There sure are a lot of locals and open-wheelers trying to get into this event. Some of them with big teams too! Cool to see some new names and not so many whackers in there.

My guess is that this race in NO way help out the cup program...maybe if it was at the Glen or Infineon. But is seems like 'the man' is pretty focused on making this years cup team very solid.

The Mexico race is very taxing on the team. Plus, last year RG used Red Bull Mexico to fund it. My guess is two strait weeks at the shop is more important.

Did you notice no Full time Cup divers other than Full time Busch/Cup drivers? Cept the Biff... Interesting... Maybe they were asked to stay home so they didn't send anyone home... 43 drivers entered 43 drivers racing. Hummm...

JPM blew it. No reason to take out your teammate with that many laps left.

Do not think that other competitors will not take notice. You know the ole saying.......Live by the spin , die by the spin......Sears Point is only a few months away.

DanDan is right..no need to take your team mate out of the race.

Correct, but Motorola sponsored this years race. I am very surprised they didn't have a car in it. Good to see RG concentrating on his Cup program. Nice to see JPM win, but not the way he did. Overall fun race to watch.

Yeah, I was pretty bummed about that too. His car was fast too, and it seems like he could've easily made a pass in any of the 9 or so laps remaining.

In relation to JPM's "so significant" victory, why so much media attention to his Columbian heritage and hispanic/latino fans? If Dale Jr. thanked rednecks and whites specifically, the NAACP, Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton and entire entourage would be all over him for racist statements and screw with him.
Am I the only one who thinks this is a lot like reverse racism?

I think I may have found the awnser to a few of my questions:

Why did Wimmer test Robby's COT at Bristol and why wasn't RG entered in the race today.

Yeah, rumor has it that he was pretty ill. Scott WImmer did a solid job for Team G. Yet again, it was cool for RCR to say sure, go test for Robby. They let Brandon Miller do the same for the Busch car at Daytona. Robby being sick though had nothing to do with them racing in Mexico. I looked at the entry list a good two weeks ago and Team G was nowhere on it. I believe that RG and the team are concentrating on being solidly in the top 35 for Cup. What I do not understand is why RG was not in another teams Ford Car. Do you really think that Jack ROush would not have put Robby in one of his cars for a road race. the 21 car was available, they put PJ Jones in it. COuld you imagine the rumor mill if Robby would have driven the RCR 21 in Mexico. I think Ford would have kicked and screamed about that one, if not drop him all together ( most likely a contract violation). But I can not imagine Richard Childress not jumping at the opportunity to put Robby back in one of his cars for a Busch road race. That would have been cool.:D Ah well, back to Vegas next weekend. Hopefully RG does Montreal this summer.

While I don't entirely disagree that this happens in some ways in some places- I think the focus has to do with the fact that his heritage/ethnicity makes him an exception to the rule in Nascar- Same as a west coast kid having success in years past, or Bill Lester last year... In any event, he won so congrats to him and he gets the headlines for now.

LOL... One of NASCAR teams biggest marketing tools when courting sponsors is that the average NASCAR fans salary is 60K+.
I guess NASCAR wants to lower that figure.

I asked a Mexican friend of mine the other day if he wanted to come over and watch the NASCAR race. He laughed and said, "If I wanna watch something like NASCAR, I'll just go sit on the side of the freeway"
