I used one of the 650 models on a 350 chevy, worked very well. Easy to set up and very reliable. The best was the cold weather performance, with the carb it would take forever to warm up and run right. With the FI it ran perfect from the time it was started.

We bought one to put on our 4.5L. We didn't use their fuel pump, and I'm told one of the sensors was too far away from the throttle body. We got it running, but not very well. We tore it of and put the carb back on it until after the season ends so we could take our time and get it right. The hard thing seems to be finding a decent base map for a particular engine.
We are anxious to get it working to improve the mileage and tuning. Can't say for sure if it's a good investment on not until we make it work. Good luck, and post your results if you go that way.

This doesn't answer your question, but I've recently been looking into EFI for my Bronco and found an cool option. Theres' a company that makes the necessary parts to install a GM throttle body injection system on just about anything.
If you're not familiar with it, the GM system is a simple, effective and reliable. Plus, diagnostics are relatively straight forward and parts are easy to find. I'll try to find the website and post it later.

I just spent some time reading through a thread on pirate4x4.com started by someone at http://www.affordable-fuel-injection.com/ and it had a lot of good info.

If you want multi point, I would (and did) use the edelbrock system. I don't know if they have one for the FE motor yet but I've been really happy with mine over the last 5 years and an employee just put the small block version on a 406 and is ecstatic about it. Biggest cool thing is no lap top is required, it comes with a hand held interface to adjust everything.

The Edelbrock kits are great, but they're really pricey (as I'm sure you know Stephen).
The GM TBI kit can be done for well under a grand with custom programming.

A few years ago I installed a Commander 950 system with a 1000cfm throttle body on a 300 hp Mopar 5.9L crate engine that I put in my CJ7. I didn't have any base-maps to work with, and had a terrible time trying to get it to run right at first. That was because when I first got my kit, Holley was using a narrow-band O2 sensor that would only tell you rich/lean (+-). That made it really hard to tune because you didn't know how much it was off until you went too far. When Holley made I a wide-band O2 sensor available, I upgraded to that immediately. That made ALL the difference. Tuning the engine after that was super quick and easy. It runs great now. I hate dealing with electrical stuff, but the wiring harness and all of the sensors were easy to install and the laptop interface is pretty easy to use and understand. For what it's worth, this was my first experience with a stand-alone fuel-injection system and I was able to get it dialed-in pretty well by myself without putting it on a dyno. It's not the most full-featured FI system out there, but that was great for me because I didn't want to be overwhelmed.

The AFI kits are ok but customer service is so so. They used to offer unlimited chip burns till your system ran right. Not sure if they still offer that. Just do your homework before you drop that much money.
I built my own system from junkyard parts(same as AFI kit). It was pretty easy with help from the web.
