 130th to 69th, he was still backing up compaired to the top 5.

He wasn't pulling enough power due to the restricted intake diameter. If you know of some horsepower limit, please provide a link as I couldn't find it in my FIM rule book.

There is no HP limit. Only an air restrictor.

I saw this Toyota at the "Motor Trend Car Show" here in Vegas.
Interesting interior.
However, I was disappointed to see that some of the parts on the outside were plastic.

Honestly, to be stock, it didn't look like it would hold up to long on 4 wheel drive terrain.

To clear this up, There was never a HUB PROBLEM. the problem was with the transmission drive flange. In fact the hubs remained untouched/unprepped throughout the entire testing sessions, the trip to dakar, and even the win at Parker.
