I just got my new Dirtsports mag and they brought back the Bronco project. The new shop working on it is called Speed Unlimited. Anyone know anything about this shop? The work on the truck that they showed in the magazine was absolutely amazing! That truck is going to be incredible when finished. Since I plan on building a Bronco, there were some great ideas I got from the article. Let's hear what you all think.

I don't know how they could consider it a "prerunner"! While it's cool to see all the state of the art goodies it's getting, i have to come back to reality and realize that 3/4's of the stuff on that bronco is stuff i could never afford, and most likely never need.

As a mechanical work of art...yup it is amazing!

A PreRunner is a purpose built vehicle to prerun a race course and provide a similar and capable vehicle platform as the race vehicle.

For most of us we build what we can and call it / use it as a prerunner. There is nothing wrong with that. but really really how can you not call it a prerunner.

Dirt Sports is once again pushing the envelope heading this project. Cant wait to see it doen and if you read this Marty let me know how we can help.

Hey Chop,

These guys are located in Paramount, California. Call and ask for Ruben or BJ. Ruben's the owner and BJ is the fabricator. (562) 529-7900

All,

Wellllllllllllll, the Bronco story is a long and colorful one. But, we went from doing a redo to a truly state-of-the-art piece. We felt the last project -- Project Elf -- was a good, grassroots project done Dirt Sports style. The Bronco is another issue...

Hope you all enjoy it. We are hoping to debut at Off-Road Expo.

I always thought a prerunner was any vehicle that you prerun a course with. You could prerun the course in a yellow taxi cab, or a 1980 toyota corolla.

WTF, I am not going to argue with you. Call it what you want, I could care less. Although I doubt you will get very far in your choice of prerunner

Wow! Easy Cheesy! I'm not arguing, i'm responding to a comment that you made, it's called a discussion. Have a great night, and a pleasant tomorrow! :)

The sketches look awesome. Are you guys building a new shell too?

baja619
July 12th, 2007, 17:02
Yup, the shell is stretched 12" instead of adding addittional sheetmetal to the cab

steveG
July 12th, 2007, 17:08
Are you extending the original or building a new shell?

baja619
July 12th, 2007, 17:42
For this we are extending the original.

But we have have considered making an "offroad version" which would be similar to a camper shell.

Are you removing the windows, stretching the windows, or extending the fiberglass in front of or behind the windows? I can't wait to see more of this thing!!!

All,

Glad to see this post. For the record, let me just say that the boys from both Speed Unlimited and Fiberwerx are absolutely knocking this Dirt Sports project out of the park..killer work and actually making real progress. It's been a pleasure working with them both after a year of wasting time with the dark side of the industry (ie, fabricators/vendor that talk smack on everyone else and then only produce excuses).

Just had to give the boys some props...

Best,
Marty

We are going to extend in front of and behind the the window, like a half in half.

We had the option to extend the glass, but I think this will look better and too much glass in an offroad vehicle is not a good thing.

Johnson, I've heard the completed Retro Bronco will appear in next month's Dirtsports Magazine. It is also going to make an appearance at the Off Road Expo in Pomona in October.

Yeah so its been done and off paper with tangible pieces, I am just not posting pics since it not being released till the expo.

It does look mean in person, and Im sure everyone will have their opinions but this body was built according to the specs and scope of the Retro Bronco Project.

The wheelbase was extended not any part of the steel body, although there is alot of custom sheet metal inside the cockpit.

Is the front clip going to be available for the public to buy or is this an exclusive thing?

We will have several options/variations available depending on any concerns with what the guys behind the project want.

All,

Not quite true. Yes, there is an update on the entire rear end of the Bronco (really trick!!) but the car is not completed...we are really pushing to make it to an unvieling at the Off-Road Expo...

I have decided to try to bring this thread back for the dead. I think it would be awesome since the Bronco is done now if Dirt Sports or anyone that was in volved would post the build pics of this from start to end. Especially because I am having truble finding good pictures of this work of art

Search for a thread of last year's Off Road Expo and the year before that and there are photos there. From what I have heard that truck is now some where in the midwest. Was sold off right after it was completed. Beautiful build that's for sure.
