Check out BMW's answer to the rest of the 450's out there. It will be street legal, I'm sure it will cost a fortune, but it sure is pretty.

The new 450 will be introduced as a street legal sport enduro machine later in 2008. It will be fuel injected and will weigh a few kilos less than its European and Japanese competitors.

Looks nice, I wonder how it will compete against the other 450s.

Simple answer to your question: No
Looks nice but I doubt that it will have the performance of the KTM street legal bikes

Rear Suspension looks really nice... i am sure it will ride well for a desert bike with that Ohlins shock and that cool looking linkage system they have going on back there...
i would buy one just to try it out, gut this is only becuase i have owned many different BMWs and have been happy with all of them

That looks to be linkless, no? Just a pair of mounts to have more angle on the shock.

The engine layout looks a little too exposed for my liking...imagine what a cracked case half would cost...

No front downtube for the frame leaves the motor VERY exposed to all sorts of things. I'll take a 450x to Arizona for the plate. Another thing I don't care for is the FLAT seat on top. Then parts costs....OUCH. It is a very pretty piece though, alot of cool ideas there.

Yup, just like the KTM. Where's the kickstarter on the Beemer?

i wouldn't mind getting one if parts were cheap and the bike was under 8 grand .... then it would come to mind getting one... but we shall see when the time comes next year when i go purchase a new bike... will the reliable xr650 win over the bmw time will only tell

Sorry man but that bike doesn't look like it's meant to compete against the 650. Apples to oranges...
There's some pretty gnarly pics of a BMW X-challenge with a broken frame that isn't being covered by BMW's 3 year warranty on thumpertalk. Owner says he was just running some washes and all of a sudden couldn't reach the shifter. Casual riding, no jumping or rock bashing... Something to consider, doesn't sound like they are open to the warranty. A

Yep it's for the fuel injection, heck my Dakar even had cat on it.
As for the frame issues that sucks, I never had any troubles with factory repair (only had one, short that kills the gauges and directionals ) Since my Dakar went to the wrecking yard I am looking at the 450. Not sure between it and the KTM, no real decision untill after my wedding anyway.
If Honda made a CA leagal water pumper they would make a freaking fortune but they don't.
