If they use the COY I believe POS will qualify and RG will run in the top 15.
If thet use the COT, I believe POS will be watchin the race on TV and Robby bags a top 25.

Mickey miss's the race again, because of rain cancels quailfying, Mickey will go to Nascar and plead for them to move quailfying to Saturday.
If it does not race, Mickey has a pretty good chance of making the race, but DJ will have to use his last PCP.

Kinda off the Taladega subject but, did anyone else listen to the Sirius Tony Stewert Live show today? Tony had Wally Dallenbach Jr on his show. All Wally wanted to talk about is how this last weekend he was in California for NBC and the CORR off-road race. I guess he will be the TV announcer. Wally said that since he has not been a full time Cup racer he has been working for NBC full time and he has also been doing some dirt circle track racing and he loves it. He said he was offered a chance to drive a Pro 2 truck at the CORR race track just to see what it was like. He said he loved it so much that he is working on getting a truck to race at a few of the races this year. He said he could not believe how fun and extreem off-road racing is. He said these guys are way more hard core then the Nascar guys. He said that he has talked to Robby a lot about off road racing in the past and now he understands what Robby has been talking about. He also said Robby is very passionate when he talks about desert racing. Wally also said that he will not be racing in the Pikes Peak hill climb this year, but he and his brother are currently working on a package to race in this years Baja 1000. (I'm guessing the Baja Challenge class) He said they have been talking about the Baja 1000 for a while but after his first taste of CORR he said he is hooked! He told Tony that he needs to try it. Wally said to Tony if you do you will get hooked and would probably put the sprint cars away for awhile. Tony said Robby has asked him if he would like to try it and Tony said he was not sure. Wally said that he knows Tony would just love it. Wally kept talking about the 800 hp throwing dirt and jumping threw the air. Also Marty Snider the co-host on Tony's radio show and announcer for NBC is also going to be doing reporting for the CORR series this year and Wally said to him you wont believe it until you see it!
So it looks as if some more Nascar guys are finally getting it. Wally gave great plugs to CORR and Robby on a Nascar show!

Oh yah! Tony gave a lame excuses that he did not want to speak because after last week he thought it was best not to say anything and he was really upset with NASCAR for throwing bogus debris cautions. He said he is fed up with the way NASCAR is running the sport and he knows the fans are figuring this out and TV say’s that if they can find the debris they will show it to the fans and they rarely ever find it. He says NASCAR is doing it to bunch up the field and make a better show, to keep more cars on the lead lap and to keep some fans favorites from going down a lap. He said if NASCAR wants to fix these races like WWF then just admit it and don’t pretend that its all about the racing and safety. He said being mad and not speaking had nothing to do with losing to Jeff. (Personally I don’t buy his story. It was not like Tony lost the race because of a debris caution. The caution that put Jeff in the lead was because of a wreck.) Tony also said that there are no rules that state that the top 5 finishers have to go to the media room, but it is just considered standard practice.
And Tony bashed NASCAR and the COT. He said one of the big reasons they built this new car was to eliminate the "Aero Push". He said it was worse then racing with the old car and as teams figure out these new cars it will become way worse then they have ever seen. He said NASCAR has really messed up with the new car and it is costing these teams a ton of money.
Personally I think Tony is becoming a big whiner and a hypocrite. He says that this bump slamming at Daytona and Taladega is going to kill someone and then what does Tony do? He deliberately takes out Kyle Busch and puts him into the wall. He talks about how Montoya needs to learn the NASCAR way of doing things and that he needs to respect the other drivers and then this weekend Tony almost wreaks Jeff G, Martin T and himself by going 3 wide this weekend. And Tony did say on his show last night that it might have looked good on TV but it was not a very good move. He complains about how bad a tire GoodYear brings to the track when he’s struggling, but yet if he does well then the tire is not so bad. If its not done Tony's way then it's not right.

Thanks, TS being TS makes for good drama but I will say his show on Tuesday's usually beats the heck out of the other cookie cutter call in shows on SIRIUS. I'd actually prefer less call ins and more discussions by the actual participants. It's almost embarrassing listing to some of the calls and I end up just pushing the button to the Buzz Saw channel.

