You can run them as long as they are not taller or wider than the stock tires.

Tires are one of the few open things for them. They can not be wider or taller but you can go smaller if you want.

I have another question if we have the maxxis tires on the kart can we use the stock spare or does it have to be a maxxis

in the rule book of last year, when different tire manufactures werent alloud bla bla bla, they made that rule..

i have not seen them check for a matching spare tire, and have witnessed at every race a stock spare tire with atv tires on the floor.

Regardless of whether or not they check for a matching spare tire in Tech, and even if you have witnessed at every race a stock spare tire with atv tires on the floor, the rulebook contains the following information about Tires and Spares:

TKC12.5 – Spare Wheel & Tire – Trophy Karts must race with only one approved sized spare tire and wheel. This tire / wheel combination must match the existing 4 tire/wheels mounted to the Trophy Kart. No additional weights, susbstances or objects may be installed in or on the spare tire or spare tire mount. Spare tire tie down must remain stock.

TKC13 - Tires – tire size is mandated as 8 x 20. Tires must be pneumatic, tubeless and may not contain inner liners. Tires may not be foam filled. All vehicles must race with the spare tire attached and inflated
Tires may be of any manufacture and tread pattern.
Tire SLIME is allowed
** Certain events may mandate the tire manufacture **

To clear this up here is the exact rule from rule addendum 031007 posted on the MMR site. A new rule book with all the updates will be posted soon.

Tires may be of any manufacture and tread pattern.

A shorter tire may be used providing the mandated width and rim size are kept (e.g. 18x10x8)

Spare tires - you may run ATV tires on the ground and the stock TK tire as a spare. The spare cannot be smaller than the tires on the TK (aka no 6x6x4 tire posing as a spare to save weight).

Since this was the version I already had on file, I figured it was still the most recent and didn't realize it had been updated with the new version - 031007.
