View Full Version : Old School Summer Bros Rear Hub

I am in the process of tearing apart the rear hub assembly on our new car (old school 5 car). It has the standard stub axle set-up with Summer Brothers Type 2 stub axles (1.33" dia. shaft), disk brakes, and an aluminum rotor hat/mounting plate. It looks like the aluminum rotor hat/mounting plate is in pretty bad shape and needs to be replaced.
Does anybody know if this piece is specific to Summer Bros or can I order it from other companies?
I would update it to microstubs or outboards, but I don't feel like changing the arms, axles, shocks (or valving) ect.
Thanks guys,
Erik Irvine

Jake -
The splined area has a lot of play on the passenger side of the car, and the surfaces where the castle nut & bearing ride are pretty hammered. I guess I could throw them on a lathe, but who knows how long the splines will last. I assembled it today and torqued it to about 220 ft. lbs. Seems good sitting in the shop, but who knows when I start beating it. We'll see how long it lasts, if it can last a desert season I will change out the rear hubs this summer.

Erik - Is the rotor hat and spline center one piece? If so you will probably have to use a Summers Bros part. Motor of the newer Stub Axle Type Disc Brake setups have the rotor mount machined into the hub and a press-in or bolt-in spline center. That means no rotor hat. I have a Summers Bros setup on my race car with the Type 1 stubs and it goes together just like yours. If your simply looking for a replacement brake setup without going to Micro's or midboards both CNC and GearOne make a setup for the Type 2 Stub axles.

Yeah the aluminum hub is one piece. The center spline section and wheel mounting surfaces are both a part of this one piece aluminum section. The brake rotor bolts to this, and I would guess is somewhat universal. I will check into CNC & Gear One, thanks Kevin.
