Isnt there a law stating that if your car is over 30 years old it doesnt have to be smog'ed. I was wondering because i want to go strait pipe on my 304 jeep. O yeah if any body has a link to where i can find some headers for an AMC 304 that would be great.

Old. They did away with it. Has to be 73 and older to not have to smog.

75 and older now, 76 and newer still need smog. We had a rolling exemption for a few years but Schwarzenegger stopped it.

Smog exemption still wouldn't get you around VC27150 which requires an "adequate" muffler.

Yea but to fight that you just video tape the same police not pulling over hot rods. You can only enforce a law if you equally enforce it.

The law states that you are no longer required to have the annual test. The vehicle must keep all smog equipment that is originally equipped.
In other words, you can do anything you want to it but if a CHP wants , he can make you get a smog test.To proove you have not altered the emmisions equipment. The vehicle must get tested when transfering ownership too.

smog laws are only getting worse. they are now gonna start testing the evap systems on cars for leaks. those trucks with cells in em are gonna be hard to get passed now since the techs will be checking the systems more. most older cars will likely fail this test as well.

They are talking about smogging green sticker vehicles too... sand rails, prerunners, etc. Register it out of state or register it in CA where the SMOG nazi's aren't as strict.

Aloha

That'd be ridiculous!

the evap systems testing is pretty lame too.

These smog laws are getting way out of hand. I mean stick something in the exhaust and if it passes that should be it. They are finding every way possible to pull the most money out of our pockets in this state.

Or Texas. :D

No smog for diesels or for old (>=25) vehicles. Cheaper living than CA.

What is the funniest thing I think is that the Marine Corps bases in California require out of state cars to get smoged. So my truck is perfectly good and street legal in Az and Ca but since these eco guys have got such a strangle hold on the military I have to smog my truck to get base stickers. Here is the funniest thing of it all. The base can not require me to do it. They will just give me temp(paper) pass instead of window stickers. Why would you have a rule that you could not enforce? And this is only bases in California, if I go to say Yuma, Az no smog required for that base.

it all really boils down to money. ca wants more of it so they create these requirments to gain more. the latest carb requirments for sandrails is rediculous, thanks to those cheap chinease buggies that joyner imported. i was a licensed smog tech but let it expire since i wasnt working in the field anymore. i may renew it but a few of my buddies in the industry tell me the new test is very difficult. guess i'll have to study, lol.

the whole carb thing for rails is the same custom bike builders faced a couple years ago (jessie james comes to mind) once you have a package that meets the requirments then all is good, theres no annual testing (at least now). just look at the bar's website and you will find alot of info about future plans for emissions in ca.

oh and the states requirment for service personal stationed here is just stupid. all active armed forces personel should be exempt in my opinion.
