OK now NASCAR goes back down south for race #4.
RG solid 14th in points. While just about every one else has moved up or down in the 1st 3 weeks the #7 is the only car remaining in the same spot each week. Still real early.
Toyota still struggling, POS racing just flat sucks.
DEI what up with these guys? I guess little "E" is human. The pits were closed OOPS.
MM still the points leader, I think he will stick to his word.
Tire compounds, Tank size, Toyota, Sponsor wars, Weird driving & MIKEE.
Interesting start to this season.

What size tanks this week?
"The Cup cars raced approximately a 22.5-gallon fuel cell last year at Atlanta," said David Hoots, NASCAR managing event director. "The 2007 fuel cell holds approximately 18 gallons, plus the filler neck and vent tube."
"NEXTEL Cup cars average 4.5 miles-per-gallon," McReynolds said. "With the 22-gallon cell the teams ran in 2006, they were getting between 64 and 66 laps before having to come to pit road. Now, with the smaller cell, these guys will be running 52-54 laps, about 10 or 12 laps less than last year."

Bricoop, man that sounds pretty up there for Kahne. Are you sure that is not including personal endorsements. I just do not see Dodge spending that kind of money on one car, or even 2 cars for that matter in one season with todays financial climate for the big 3. Now if tht was the entire operational budget for Kahne, Sadler and Riggs, I could buy that, but not for just Kahne. Roush is bringing close to that for 5 teams. I am not trying to challenge you, just questioning the info.

March 14th, 2007, 09:18
Right now I think Ford is putting 2 mill a year plus engines (1.5M). Beam is less than 5, Menard/Mapei is about 4. Verison/Motorola (Busch) is between 3-5. Hummer/GM was 5 for 2 years... If Monster throws down 12 for 12 races plus the dirt stuff on top of that... Good for RGM.
RGFan
March 14th, 2007, 10:26
If Monster was really to give out 1 mil per race, that would be sweet. That is alot of money for one race, when 16-20 mil will buy you the entire season on a car. Do you guys think we will see Monster on a RG car full time next year? Maybe RG will be able to buy out a number in the top 35 like POS has done . If RG can find someone to drive with his driving style, that would be huge as far as setup and R&D go......Ah, this is another topic for another time. How about Paul Menard........

Last year was heartbreaking. Short pitted to gain time on the leaders near the end of the race and then everybody ended up making it to the end. To make matters worse, he got caught speeding when he short pitted.
Earlier in the day he was on pit road when a caution came out so he went a lap down but then he drove away from the leaders and got it back (him & Kenseth both).
It was rain delayed until Monday so I watched little numbers go around on trackpass while listening to the radio broadcast.

Yeah, you are right. You know, I really hope this is the year he can take it up a notch to the next level. I am not expecting miracles. But, if he can finish inside the top 20 come years end, I really think that could be huge for him and RGM. He had a solid start last year as well and then went up and down for the rest of the season. Once the Ford announcement came out, man did things fall off fast. From top 25 in points to 30th.....That hurt. We are only 3 races in, but man the excitement is starting to build. I really think that Ford (Dan Davis) and Roush (lets face it, Roush is Ford as well) believe in RG. If he can stay in the top 20, I think you will see a second car and a solid driver for RGM. Ford has a way of making things Ok for their teams, just look at RYR

Anybody else catch RG's interview on Sirus radio? Good stuff, about LV he admitted he was aggressive but said he needed to go to the front after such a bad Q time. Said he likes CM and understands the pressure he is under, no bad blood over the comments from him.
Blank car last week, he pointed to the Motorola deal that fell thru in Dec. Said he was still trying to catch up from that deal falling thru but did say he had the funds to make it thru the year and never mentioned Monster. Admitted qualifying is their biggest weakness but pointed to his pit crew for their efforts and had real good attitude about this weekends race.
It was a good interview by Jack Arute and RG was stand up guy, answered all the questions real well I thought.

