I may not be correct but, I think Kennedy makes an adaptor plate.

Even if you got the Northstar for free I don't think its the best v8 option to put in a ranger.

If you have to put a Gm engine in it go with the ls1, lq9 or one of the other newer pushrod v8s. The engines will bolt to the th 400 with a simple $75 adapter. There is also a intake available to let you use a carb. This will save you tons of time and money in the long run.

If it was me I would simply put in a ford V8 and c6 trans.

i recieved one for free, after doing my homework on it, it got passed on.
they are notorious for pulling head bolts (threads in the blocks need hellicoils)
you can bolt a 2.8L/60 degree 700r4 trans to it although that things a piece of crap unless you dump some money into it too.

run a SB ford.

Also, the engines are very wide across the heads. Makes your cage kinda interesting.

There seems to be many ways to get this a complished.

I have never done this but have a little info.

The th400/350 will bolt to the ls1, 4.8, 5.3 and 6.0.

One of the bolt holes in the th400 does not have a coresponding bolt hole in the block and will need to be drilled and tapped into the block.

The Block does have a "extra" bolt hole above and between the 2 upper bolt holes. you can build a aluminum triangle with this added hole and weld it to the th400, but i believe it is not needed if you tap the other hole into the block.

They sell a spacer that goes between the engine and the TC pilot for $75-85 that gives you the spacing needed to make a stock th400 TC work properly. You will also need to elongate the TC holes in the stock engine flexplate.

This is just one way to do it. Some people buy a conversion TC. Some say the right year flex plate will wok with a stock th400 TC. And others just run the trans missing the bolt.

If you find a really good tech article about this please post it.

Put in the 5.0 get rid of the Northstar, get something more common and easy to install. The 5.0 is very common in rangers there is even a kit for motor mounts and headers and wiring harness for it from summit or Jegs. You will be very happy with the power out of a 5.0. and it will save you money time and a lot of headaches.
