Trying to help my friend get his 1992 Ranger w/ 2.3l motor to run. Last time he drove it everything seemed fine. Parked it overnight and then had a dead battery. Tried to charge batt. no luck. Battery replaced and truck turns over but won't start. This year Ranger has 2 sets of coils.

So today I go over to check it out. And here is what I have done/ learned so far:

1. No spark from coil pack plug into front position. Both coil packs work in rear location.
2. Replaced ignition control module. Thinking one side was bad. Still no spark from front coil pack.
3. Primary coil resistance was .9 to 1 ohm on all. Measured from center pin to each outside pins or B+ to terminal 1 or 3.
4. Could not get any reading (open?) for secondary resistance. Measuring from either terminal 1 or 3 and corresponding plug wire tower. This was for both coil packs.
5. Have 12v at B+ on harness connector for the front coil with ignition on.
6. EEC 30amp fuse good.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for the help!!!

Not sure if 2.3L's have crank sensors, if so, check that first. Wiggle it and try to start, it might be bad. Similar symptoms, truck just turns, turns, turns, no stumble. Sometimes when the battery goes bad, Ford computers go hay wire. Unplug the main and secondary (around the front of the engine) ECU's and replug them. Then try to start. Not sure why it does that, but it has fixed a truck in the dezert in the past.

Good luck

Thanks for the advise. I sure thought more of the Ford guys would chime in. What is there a race or something... :D
