In october i am going to be prerunning the Baja 1000 course down to Cabo San Lucas. I am riding a 2004 Yamaha YFZ 450 race quad. i would like to know what kind of spare parts one would bring down for prerunning.

Thank you very much for the help.

Another YFZ450!

No, but really - tires of course, tire plug kit, tools, tie rods, cables (throttle, clutch, etc), air filters, skid plate. For the race, bring twice as much as that!

Good Luck!

Take a whole extra quad if you can, I would also suggest:
-skid plates (front and rear)
-clutch and throttle cables
-air filters
-chain
-clutch and break lever
-I think you are running tireballs so just take 1 front and 1 rear
-tow strap
-oil, coolant, break fluid, spark plugs, etc.
-clutch kit
-all the tools you can pack into your truck. You never know what you might need.

Are you prerunning the whole course?

The entire course from start to finish. i am using a service called go baja ridin' and they are going to supply all chase trucks accomidations and the know how if something breaks.
i am running tire balls so flats hopefully wont be a big problem.
i am also thinking about taking a extra radiator as well. is that a good idea?

Sure, any spare parts you can take are good. Specially if you will be doing the whole course. You never now what will break. Make sure your tireballs are well lubricated cause you will be putting a lot of miles on them. I had a problem with my rear tireballs in last years baja 1000.

Same thing i was thinking .LOL. A craftsman socket set and some loctite.Good Luck and be safe...Chain, chain breaker sprocket spare nut and bolt kits are the best thing ever made...Get your spare throttle and clutch set up on the bike before you ever start..As for the race as many hard parts as you have i the garage and more..

Nick - Really you're better off with the more parts you can take with you! Just think of the common things that break .. Levers, a spare radiator would be a good idea...

What do you mean by that "Another YFZ". I will be sure to lubricate the tire balls well i know i have had problems in the past with that stuff before too.

You should also take some stickers down there. Steeeckers make wonders down in baja when you need something.
