Question: Our bronco has a std. old 8.8... we are ready to swap it out for a 9"... my question to those who may know this, What is the widest production 9"? We are looking to get one and are trying to keep it budget minded... Is an 9 out of an econoline van wider?? well any info will help, thank you for ur help...

I just did this swap. The van 9 is the widest. Also is the large bearing type, 31 spline, and equal length axles. It makes it like 1.5" or 2" wider per side. Brake lay out is the same and you can pull the e-brake cables off your 8.8 and use them on the 9 inch.

Widest production Ford 9":
'72 ford van 3/4 ton = 68" wide
"77 - "86 E150 = 69.25" wide, equal length axles, 31 spline, etc..

Thank you for your input fellas... got a nine from a 78 e-150 over labor day weekend at the willmington pick a part for $95 bucks compleet... droped the pumpkin.. installed 4.88 gears, locker and trussed the bottom and back of the housing>>> cant wait for the MIL!!!