from thatsracin.com:
Robby Gordon loses
2nd Nextel sponsor
By JIM UTTER
HAMPTON, Ga. – Robby Gordon has lost his second primary sponsor for his Nextel Cup team is as many weeks.
Gordon had obtained a partial sponsorship, including this weekend’s race at Atlanta, from Motorola but NASCAR refused to allow Gordon to keep the sponsor decals on his No. 7 Ford Friday because of a conflict with series sponsor Sprint Nextel.
Although Motorola has a relationship with Sprint Nextel, it was through Motorola’s relationship with wireless competitor Verizon that the sponsorship deal was made.
“It’s going to have an effect on our race team. I didn’t anticipate anything like this, I can promise you that,” Gordon said.
“NASCAR has tried to work with us on this. Supposedly this has to do with NASCAR’s deal with Nextel and there is something there which will not allow this to happen.”
NASCAR officials said they informed Gordon the sponsor was not allowed on Thursday. As of noon Friday the team had still not removed the Motorola decals from the car but planned to do so before Cup qualifying Friday night.
Gordon did not have sponsorship on his Cup car last weekend at Las Vegas after former sponsor Harrah’s opted not to return.

RG should get a temporary injunction out of federal court to keep the sticker/sponsorship since Na$car has known for at least a week. There wouldn't be a hearing until at least next week, but if it's granted, he would be able to keep the sponsorship for Sunday.

Very good article. It was unfortunate that RG was blamed for Sunday's wreck. Ward Burton was quoted as saying he checked up.That is how Robby Gordon got under him. When Ward ran him down the track, he had nowhere to go. As far as Robby Gordon, talent wise, he is world class. He and Juan Montoya are the only drivers in the series to have earned an F1 test( Jeff Gordon's was a publicity stunt sponsored by speed channel). Little known fact, Robby Gordon actually turned down racing in F1, he tested for Mcclaren in the early 90's. He tested in the rain and was running competetive laps in the worst possible test conditions. He did not want to race in Europe. Robby's only weakness is his drive to be an owner. It is probably the only reason he is not now a Champion. Another factoid....Robby was offered a position with Jack Roush in the 90's to be Mark Martin's first teammate at Roush. He opted out for Champ Cars.......He really does not get enough credit. He was brash, cocky, very confident as a young driver and it rubbed the old school Nascar Fans and Drivers a little raw. The Nascar crowd can be very unforgiving, Robby Gordon is a prime example of that and the majority of the media has jumped on that. It is very sad. Robby Gordon is one of those drivers cut from the same cloth as Parnelli Jones, AJ Foyt, Mario Andretti, Mickey Thompson and yes, even Tony Stewart. He will race in anything and win in anything. He proves it year in and year out.

He has the same tools as Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson and he is not getting the same results as them. On his side, I can understand where his disappointment is, but he is going to need to step up his game and concentrate on that."
If I was Casey, I'd be hearing- "At least I'm not sucking as bad as he is right now. He's got a better package, and he can't hang out with the big boys."
Nice job on the control.

I agree with Joe about Robby Gordon. The man is an exceptional talent and I catch the crap week in and week out about being a loyal fan. Yes I think that the analogy of his cut of the cloth is very true. It is a shame that he recieves so much flak, but yet as a single car team, he is "out running" some of the best multi-car teams. I'd rather suffer week in and week out rooting for a driver that is not afraid to say what he feels and can back it up on the track. Sooner or later he is going to turn heads in a big way, and when that day comes watch out. I'm definatly a Gordon fan for life. It would also be great to see him back at "Indy" in May & this time not run short on fuel....................

I'm sure he has a three year contract. Everyone knows that he can drive. If he doesn't start getting some results.I'm willing to bet they will make some crew members changes and see how that works out. Hell, they stuck with Vickers for four years. His only win came by taking out his team mate.

MWR has Dale Jarrett's Past Champs provisional keeping them in the race. Anybody want to start taking side bets if POS will actually qualify for a race this year? Jarrett has now used 2 out of 6 possible provisional spots he can use. 4 more races, and no MWR at all. At what point do big corp's like Toyota, NAPA, etc sit Mikey down and have a little chat? I really wish Speed channel would get him off the air, he's just starting to get annoying now.
RG got the ROYAL hosing. Sirius was having a big show about it today, and it was funny....they were trying to say that the Motorola that sponsors RG is the motorola from verizon, not Sprint/ Nextel. Funny, but we probably have over 1000 nextels for the company I work for, and all of them are made by motorola. A phone/ radio is a phone/radio. They all come off the same assembly line.

