I have been eating up Polished Centerlines on my 1600 car,and have been replacing them with new. I was told that I should not toss them because there are places that can straighten them out and look new again for 20/25 a rim...?

Who should I call? I was told that there was a place in Palmdale?

Thanks,
-BRENT!

I have heard of some place around the Bellflower area?

Since the subject of bent aluminum rims is the topic, has anyone ever used dry ice to forge the bends out?

I have heard the aluminum needs to be cooled to be bent better, maybe a strength issue? I was hoping to hear from some one that knows.

Eddco is no longer around. Ed's dad Carlos Orosco owns U.S. Wheel Polishing and straitening in El Cajon. Carlos also runs Baja Pits. There is Rameros Wheel Polishing in El cajon that can fix them too.

Better yet, ditch the Centerlines and get some BTRs. We used to destroy Centerlines as well. I think we almost had more bent rims than flats. No bent BTRs yet.

Give Gary a call at B&R Buggies in Oceanside. He has a guy in Santee that does it. His name is Carlos. I dont remember the name of the place though. I use him all the time.

I know of a place called DR Johns in Aneheim that does motorcycle rims(aluminum street bike rims) and I believe he might do car rims or what ever rims you need done. I don't have his number but I have called information before and got his number in the past.

Since the BTR's were brought up, does anyone know if BTR is stilling going to make a 16x4 Wheel? That seems to be the most common wheel in the class these days, at least on the front.

yeah, I am running the 16x4's as well. I like the look of the BTR's, but figured they would shatter instead of bend?

Thanks for all the input guys. I called the place on MORE's site ( Straightline), and they did not have anyone answering phones today. Guess I will call Carlos.

Thanks,
-BRENT!

LIGHT BULB!

Here is a picture of one still holding air after a miss cue on my part. If this would have been a beadlock the sidewall tear would have been successful.

Please keep it a secret.......

you can make a shoe and then get a jack out of a floor jack and bend them back your self it helps to put wheel in sun for half a day and when putting presure on wheel do it slowly do not use torch to heat wheel and is best to have about 5 lbs in tire .you can make the shoe from a old steel wheel or bend a piece of .120 wall tube and modify it from there

Is anyone cutting off the lip and putting on beadlocks?

I know there are many perspectives on wheels, but the one I've always gone by is..... w/ lighter racecars- 1600's, etc., go with Centerlines. They may not be as good looking as the forged wheels, but as we've seen, they bend instead of break. Alot of times still holding the tire on w/pressure and not pinching the sidewall. If you take a centerline and put a beadlock on it, I think you'll be losing this feature on that wheel.

I have not been using beadlocks, but the "fast guys" have. They are getting much more "life" from their wheels. For short course stuff, they seem to last longer with a beadlock. Desert racing is different, when you hit a "gotcha" there...

I have a bunch of bent rims, SACO, Duralite, Centerlines... all in need of straightening, but holding air fine. I would like to get them fixed while in Chula Vista after the races.

How about when it is bent so far that the lug nut is not accesible...?????

I'll second Carlos from Baja Pits. He has straightened everything I have ever given him. He even polishes them. B&R Buggy in oceanside also offers wheel straightening.

Carlos does an awesome job. Our only problem was that it took forever to get wheels back. We just sent 6 wheels to Straight Line and were told that it would be about two weeks, so we'll see.