Per Jayski!
NAPA looking? hearing that NAPA Auto Parts is looking at options for their sponsorship in the Nextel Cup Series. NAPA has been the sponsor for Michael Waltrip in the Cup Series since 2001, first with the #15 DEI Chevy, then since 2006 on the #55 car. Supposedly NAPA is talking to Richard Childress Racing as a possible replacement sponsor for Cingular, should AT&T not win its lawsuit against NASCAR to have the AT&T decals put on the #31 Chevy AND with Roush Fenway Racing as a sponsor for the #16 Ford Greg Biffle drives. Current sponsor Ameriquest has opted out of the sponsorship after the 2007 season.(4-25-2007)

NASCAR responds to Stewarts comments: NASCAR called Tony Stewart's comments "very, very disappointing." "NASCAR has been running races since 1948, and we place the safety of the drivers at the top of the list," said spokesman Jim Hunter. "We have more people and more resources than ever officiating our races. The safety of the drivers is our first priority. It has always been that way and will continue to be that way. There are thousands of talented race drivers out there who would consider it an honor to compete in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series."(

11 races and what 3 or 4 without sponsorship already. RG has already been quoted as saying that it is $400,000 a race. That comes to $6,000,000 give or take out of a 14.4 million budget, which is still below the top notch sponsors by about 6 million if he was fully sponsored. RGM was supposed to be a 2 car team this year. RGM is clearly falling back, not moving forward this season. Now I made some comments last weekend about Jimmy Spencer and the nice things he had to say about RG. He also said that as long as Rg continued this course of action with owning a single car team that he will never get the wins and championships that he has the talent to win. You have to have 3 or 4 cars to win a championship these days, that is just the way it is. I tend to agree with Jimmy Spencer. I think RG should have his own team if he wants, but grow the team in the truck series and busch with multiple cars. Let RGM build its reputation as a winner in those ranks while RG drives for someone else on Sunday, like Dale Sr. did it. With his team performing well and he performing well in Cup for a contender, that would help with sponsorship eventually. To be honest, it hurts to see the 31 do so well, that should be RG in there in the top 5 right now. Now Fly made a response that Rg should have done it the way that he did or he would be fighting the red bulls and the MWR teams for positions in the race every week. WHile that is a valid point for the number 7 team, my response is only the 7 is secure right now. IF he wants to grow the team( he needs to grow the team) those teams are going to have to fight there way in as well. We are not in the first or second season now, this is season 3 and instead of moving up, they are treading water, underfunded by about 6 million and still getting top 30's. How much longer does Jim Beam put up with this, where is John Menard at? Look, I am an RG Fan thru and thru, have been since the very early 90's as a teenager. And Fly said that RG loves to prove people wrong, I hope he proves me wrong, 10 ways and backwards. BUt RG is not 20 something anymore. He is pushing 40, he is in his prime now. Do I want to see RGM flourish, hell yes I do, I want to see RGM grow into a Penske and more, supporting cars from every discipline, ALS, IRL, SCORE, CORR, DAKAR, NEXTEL CUP, BUSCH, TRUCKS, all of it. But running around getting top 30's with a single car operation is not the way to do it IMO. I want to see RG get a championship to shut everyone up, I want to see him get 3 -5 wins a year. But the way it is going right now, I do not see it happening. Where is Monster and that big announcement? Them sponsoring Indy and the Pepsi 400 races is not primary sponsorship, that is a sponsorship filler.
The way I see it, RG and RGM has only a few choices.....First, obtain sponsorship for the 7 and another car, prefferably 2 (unlikely, they can not even keep the 7 sponsored), Second, partner or purchase another team like Yates with sponsorship and points (tried that, did not work), Third, stay as is and flounder as they are now and end up the way they did in 2000, or fourth, RG go drive for a top notch team and still keep RGM alive and grow it the way Dale Sr. grew DEI. Like I said, I hope I am wrong and they eventually flourish. But while RG likes proving people wrong, he also liked proving people wrong in 2000 and look what happened. But who the hell am I, I am just an RG fan, I should be used to the months of frustration touched with moments of brilliance by now. There is a rumor that RCR is going to 4 cars next season, RG did not burn any bridges when he left there, definetely food for thought.

