View Full Version : Street vs. Offroad applications

I have a simple question. Does anyone have a formula they use that estimates percentages between street and offroad race applications.

Example: A 1000hp street race transmission is good for 500hp in an offroad racing application. Therefore offroad racing is twice as abusive as street/pavement racing and the same tranny is good for 50%(offroad/street) of a street application.

I know there are a lot of factors involved in answering this question but I'm interested in a simple answer, considering that whatever tranny you build will have all the trick parts to it...

Thanks Guys,

The biggest problem with that question is that variance within the scope of "off-road" is about as wide as street versus off-road.

Offroad racing application. Like the stress put on the driveline from a big block skipping over the whoops or tearing up a rocky rutted hill. I know it's a broad question but I'd appreciate even a rough estimate.

An efficient Class 1 car might be as low as perhaps 125% of a pavement race car. A brutal TT is almost on par with Top Fuel.

Ben,
There is no such secret formula. What are you really trying to figure out? Converting street applied parts for off road? Did you find a good deal on a street trans and you are wondering if it will withstand the vigors of offroad racing? try to be a little more specific.
