Have you guys seen this new tire technology yet? Can you imagine not ever getting a flat tire in the desert again? How nice would that be? Do you think they can adapt this concept to a off road tire? I would think they would need to put a side wall on it (to keep the rocks from lodging in there), make them bigger, and put a more aggressive tread design on them.

I remember reading about this a while ago and I think there were some issues with the spokes holding up...It would be nice to never have to deal with flats....think of the weight savings for the TT's and class one's, I would like to see them test them on a 16 for starters, then start utilizing them on the heavier vehicles, Its michelin so I would expect to see them on bike first then a test on a DAKAR car.

I don't see this working. Off road tires experience really hard hits and since these are made of such a flexible material you'll just break something instead of popping your tire. They could make them stiffer but then the contact patch would be smaller which is no good for an off road tire.

i remember seeing that on Future Car on discovery channel a few months ago. it looks like a great idea for on road racing becuase it has the ability to flex, but for off road i cannot see it happening quite yet, the technology needs to come a little further.

I'm thinking with major horsepower and loading and unloading of say a CL1 or TT it would self destruct within a few miles very cool idea though

The idea is good, but, will tire manufacturers take the chance of loosing $$$ because of tire sales going down?

if its anything like the mousse tube for motorcycles it wont work. when they get hot from excessive speed/long miles they get soft and feel flat.

Oh yea anyways, I think something like a solid foam rubberish tire would work better.

I think they'd flatten out and smash your brake rotors into the ground then rebound to normal shape. lol

Tire companies would love those things, the tread will wear just as fats as a regular tire, but they are more complicated and expensive, so although they'd lose out on money from single replacement tires after a puncture, they'd make more money in the long run.

The thing I don't like is the inability to air down, you're stuck at a given "pressure". With a regular tire I run at 45psi on the street, and then if I go to Pismo I'll air down to 15, sure you could just have softer "spokes" but then you have squishy tires with excessively large contact patches for the street.
