Rode the entire course.
Yes--its still wet. More than 100 significant water crossings--but you know that.
Yes--its really rocky. But you know that too
Yes the course was re-routed....and some real mud bogs....boo-hooo.
Why isnt anyone talking about the complete cluster ***** from Javier south? There are two fresh sets of orange makers with arrows. Its almost impossible to follow the course without GPS. Never seen anything like it. Some idiots decided to mark another race using bits and pieces of Baja 1000 course for a few hundred miles.
Its really really really hard to follow the course! Dozens of times i had to back track to see if that was a SCORE orange/black arrow, or a another very very similar looking orange/black arrow.
Anyway--after running the whole thing, we found the water, rocks, re-routes, mud and bugs are not the problem.
The big issue with the southern section of the Baja 1000 is that there are two different fresh race routes with nearly identical markers that overlap in dozens of areas. Making for some very confusing route findings...
Bring your GPS!

Thank you for this post..I was wondering how the other race was going to affect the SCORE marked course. We are pre-running from San Ignacio to La Paz this weekend (on our quads) so wish us luck!!!

When we pre ran we also found it very difficult to follow the course and were hoping that Sal would add markings and ribbons when we got closer to race day. Without the PCI download we would have had a very difficult time. We said that if we lost our GPS during the race it could be for a long night.
On another subject, sometime people give Sal a hard time for many things but he deserves to be recognized when he go's out of his way for a racer. It was written on race-dezert that my wife had money taken from her at a military check point north of San Jaunico while pre running. Someone forwarded this info to Sal. He personally took the time to find my phone number and call me and let me know that Score contacted the Department of Tourism and the government officials. He apologized to me over and over again. Thanks Sal for taking the time!!!!

The Pato course splits after San Javier and goes straight up a slight grade, where as the SCORE course turns left. The Pato course has mid door water crossings...definently don't go that way. The courses join back together just after the highway crossing in the valley, and bounce off each other a few times there after...eventually ending up in the same place. Pay attention just after San Javier and you'll be OK.

There is another place that is quite confusing, apart from the Rancho Pelotero after San Javier, where Score takes a left and the local race goes straight.
After the mud hole, coming up to La Presa de Iguajil, there is a white house to the right on the top of the hill. SCORE takes a hard right turn there, whilst you will see marks straight which are very tempting, but are of the local race!

Maybe it would be a good idea for Score to "flag" these few areas if possible before the race happens. Also, probably by race day the Score course will be a little more worn.
