View Full Version : Trophy Kart Rules updates...

If you plan on racing a TK this year, here are a couple updates and clarifications I have researched:

Split Sprockets ARE now legal

Wheels can either be stock dimension 8x7'wide or 8x8"wide but the overall track width can't exceed stock. Because you can't buy a 8x8" wheel with .5" negative offset, you are stuck with either running stock type wheels or 8x8" with 1" negative offset. Be carefull, the 8x8" wheel with 1" negative offset makes the front tire hit the spindle on our Trophy Kart.

Tires must be less than or equal to 20" in diameter. The same tire size and model must be used Front, Rear, and as a spare!

Seatbelt/ Harness must now be the typical old fashioned latch style NOT THE STOCK BUCKLE STYLE!

These are just updates I have inquired or been told about. If you have any tech questions, call Tony Rutledge ASAP.

TK are gay....wait till the new trucks come out.
TK were designed for kids to follow there dreams and be like the big boys maybe even there dads or uncles. Now all these rules they have in place are killing the "average racer" How can you everyone play on a level playing field if EVERYONE isnt playing fair.
(YOU KNWO WHO YOU ARE).

Seems to me that someone with money can bend or tweak the rules anytime they want.

Let TK be Karts for kiddies and let the daddy's be adults about the kiddies sport.

my 2 cents

There's two "SPEC" classes at this point, Junior 1 is 8-12yrs. old, and Junior 2 for13-16yrs. old. At this point, there isn't a rulebook for a modified class. It is shaping up to be a more expensive and faster "SPEC" class.

something far better is in the works. Look for a big announcement in 2 weeks. The vehicle will be off the hook and smoke ANY rhino, trophy kart, etc.....

Another FYI...

It has become apparent that some people may be shortening the "Garter" springs in the driver pulley of the clutch. This is not allowed. Any comercially available spring is allowed provided that it has not been modified.

For those of you that haven't been using the TK's much, keep an eye on everything bolted to the engine. We have had the fan shroud crack, the cylinder head baffle crack, the intake manifold gasket compress, the header pipe crack,... all due to vibration. Those of you who have some time on the TK, probably already know about the vibration...

The bearing falls off the shaft the pulley rides on for the clutch...

Yes, definitely keep an eye on the bearing right behind the snap ring on the inside of the TAV2 housing. The bearing wallows out the housing and then starts to allow the shaft to move around, causing a degredation in belt life along with lowering the RPM required to open the rear pulley.

Also, watch the jackshaft, they have a tendancy to slide out of the bearings after the setscrews loosen (2 per sprocket on the jackshaft).

We had belt problems with our clutches today. Both new clutches ate 2 belts within 2 laps of use on each car. The belts are getting wedged down and the rivets are destroying the belts. The old clutch cars that were testing had no issues. We will be going back to the old clutch and testing again...glad we didnt wait until race day.

Anybody have any tips for the new clutches to keep them from eating belts? ALignment is correct. Correct spacer is in stalled. Garter spring is tight. Clutch spring is on 1 setting.

Did they idle for an extended period of time before they were pushed? Idling tends to overheat the belt where it slips on the driver pulley.

Was the new clutch black or silver?

new clutches are both black old are both silver. No idling. Belt went on and off they went on the track.

Any chance the belts were backwards? According to Nestor, the black coating makes the belts last longer!

belts were not backwards. Spoke with nestor today and we couldnt come up with anything.
