We had some problems that delayed the last couple issues of 4X4 BUILDER Magazine. Now we are back up and I am preparing the January issue. My question to you guys is this...
We did not run our coverage of the Baja 500 yet, so is January 2008 too late to run coverage of the 2007 Baja 500?
Would you guys like to see the coverage of the race no matter what issue it runs in or only if it is timely (like 2-3 months after the race)?
Let me know your opinions and you can help influence what we run in the magazine.
If you don't want to post you can also PM me.
Thanks,
Chris Tobin

I'm not sure I completely agree. But, maybe my attention span is too short! LOL! I think a special interest story would be fine , but IMO standard style race coverage of the 500 put out well after the 1000 has been run is kind of pointless. By January, most are looking forward to the up coming season, not what happened half way through last season.

Chris,
Hot VW's is alot like that, seems like they are 2-3 months behind on races, not to worry, we will still read them.

I would suggest that you save it until about a month before next years 500 and then run it. Sort of a pre-view of the up coming 500 ! Just my two cents !

The problem that magazines face is the instant or almost instant coverage on the internet. If the story is simply telling the results maybe it won't be that interesting running it late. But if you have a unique story to tell about the magazines experience in Baja then that would be great.

Granted, if it were just results I'd skip it altogether. I preran with Higman's team and he finiched 2nd in Class 10 so there is a good story to be told as well--especially since we Featured his "Croc" on the cover of the current issue of 4X4 BUILDER!:D
Also, I'd like to think that there is some very cool photography that will run in the article, letting the photo's speak thousands of words for me!
Thanks for the input guys, I am leaning toward trying to run it still.

Ill read it. I Also agree that having a unique story and or a preview of next years upcoming Baja would be unique making it interesting.
The more pictures the better!

Chris, "Run it" like thee OTHER Chris (Brown) or.. like Nike.. "Just do it" haha.
especially since its got such an awesome view point.. being a chaser, you have just as many stories, adrenaline pumping moments as the racers themselves (almost anyways)
still trying to figure out a Class 10 in a 4x4 mag though.. :P

Yes, that one is kinda tough on paper, but 4X4 BUILDER is the title of our only off-road magazine so we cover all off-road stuff in the mag rather than just 4WD stuff. Think about it we couldn't even cover TTs if we strictly stuck to the title!
I like to cover a broad range of the off-road scene in 4X4 BUILDER rather than just queing in on one aspect. I cover show trucks (2WD and 4WD), race and competition vehicles, event coverage ranging from CORR to SCORE with Rock Crawling and shows thrown in even Dakar efforts and RGs Hummer has been featured in the mag. I want to provide something for everyone, not just a few hardcore 4X4 guys... So don't get hung up on the title...
Thanks,

definately not hung up on the title.. awesome to see more exposure for off road racing in general and I'm sure I speak for most of us when I say "Thanks!!" for your efforts. 4X4 is a major part of off road racing from TT to class 11.. I mean, heck what the average finishing ratio 30-40%? somethings gotta bring all those broke down race vehicles back to home base!

The issue of 4X4 BUILDER with Will's Croc (November 2007) is back from the printer and will be on the newsstands on Oct. 2nd according to the schedule.
The Baja 500 coverage will go into the next issue.
I actually have run Baja 500 coverage with emphasis on the Diesel guys in the October 2007 issue of DIESEL BUILDER which went on sale Aug 26th and may be sold out by now but you can look for it and you might get lucky. It has a yellow and orange Hummer H3 on the cover and includes coverage of the 500 and features on a street VW Touareg, the chase VW Touaregs and the race Touaregs as well as RGs Monster Chevy chase trucks.
Check them out and tell me what you think!