I totally agree. He needs to go run for someone else and build the team. That seems to be the way everyone is doing it! Take Harvick for example. His truck team is doing pretty well and he always gets at lease on cup driver to fill a seat in his Busch car with good results. I would think RG would have a hard time getting a seat in another teams car at this point. I would think that his "intentions" would be question.

I agree with everything you said. It's disheartening to see RG running around 25th - 35th every week and sometimes without a sponsor. He's got a car in the top 35 - go merge it with RCR! Did RG's new shop ever get off the ground? Scrap the new shop and make the current shop a Busch/Truck shop and merge in Cup with a team looking for another driver - RCR, Penske, Ganassi (just not BDR or POS racing!) Bobby Ginn's team is looking good and he's got a couple of soon-to-be-if-not-already washed up drivers.
I don't see why he HAS to go it alone. Foolish pride!

The thing that I see that really screwed Robby over this season was the Botched RYR deal. This would have brought Robby at least one more car, guaranteed sponspoship through Menard and a talented young driver in Paul Menard. Really too bad, now RGM needs to figure out what to do or I see more sponsors jumping ship next year as well.

Well, Paul had one more year on his DEI contract, so he was going to be at DEI this year. BUt you really hit the nail on the head. As soon as I heard that they held off on the construction of the new RGM shop because of the impending deal, I knew that they had put alll of their eggs into the RYR deal. Then loosing Harrahs and the approx 6 mil that went along, by my math, that puts RGM operating on 8.4 million in sponsorship, but there are associates. so lets say 10 to 12 million., that is half of the budget of a competetive Cup team. Tony Stewart could not be competetive on a team with half of the budget he has now. :(

Nascar has exploded over the last +- 10 yrs., and is packaged reasonably well w/ network TV, corporate sponsors, infield camping, headfones, trackside and trackpass (altho the website is 100% worthless pos). There is also the SW Series with several now generation offroad racers running , but unfortunately there is no "career path" for young drivers in offroad (interesting note, 70%+ of Nascar fans own a pickup truck...).
It looks like CORR is modeling a similar pkg. (demographic locations, TV, sponsor / contingency program, weekend RV parking, and a professional marketing program) which should be good in the sense that it will bring more exposure to offroad. Ck. "The Journey" (http://www.corracing.com/2007/index.php?p=gallery&type=2&gallery_id=120&page2=)and their site, which is looking really good. The new mktg. team is doing a pretty good job.
Is TS bigger than Nascar? Is Nekcar right or wrong to "call him out?" Will the COT work? Who cares. Really, just want to see RG show em' all, yet here we are running top 30's....
There aren't really many better drivers than RG, are there?

10 grand. that's chump change to these guys. i bet tony spends that a month in fuel for the coach, helo & jet.
yes he got his hand slapped, but he knows where his meal ticket is coming from in the form of multi millions a year. gotta do what you gotta do..he knows they don't need him to have a race. sure it might piss a bunch of fans and sponsors off, but there is still 50 cars in the garage wanting to get in and the majority have sponsorship for a full year.

RG 50.85 he'll start around 35th sure he had a race set up.
The cars that raced their way in will fall back quickly. 50.66 current bubble spot
TV is a little behind DJ will use his last card and will probably not get in another race this year. No way MIKEE will find the speed.

ROBBY GORDON -- No. 7 Jim Beam Ford Fusion (Qualified 45th, Provisional)
"I watched Dale Jr. qualify earlier today and then I watched Jeff Burton qualify and I listened to their comments afterward and I just kind of smiled because I knew we had the same stuff built into our car for racing and it really wasn't gonna help us -- it's things you do with your body to make enough downforce, so you can get down underneath somebody -- side draft them -- and hopefully clear them. We've got that built in and it's stuff you just can't change for qualifying. If you qualify good, you don't have it for the race and the most important thing is having it for the race at the end of the day. We qualified right where we thought we would. We thought we'd do an .80 and we did an .85, so we had our expectations checked at the door. We knew where we were, but after watching yesterday's practice and how I could start at the back of the pack and work my way to the front, I'm excited about tomorrow's race."

