after many months of searching for "deals" in classifieds ebay and local junk yards i think im better off getting a crate engine. or something new that is mildly built.
what compainies offer LS 1/6 crate engines? i know of turn key they are out of my price range and i heard stories. im really looking for a stock new ls1/6. is the gm crate engine web site my best bet?
thanks

Be Carefule If You Get A Ls6 There Is Alot Of Stuff You Have To Change. Oilpan ,throtle Body, Computer, Power Steering Alternator. I Bought A Ls6 On Ebay For 6000. After All The Changes I Had To Make I Now Have 15,000 In My Motor.

There are a few different companies building from crate motors--- Redline Performance, Danzio, Turn Key, Glens, F.R.E., etc. Just an FYI, the only difference between the LS1 and the LS6 is the oil galley and the intake manifold. If you find a good deal on a 2000 or newer LS1, jump on it then change the intake to an LS6, change the cam, retune the stock computer and your done.

Why would you have to change the throttle body, alt, power steering pump and computer? I have all that stock stuff on my motor without any issues.

well the cpu has the traction controll on it and i was told by a few people like painless and redline turnkey that as long as i had the stock cpu i cant disable the traction controll and would limit my horse power on my motor . the stock throttle body has no way to put a throttle cable to it.and the said i could get away with running the stock power steering pump but might have some problems so i just went with the howe.

hhhmmm...............thats odd about the traction control, never heard of that.
You can use a throttle cable on the stock throttle body, in fact it fits directly on the stock "nub" on the side.
I also heard about the power steering being a problem, but I was willing to test it out myself. I have been using the stock pump with the Howe 2.5 ram without any failure..................yet. We will see what happens.
btw, I am not trying to stir the pot, I just dont like when the big guys like Painless and Redline try to push there overpriced stuff on us when it is not absolutely needed.

Actually to change a ls1 to a ls6 you need heads too.

Be careful with some of the new ls1's, some of them have drive by wire so you have to change the throtle body, although it's not to bad.

You're better off using an LS2 if you are gonna buy a crate engine. They are better piece and less expensive than either of the other two. They are not using the ls1 or the LS6 in any more production vehicles, hence the better pricing.
