technical question

I have a Class 10, Raceco with a Bundersen front end, running M/T Baja pro 33x9.0x15 on all 4 corners, with a 2000cc Wiks VW (143hp) engine and a 4-speed mendeola topping out rpm’s at about 73mph and feeling like I need another gear.

I have been told we could get a taller 3rd and 4th gear to help out a bit. We currently have:

4.86 ring and pinion
1st – 3.11
2nd – 2.17
3rd – 1.71
4th – 1.50

I really like the current length of 1st and 2nd for the drag starts and silt beds. Do I need to change the ring and pinion and 3rd and 4th or just make 3rd and 4th a little taller? All information, insight and wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

R&P is right. 1st and 2nd are pretty good. Third could go a tick higher and 4th could go to 1.31.

You need to change out your four speed to a five this keeps your splits close and overdrive.My old class 10 with a 220 horse honda would do 106 at 8500 rpm with a fortin five speed.