Who said that, Darrel? Yeah, he is one to talk, He and his brother need to realize it is no longer the 80's and there is actually some competition now. Go back to where ever the hell they are from and do something they are good at, racing the figure 8 track at the crash up derby and wreck some perfectly good cars:D

Looks like RG can move the #7 where he wants lap 12 in 12th long race. I bet now he knows he can run up near the front he pulls back like Daytona and works at staying out of trouble and then kick it up in the last 50.
Then again I could be wrong seems like he found a home in the top 10

Joe Nemechek
Reed Sorensen
Kasey Kahne
Casey Mears
Scott Riggs
Dave Blaney
Brian Vickers
Jeremy Mayfield
oh yeah... and all of the POS circus.
Less than 100pts out of top 20 and 219 out of 12th.
Could be better, but could be much worse... Hopefully he has a surge here in the early part of the middle of the season.

Menards Mapei Talladega Race Report
NASCAR NEXTEL CUP > News > Race Reports
Posted by on Apr 30, 2007, 16:24
Robby Gordon and the No. 7 team traveled to Alabama this weekend for the running of the Aaron’s 499 at the Talladega Superspeedway. After leading final practice on Friday afternoon, the team was eager for another solid finish to continue this season’s momentum. As luck would have it, a blown engine would ruin the No. 7 team’s chances for a solid finish for the season debut of the Menards/Mapei paint scheme and relegate them to a 41st place finish. Gordon is now currently 27th in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup standings, still comfortably inside the top-35 in owners’ points, guaranteeing the team a starting spot in next week’s race under the lights at the Richmond International Raceway. FOX television and MRN radio affiliates will broadcast the event beginning at 7:00 pm (ET).

Did you guys catch this crap about Michael Waltrip is crying about the qualifying procedure and Nascar is listening and considering a change. Do not get me wrong, I have always thought the fastest 43 guys should be in the race. But RGM had to do backflips their first season and were shafted for 7 races their first season. Where was the outcry then? Now POS crys and they are going to consider it. I think it is a bunch of BS

Yeah I heard him crying about that but even Schrader said they have been on both sides and they like it when they are in and hate it when they are out. I hated it at 1st but it does add another layer of drama to NASCAR each week that keeps me tuning in.

Why do they only start 43 cars?? Why not start more if there are that many?

on the smaller tracks like bristol i do see it being a problem with more than 43 cars. Even the 1 mile tracks are crowded with 43 cars imo. I do think that 50+ cars on daytona or talladega is cool but then you gotta have the same number and 50 cars on bristol would be hell....but fun to watch. I do think it should be the 43 fastest get it and thats it. Dosent matter if you lead the points or you are a past champ.
Then again, making that garuntee for the top 35 in points means that you have to perform week in and week out if you want to be garunteed into the show. Its fun to keep track of where robby is to see if he is going to make it and fun to watch POS sit at home.

Why do they only start 43 cars?? Why not start more if there are that many?
My understanding is; A long time ago it was only 42 starters which made 21 even rows. Then when Richard Petty started to strugle to qualify on time, Nascar came up with the Past Champions Provisional. Nascar knew that a lot of fans came to the races to see the "King" Richard Petty race. He was a big draw and he had won a record 7 Championships. And if he or another big star did not make the field that the fans and the track attendance would go down. So Nascar came up with the Past Championship Provisional and that added the 43rd starter. It was Nascar's way of insuring that the fans were going to see the Champions and it also was a way to pay respect to a Past Champion.

why not, on bigger tracks run more cars.
or on medium to smaller venues, run two qualifying heats and a main.

One big problem is Pit road. It's already crowded as is, and there are only a limited number of spaces as well.

May 2nd, 2007, 10:12
Pit road needs an upper deck with a nice on-ramp back onto the track. They'd gain time on their stops.
DailyPedal
May 2nd, 2007, 10:53
A non issue on the larger tracks...1 mile and up...reconfigure pit lane with a longer pit road and pits out into the corner or even the on the back stretch.
b-makk
May 2nd, 2007, 11:39
That's a good idea for pits on the backstretch, they could finally sell some seats back there.
Also, don't let the cars more than one lap down line up on the inside on restarts.