Actually, he has used his 4th this weekend at Atlanta, he only has 2 Champion provisionals left. You are right about RG though, he got the shaft. He even offered to put Nextel Stickers on the car free of charge, next to Motorola and remove any and all Verizon references. It seems like some sort of payback on Nascars part.

NASCAR brokers deal for paint scheme for Robby Gordon car sponsor
MIKE HARRIS
HAMPTON, Ga. (AP) - Robby Gordon will get to start Sunday's NASCAR Nextel Cup race at Atlanta Motor Speedway with a primary sponsor on his No. 7 Chevrolet after all.
Gordon, an owner/driver in the Cup series, showed up at the track Thursday with the logo of his Busch Series sponsor, Motorola, on his cup car. NASCAR immediately told Gordon that, because of the non-compete clause in its contract with telecommunications giant Sprint Nextel, which sponsors its premier series, he could not make the change.
But NASCAR spokesman Jim Hunter said a compromise was reached Saturday.
"We've worked with members of Robby's team to come up with a reasonable paint scheme solution for tomorrow's race," Hunter said. "When the team unloaded here this week, the car had a paint scheme on it that had yet to be approved. Due to the limited time frame, we worked with Robby and his team to come up with a non-wireless solution."
"He will therefore run in tomorrow's race with an approved paint scheme carrying a digital audio player Motorola design on the car."
Hunter said Gordon will be allowed to use those logos for the rest of the Cup season.
Gordon was not available for comment.
This compromise came a day after another telecommunications giant, AT&T, sued NASCAR after racing series officials would not let the company put its logo on Jeff Burton's race car.
Burton's No. 31 car is sponsored by cell phone service provider Cingular, but AT&T recently took full ownership of Cingular as part of its recent merger with BellSouth and intends to eliminate the brand name.
The lawsuit calls altering the design of the No. 31 car an "integral part" of the company's brand name switch, and that NASCAR's refusal to allow it inhibits the company's ability to "attract new customers and retain existing ones."
"Our position remains that we don't comment on litigation," Hunter said.

I bet Montoya will win a cup race this year if he doesn't burn out first. Now with Bristol coming up(which I will be at.) I think this going to be one of the best races in a long time. Everyone is going to be on a level playing field.Brand new untested cars.I think the person who can keep the fenders on the car will come out on top!

Was it just me or did it seem like TV was doing everything they could not to show Robby, watching the ticker on top roll by until the time you would expect to see #7 then, comercial, or lets see Jeff's stats, or tech talk. A few times Robby was up to 12th place, and trhey would show to number 11th, then when he was back they would go up to 15th. I wantted to jump through the screen, it is always a problem watching for him because you never know what happens going from lead lap to 2 laps down then back up, always a surprise when you find out later.

I have been thinking that for years, just never said anything. WHen Robby is 12th, they will show top 10 and as soon as he drops a position or two, they will show the top 12. Probably has nothing to do with Robby, but it sure seems that way.

I will not give Nascar a fricken dime of my money. After all of the crap they have tried to pull. Once they become a fair, respectable sporting organization, with rules in black and white, I may change my stance. Until then, they can go f themselves. The only reason that they helped Rg at all this weekend with the entire Motorola thing was because all of the negative press they recieved in 48 hours time.

I know that he and Cal are old friends. I do not know what Cal can offer. He sold the 32's number and points to MWR. And to be honest, his team was not competetive in years if ever really at all. I think they had two wins or something like that. He could not drum up much sponsor money for his car either. Maybe he is going to take over some of John Story's responsibilities. Some guy named Fly mentioned a Cal Wells/RGM management deal last year.
I had hoped something like that could happen. But of course Ol' Chase2 said it could never happen. Cal could offer major support in the delegation of tasks within the org. I could only guess at how awesome RG's Dakar team would be next year if Cal had a chunk of that task too.
Yeah, good deal on the solo. RG should be a 5 time Baja 1000 champ.
As for CUP cars, Cal has one or two COTs to throw in the mix too.
For now until RG gets the new Garage Majal done he could base his Dakar team out of Cal's shop too. People would be trippin seeing the Monster T-4 cruz'n Charlotte.
