57" from trans. to 3rd member.
1piece or carrier, not a big fan of 2 piece, but better ground clearance,
Comments / experience - suggestions?
Thanks.

Rich,
Are you guys running a fixed output off the trans? This is extremely important for keeping the carrier bearings and output shafts alive. They are a must on all applications. The number i have got is 60" maximum for a 1 piece driveshaft. We run a 2 piece on our new truck and it has worked great so far. No carrier bearing problems yet. We have 1/4" of total plunge with our 4 link.
A 1 piece does keep things simple! Call up a local driveline guy and see what he has to say. We ran a 1 piece on our long bed, single cab and had no issues other then the output slip on the trans. With a fixed output, I am confident to say we wouldn't of had issues.

Jon, fixed.
Yeah, we are at a decision point, a friend did the 2 piece diagram, just not sure on the 1 or 2 piece....
Didn't you guys run powder puff? hows truck working?

Yep. Truck ran great. My mom ran out of gas 50 miles in. We filled the truck with 30 gallons before the race.. think someone siphoned gas the night before? Less then 2 miles/gallon is fishy. Truck is dialed and really moves. We'll be racing MORE Toys For Tots 12/1 and then Laughlin. We're really happy with it.

Rich,
If you run the two-piece, the front drive shaft should leave the trans with ZERO angle (angle "A" = straight line). Then the pinion angle , relative to the ground, should be the same as the front shaft/output shaft (parallel to it) at ride height.
If you run the one piece, the lower left diagram is correct.
In both cases a leaf spring truck should have a degree or two pre-load on the pinion to account for axle wrap under load (down in front).

With the angles I see -It would be best to put a custom c/v in the middle - Make the first driveline angle 2 degree's lower then the motor slope and roll the pinion to match the rear driveline angle (2 degree's down) -Good luck- If you run it the way I see 20 Degree's you will have nasty vibs and most surly eat the carrier brg for lunch-Jess

thanks ALL...
actually...just looking for some driveline discussion.
we have had bad experiences with carrier bearings in the past...but...like the clearance of the 2 piece, and can probably do a better job than past attempts at 2 piece
We are ready to build driveline and test... :D Fun stuff.

I'like the 1 piece ...less parts to fail....

Thanks to Wade @ Driveline Unlimited in Lake Forest. He came out, brought samples of DL set ups, took measurements and then built and delivered a "tacked" up driveline the next day...:D . We installed and clycled it, shortened it, now back to Driveline Unlimited for welding / balancing.
Also thanks to TL Tony for driving up and going through the DL set up geometry!
Can't wait to race this money pit (er ahm 1450 truck) again...;)

So what did you end up going with 1 or 2 piece?
