Couldn't you get to drive a Toyota Challenge car in the event for less than that?

The Bowler Wildcat appears to be a custom build using Land Rover Discovery components:

Mike Kay is offering seats in his F350 moto assistance truck. I'm sure his price is reasonable. More info:

These aren't in the race, but follow the assistance route to all bivouacs. My guess is for ~$10,000 entry (per person), plus ~$6,000+ for a seat in an assistance truck, you can go see Dakar.
