Buy a high quality SA 05 rated helmet, regardless of what the minimum rule requirement is.
Let me know if I can help. Many to choose from, wired if needed, helmet skirts available. Free Tear-offs and package discounts with custom painting.

One of my helmet reps told me last week that Shoei is seriously considering trying to get the SA 05 rating since they will be losing sales due to the rules changes. I sure hope they do, lots of people like Shoei helmets. But in the mean time we still have forced air Pyrotect and Bell helmets that are SA 05 rated and we can wire them too.

Alright, while this is being brought up, which SA rated helmet does everyone prefer? I just looked on Bells website, and I will say, I like the BR-1 side air.

I have the Pyrotect forced air helmet. I think it is one of the ugliest helmets but as soon as I put it on I can't see how ugly it is!:D It is also the most comfortable helmet I have ever worn. I even wear it when I ride dirtbikes and quads now and leave my other helmets home.

Just buy the sa-rated helmet that fits your head the best. What fits one dosnt feel comfortable on the other. My brothers and I all where different helmet brands because of fit.

just called SCORE Tech and they told me that all the M series (mine example M2005) on the inside my only be used for the remainer of the season. so pretty much if you have a M series helmet which i know a lot of people with them, will no longer be able to use those helmets and then must go to a SA series.

For those that are interested, Bell makes their helmets in Illinois, Simpson is made here in Texas, Impact is up in Indy. RCI, Pyrotect and several others are made in China. Bell does NOT make pyrotect. Shoei, Arai, HJC are made in Japan.
Why would you not want an SA rated helmet?
My personal helmet is the Bell Vortex TFA as shown below. Extremely comfortable, great visibility. The top air hose is great no matter which side you sit on.

No it isn't. This is mine:

The BR-1 side air or the M2-FA would be better choices for the money. The M4 Top Air has vents in the front that will allow dirt and dust in.
The only down side to the "Racer Series" from Bell is that they are Fiberglas/Kevlar instead of a Carbon /Kevlar, which is lighter weight. But still very good choices. Let me know if you need one of these or something else.

Pat, going to bug you with one more question. Which do you prefer, top air, or side air? Both the BR-1 and the M-4 are the same price, so cost is not an issue. It all comes down to which moves more air, or better yet, which moves more air into the right spots.

are you sure Impact helmets are made in the good old USA???
HJC helmets are made in Korea and they really are put together well.
Not all Simpson helmets are made the USA. The helmets I have a problem with are the ones comming out of China and there are quite a few.

I did a lot of research on similar helmet issues and ended up buying a Simpson with a side port from Parker Pumper. The main reason was that there customer service was way beyond any of other places and they where able to modify my helmet for a perfect fit with no extra charge and the top port was not very convenient for me since I am 6'2" and there is not that much head room in a 516. I have looked at the impact helmets and they look awesome. I read that the top air is really good at directing air right into the face shield so it is really good at keeping it from fogging it up. In the Impact catalog there is a section where they show you can choose a side inlet but I don't know if they offer it for all there helmets and how much they charge extra for something like that.

The BR-1 is new and I don't have any yet. I think it would be a better choice than the M4 since it doesn't have the front vents to allow dirt in.
Yes, the Standard Simpson Bandit and Voyager are made in China. I don't like it but the quality is still very good as I have painted many of these.
You can custom order any Simpson helmet and anything other than the afore mentioned two are made here in TX. They will add a side air to any of there line, for about $150 extra. The attached photo is one of our team owners custom made Bandit with a side air.

How do you get air flow with the bandit, It looks cool, but not very practical as a pumper helmet. It is also hard to get to seal from dust. The voyager and shark are my picks for a pumper.

I just bought the HJC ar-10 for the simple fact that it fit my fat head better than the other SA helmets. After seeing a M rated helmet and a SA rated helmet cut in half, and seeing the differance in thickness and contruction I will stay with a SA helmet from now on.

Actually, the with the skirt on the helmet the pumper systems will basically pressurize the helmet to keep dust out. It is very simple to add an eyeport seal to any helmet on the market.
I have many available, from thin foam, foam felt to the Kevlar seals as seen on NHRA helmets.
John said this Bandit performed better than the Shoei he had that is worn by many racers. Though he did like my Bell better.

I have a pyrotec helmet that I used with my formula vee. It doesn't have forced air. Is there a DIY kit to add air to a helmet like this?
