Anyone have some feedback on which way to wire a Trophy Kart? I'm leaning towards having my brother use ear bud's, but a wired helmet would be much easier to work with. Just afraid that the kid won't hear me over the engine with a wired helmet.

Does anyone have a wired helmet in their TK? How does it work?

Thanks,

I perfer my wired helmet over ear buds just because they (buds) can be a pain in the rear sometimes. As far as engine noise, turn up the volume to a level thats works!

Helmet wiring has worked great so far with the TK racers. Ear buds can be cumbersome, (often forgotten) and at $70-$100 to replace, (the price of an entire wiring kit with speakers and mic) they can be quite expensive too.

Make sure you are purchasing a helmet wiring kit designed for a Hand held radio (known as a motorcycle helmet wiring kit) the mic and speakers are designed to work with a hand held radio. Also, if you are just using your pit crew cheif hand helds, there are programming changes (squelch, power, etc.) that make the radio settings work best for helmet communications.

The only problem I've heard bout being able to hear with a helmet wiring kit was with Scott & Kelly's girl - Sierra. The throttle stuck open and she kept pressing the PTT button screaming "daddy it won't stop" so she couldn't hear anything Scott was saying because she kept the TX open to keep yelling at dad. Just make sure the ones in the kart know you have to be off the TX button to hear, and they will be fine. :)

Ear buds and a cell phone. Tape the ear bud in with duct tape.

Low budget. Works great.

LOL, that sounds like something I would do.

I have ran both the "buds" and the wired kind. I would say the only reason you would need the buds would be if you were in a really loud car: TT, class1, & 10. For the TK, i would say wired. My little bro also races TK and his are wired. I hate wearing the buds and they can be annoying at times.

I could not hear anyting with my wired helmet so I had to go with the ear buds with duct tape over them. The truck was just to loud. Even with the Volume turned all the way up. But that was with a handheld, I am going to try the race radio this year and see if that works better.. The ear buds can be a bit uncomfortable but its what works for me. I do want to have the custom ones made but have not got around to it. By the Way SweetDevil will pci have the generic ear plugs available at the race?
thanks
Rob

Yes, we have the generic wired foam ear plugs at the CORR races for $69.95. Those little guys are really expensive... If you have old ones, they can be re-foamed and we have those foam pieces only in the trailer, free of charge if you put them on, it's a few $$ for us to play with your ear wax and re foam them... :)

My helmet is wired for both, when im driving with a vw motor i dont use the ear buds, but when im in a car with a honda or something loud u need the ear buds so i just plug them in. U cant go wrong with a helmet that has both.
