I hear allot about different gear ratios to do rock crawling and other things. What should my gear ratio be for a daily driver that I use for some offroading or for desert racing? (If I ever get out west.) The truck is a 4x4 and I have 32x12.5x15 BFG All Terrains.

4.88 gears are the right gears for regearing your truck to stock with 33's. I wouldn't go to much lower if you are not going to rock-crawl it or run bigger tires, 5.29 are good for 35" tires

4.88 was what I was thinking about but I wasn't sure.

Ya go with 4.88. I have the same truck and tire size on right know. I tryed 4.56 before the 4.88 and they were not that good you couldn't keep the truck in the right rpm range with them. Then I put the 4.88's in and I was amazed at the diffrence.

What kind of difference did you notice? Did your truck seem to handle hills better?

Yes with the 4.56 you would be winding out the truck or constintly down shifting to retatin your speed know with the 4.88 I can leave the truck in gear and not be winding it out or down shifting all the time, not bad for a little 4 banger at 212k.

Roughly how much would a shop charge to change out the gears to 4.88?

4.88 is the magic number for yota gears with your application. As far as cost, you should have at least one redneck buddy out there in Missouri that can slam them in for you, it will save you a ton of cash.

Oh I know a few backwoods guys that could do the work. But how much does it cost for the parts? Should I just order them from LCEngeering or another company?
