Tropical depression 11e has formed off mainland Mexico and is presently forecast to move NW and strengthen to hurricane strength south of Cabo, then proceed just offshore (to the W) past Cabo and Magdalena Bay. Potential significant problems for the B1000 course passing through this area (and perhaps even farther north, depending on the subsequent track and intensity)?

Hurricane season is just starting. Grab a board and head to lowers. The Southwest is gonna be awesome.....
Happens every year, only once in a while is it a big deal......
The bigger deal is the effect on the locals...Mulege was tore up....I only worry about the little towns and the people.

Last year's storms made it a real chore getting around the Loretto area. Its all part of Baja and it may get beat up again and we will find a pathway through it again. As said previously, its the people in those areas that take it the worst.

Ive been laughing since last weeks hurricane. I was wondering when the.... "the Baja 1000 course has to be changed...it rained.... baja is gone...under water!!!!" post was going to start. Every year its the same post. Someone should just archive this topic for every sept-nov.This may come as a shocker to people but, it rains in mexico even when we arnt paying attention. Not a big deal!! anyway I like mudd huh wayne?:D

We had a pit at race mile 795 between Loreto and San Javier for the last 1000. The road to it was crazy, it had also been "graded" and this was the course too! We drove it at night. There were spots with washouts on the edge I thought for sure would suck a tire down and over we would go.

Tropical Depression 11e has become Tropical Storm Henrietta. However, the predicted course, and especially the intensity, has changed drastically since yesterday. The course is now predicted to be farther offshore, and with the separation increasing as the storm moves NW-ward (i.e. it has a greater westward component than in yesterday's forecast). Moreover, winds are now predicted to only reach 70 kn, or approximately 1/4 the wind-associated forces predicted earlier.
Yesterday I thought this storm might be a special one as the west coast of Baja was within the "dangerous quadrant" as it moved upcoast, and the winds as that occurred would be at their maximum intensity approaching and moving along Baja. Since the forecast path paralleled the coast, but with the eye remaining over warm water, the storm could still feed on the latter as it moved along the coast (rather than running out of energy as when it moves over land). Hence the spatial extent of the passage could have been large.
As far as the surf goes, in yesterday's forecast, the waves on the wave-generating side of the storm would be blocked from S Cal breaks until/unless the storm moved past Pta Eugenia.

Kreger, . . You're lucky we didnt take your picture in the first Mud Hole and your luckier that the picture of you over the sdie was at night and you cant exactly see it.
If it rains, bring a wetsuit. I like racing in the rain - theres no dust!

NWS is forecasting TS "Henriette" to turn into a hurricane in about 12 hours. They just changed the forecast pattern within the past couple hours. She's doing a fish hook into the center of Baja. If anybody has people down there, contact them and advise them to monitor NWS.

As of 0200 hours, they're not officially calling her a hurricane. They are still discussing that this could turn into one. An Air Force Hurricane hunter aircraft is going to fly into her this afternoon.

clasic movie. got me pumped up for skydiving. the best is to hope for is a storm a week before the race, then all the teams that have the money to pre run for a month and other teams that dont pre run an even course, no advantage. a virgin track to all.

This is the most recent map. Forecasters are calling for up to 10 inches of rain in the hardest hit regions.

Jorge, take care of everyone down there. I am sorry I got home before the storm. There are so many that need help during the rains. Its a good reason for our trucks, and willingness to go out in the bad weather to help those that need. I am sure you were not out just picking up beer when you got the photos. Take care of all my freind. I wish I was there.
