I have have a 3rd member that i am going to have rebuilt. But it is not nodular.Is it way better to go with a nodular case.I will be putting about 450 hp through her.

I broke my stock case with 35" tires, 31spline, 6.0 gears and a tired old 160hp motor. If your careful to let off the gas in the air and stuff you "Might" be fine, but just get a strange s-case from quick performance it's $239.00 + shipping.

The best stock type Ford case (that is not a nodular iron version) is the one that has "C7" cast inside on the flat area just outside the carrier main cap. The versions you need to steer clear of is the one that has the letters "WAR" cast into it in the same area.
The WAR case has great ribbing, and looks quite strong, but it is not. The pilot bearing area is prone to cracking.

If you are going to run a stock case, the first upgrade you should make is Daytona pinion support. You can buy them in both nodular iron and aluminum, which ever suits your needs. The stock pinion supports break before the cases do. Most people look at there broken 3rd member and think the case broke first, but upon close examine the evidence usually shows the pinion support gave out, and then it cracked the case and broke it during the incident.

The next upgrade is a nodular case........The Mark Williams is great, as is the Strange, and even the Moser stuff works. We sell all these and even two more brands that work well, so there are several different choices.

Ford did have a case with the letter N cast into it. It was the original Nodular third member.

Most people think they came in trucks and look for them there. They actually cam in late 70s lincolns and station wagons. When ever you see those big old cars take a minute to check out the third member, you will eventually run into one.
