Does anyone know the load capcity specs of a Robby Gordon wheel or a Walker Evans wheel? Specifically for a 17"x8" 8 lug wheel for a Super Duty?

Ryan,

Walker wheels are 3800lbs I believe. RG's (made in China) might have a listed rating but I'd be skeptical as QC is probably not the best.

If you want a badass alternative check out Tubeworks. Jayson is working on his own line of wheels and has paid to have the destructive testing done on his designs. I forget the load rating he told me but it was VERY VERY high. More load capacity than any F-350 is capable of. Plus they look pretty bitchin' --- but they are bucks up expensive!

If your looking for seriously heavy duty wheels, these are 4500 lbs.

This is RT Cepek's site and there ain't much he does not know about wheels and tires. I'm sure he could sort your truck out with the right back spacing.

Jeff, I think you're right about the load cap. but it says right on the back of a Walker wheel that it also is made in China, although they are finish machined here. I've had poor luck with Robby wheels (specifically the rings). I think the Robby wheels say 3200, but I'll double check at the shop tomorrow. I have some KMC's there too, they were rated higher than the Robby wheels as well.

I'm building a new tow vehicle for myself and I want to take the time to make sure that I'm up to spec on my tow capacities.... The tires I'm planning on using are rated at about 3300#'s.... so I'd like to have a wheel that is AT LEAST rated at that. And I'm trying to get away from a 17" wheel because the tires are so damn expensive. I'm seriously looking at the KMC beadlock. That might be next wheel of choice... but I am going to take a look at the tubeworks wheel you mentioned... thanks for the help on this guys....

Ryan, I checked today the Robby wheels say 3000lbs. The KMC enduros say 3200lbs. My pick is the KMC's if you are looking for beadlocks. 36 bolts per ring and the rings are nicer as far as the machine work goes. My buddy had his powdercoated a charcoal grey, then had Aluminart anodize the rings red, they look great. The FST wheel is forged and has a ridiculous load rating...but you could get two KMC's for the price. Dragonfire Racing has a high load forged wheel too (also high$), and Trailready has a forged high LBS. rating wheel. Good luck.

KMC might be the winner!

Talk to the short course guys about KMC wheels... when I was at Crandon this year the KMC's were exploding at impact on hard landings. They had multiple failures if my memory serves me correctly.

Give Jayson at Tubeworks a call, he's been disecting wheels while designing his own line, he probably has the skinny on which wheel is best/worst.

I talked to Jayson... the wheels 17x8.50" and are available in any back space from 5.00" to 7.00" and in virtually any lug pattern. The wheel itself runs about $350 per wheel for the machined finish, if you want powdercoat it runs between $20 and $50 per wheel, depending on the color. The upside, his street wheel will be rated at 4000+ lbs.

Any forged wheel would be the best. FST wheels are awesome, 1 piece forged beadlock with a 5000lb capacity. This info comes from the guy that machines them, he also used to do the APP 1 piece forged wheels which were also great wheels. You can get a forged wheel in 1, 2, or 3 piece versions, however 1 piece is the best. A cast wheel will never have the load capacity that a 1 piece forged will have.
