Thunder Hill Raceway Gets the Best of No. 5 Eric Hardin
Anaheim, CA- Eric Hardin fought the heavy traffic Saturday night at Kyle, Texas in his No. 5 Chevy Monte Carlo at Thunder Hill Raceway. The first race to kick off the NASCAR Grand National West Series event looked promising in practice with one of the fastest cars. With a brand new team and Mike Harvick as crew chief the Alta Dena Dairy car was looking to find the right groove on the race track.
The No. 5 Alta Dena Dairy Chevy started to move towards the front from the beginning of the race. “I was really anxious and excited to get the new No. 5 Alta Dena Dairy Chevy on the race track but I felt like I over drove the car to give us a 19th position in qualifying,” said Eric Hardin. Eric felt like he had a better car than the qualifying time showed saying that “It was the fastest car that I have ever driven”. Crew chief, Mike Harvick was working to get Hardin the best set-up possible so that he could work the one groove race track to a good finish.
While trying to avoid a wreck out of turn three Hardin came in contact with another competitor resulting in a large hole on the right side of the car. NASCAR officials quickly radioed that the No. 5 Alta Dena Dairy car would need to make its way into the pits to have the damage repaired. Car Chief, Justin Holechek made the call to use a baseball bat to pull out the fender and remove part of the body that was hanging off the car.
The quick work by the crew kept Hardin on the lead lap after the pit stop.
Hardin quickly piloted the No. 5 Alta Dena Dairy Chevy from the back of the field to 12th position by lap 122. Than during a restart Hardin was black flagged but unsure what the call was for, “I really don’t know why we were black flagged” said a puzzled Eric Hardin. With the rest of the race having short green flag runs it was difficult for Hardin to move to the front. The Alta Dena Dairy team ended the race at Thunder Hill Raceway finishing 20th.
After the race Eric Hardin said “The biggest thing that I got out of this race was a learning experience that I will work to improve on for the next race at Phoenix International Raceway”. Alta Dena Dairy is gearing up for the next race as they said “We’re really excited to have finally kicked off the season. We are extremely optimistic that this will be a breakout year for Eric Hardin and Alta Dena Dairy Racing" said John Keith from Alta Dena Dairy.
Eric Hardin would like to thank all of the sponsors which include Alta Dena Dairy, Hardin GMC- Pontiac- Buick, Hardin Honda, Hardin Hyundai, DSNtv.com, Fix Auto Collision, legacyrealty.org, Embee Performance, Ossur, and Valvoline.
