...I'll try not to make this too long.
I currently have my engine at a shop, but i'm looking for someone else. I need someone out of so cal, and obviously someone that builds motors FOR off-road racing. If anybody does rebuilds and performance work to engines or knows anybody in the business just let me know. I know nothing is cheap, especially with getting more HP out of a engine. oh yeah, its a 460CI Ford.
thanks,
Morgan

Don't know how far your willing to travel, but Total Performance does good work with Ford engines at a reasonable price. They are located in east county San Diego.

I know the feeeling. If you have big bucks, you can use any of the above named guys. I am sure there good.
I got with Speed O Motive a few years ago and I have been really happy with them. The best part is that they are vary affordable.
When I was walking throu there shop, I asked about some of the big named off road engine builder like Patton and Shaver. the shop guy there walked me over to there CNC room and there must have been a dozen blocks labed there for both companies for machine work.
Googel Speed o motive to find them. There in Covina.

thanks everyone.
I wasnt sure if anyone was gonna help me out. Dalton, my engine has actually been at Speed-O-Motive for about a month all torn apart. I havent really checked other builders out, but looking at the money already given to them and the quote for the rest of it, I just want to make a few calls. George is the owner there and my neighbor hooked me up, but anyways thanks for the help you guys. I'll post a update or a dyno video when the time comes here.

All the engine builders mentioned above, are mucho $$$$$$$. I have gone through every 'FORD" performance engine builder in San Diego county, and there is only one. And he is not price of the guys above. Greg at TOTAL PERFORMANCE in Santee. He is very professional, cool, and down to earth. More importantly, he knows more about the Ford engine than ANYBODY I have ever met. He just recently went though my motor and pointed out all the problems that were not caught by my last engine builder. And backed it up, by taking the time to show me. I have a 438ci Dart block with 12 to 1 comp., external wet sump set up making around 650hp, with all the forged racing internal goodies, JE pistons, etc. I have $15,000 into this motor, top to bottom and raced it in the 1000 and 500. Greg just pulled one apart that had the same internals, etc. that was done from Leon Patton, that cost his customer almost $30,000. And it took a dump. Oh, by the way...............he does "ALL" of the McMillians 408 SVO block, pump gas, prerunner motors. I think I have said enough. Good luck and good racing.

Not really looking for a builder, but I do need to find a good engine machine shop that can clean / check / bore / balance a 408 stroker I'm getting ready to assemble. Any recommendations on a shop located in the IE or The OC?

Here's a crazy one for you. D&L Automotive Dennis Checharick 814-692-2268 home number. Call LeDuc for a reference. Best value for the money and straight as an arrow. Has been building off road racing motors for 30 years.

Pennsylvania? Way too far away for me :) I hate shipping things... they have a nasty habit of getting lost / damaged while in transit.

NCP Motors 530-622-3920 Ask for Norm. I have been running 460's for 15 years. He builds 460's right. There are tricks to a 460, like a lot of clearance on the mains, etc..., build for low rpm's. He built my 550hp nat aspirated motor and my 1,000 hp twin turbo motor. Both running lots of miles no problems.
You can build an easy 450 - 475 hp, 460 motor without a lot of money. Factory steel nodular crank, forged pistons, cast iron heads, manifold, carb, headers. If you want more power, like 650 hp, go to a 514 SVO crate motor, best deal for the money.

Ken's Automotive Engineering in Ventura has built something like 225-250 460's in the last ~2 years. Every single one of them goes on the Dyno b4 that customer picks them up. They have done a LOT of Dyno development on 460's for this one volume customer. They've built engines for every form of racing, except aircraft, at one time or another. I know they just finished a Freshen-up job for one ProTruck team.

For those old time drag racers wondering "is that....." Yes, it is the same Ken's that build the "Odd Couple", a twin engined dragster, blown SBC in front of a Blown 392 Chrysler
