Checking VW bug drum wear

Been reading info(dim.) is cast into the drum. Any help in this matter would be appreciated. Everything else is new, hoping this is the reason for the grief.

Starting with the rear...I have swing axle rear end on a 64 bug, that I changed to a "long casting" still swing arm longer axles (following Jeff hibbard book) when I order 67 brake shoes I get the wide pads, which i would like to run. But the star adjusters on the backing plates will not give them the space. do I need to go to 68 backing plates? The new 22m slave cyclinders seem to accomdate both shoe sizes. Also the hubs seem to shallow for the wide shoes but maybe the new backing plate fixes all that? Thanks for any info....

I know this is different from the orginal post but i now accept the need to spend some money and get it right..
